Integration of Financial and ESG Performance Indicators to Measure and Evaluate Egyptian Insurance Companies Performance
This study aims to evaluate the performance of Egyptian insurance companies through the integration of financial and non-financial performance indicators through the dimensions of sustainable development as a mediator variable. The study relied on Allianz Egypt property and liability insurance company data from 2012 to 2021, and the Monte Carlo simulation method was used based on the Mathcad program. This study used structural Equations Modeling via AMOS program to extract the direct and indirect effect through path analysis. The results showed that each environmental dimension, social dimension, and governance dimension plays a mediator role in the relationship between solvency, liquidity, credit, activity, underwriting profitability, and both market share and investment profitability. Our research contributes to the literature of achieving sustainable development in the insurance sector, to keep pace with global developments. This paper presents evidence of the relationship between integrating ESG indicators into insurance companies’ performance and achieving an additional competitive advantage
The Financial Recovery of Region From Economic Disruptions and Resiliency of Real Estate — Construction Sector: A Case Study of Southeast Texas Economy and Real Property Values
This study examines the financial recovery of Southeast Texas post-economic disruptions, particularly focusing on the real estate-construction sector's resilience, a key economic driver in the region. It analyzes macroeconomic indicators, emphasizing the sector's role in the region's recovery. The research highlights risk management as crucial for financial resilience in real estate-construction. Three key innovative aspects include: (1) Southeast Texas historically relies on real estate-construction for economic growth, with financial stability linked to major industries. (2) Utilizing the Participatory Analysis of Risk Management (PARM) methodology, focusing on the region's real estate-construction sector. (3) Enhancing PARM results through financial valuation of residential and industrial/commercial properties in Southeast Texas, enabling longitudinal analysis and a deeper understanding of the region's financial stability and resilience. This study underscores the importance of studying the real estate-construction sector for the region's economic well-being post-disruptions
What Drives Renewable Energy Consumption in Asia
In more recent years Asia has had the highest level of investment in renewables and the highest level of electricity generation from renewable sources. This paper analyzes the determinants of renewable energy consumption in Asia and the Pacific from 1996 to 2018. It explores the major challenges this region has faced in moving towards a more environmentally friendly generation and use of energy. We find that the renewable electricity output, GDP per capita, merchandise trade, the value added of the manufacturing sector and the income share held by the poorest population boost renewable electricity consumption. On the other hand, energy use per capita, access to electricity, energy imports, broad FDI, population growth and the income share held by the richest population lower consumption of electricity from renewable sources. Trade openness and being an island do not seem to have a statistically significant impact in our sample over the observed period
Trade-In Programs in the Fashion Industry: A Win-Win Sustainability Strategy for Consumers and Brands
The fashion industry is renowned for its negative impact on the environment. To mitigate the adverse effect, some companies have recently adopted the circular economy model, which introduces used clothes in good condition back into the cycle through trade-in programs. Giving used garments a second life helps reduce the company’s carbon footprint and waste. It also provides consumers with an affordable and sustainable option, which is consistent with the growing trend of eco-conscious consumerism. In this study, we aim to explore consumers’ perceptions of trade-in programs in the fashion industry. We also examine how companies can leverage these programs as a powerful strategic tool to build brand trust and brand affect among younger generations (such as Gen Z and Millennials). This research draws upon different literature streams on signaling theory, brand trust, and brand affect. Our findings hold significant value for managers who wish to create strategically effective trade-in programs as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives
Decision Making in an Academic Department of Medicine: The Role of a Management Control System
Academic Departments of Medicine have several challenges in managing resources, meeting academic goals and clinical demands. In this paper, we describe a management control system installed in 2014: the Strategic Plan, a Balanced Scorecard reflecting clinical research and educational performance, Annual feedback and review by Departmental and Divisional Chairs, and Improvement Plans.
This system over 8 years resulted in a reduction in 30-day re-admissions of 14%, a decline in length of stay of 0.55 days, and reduced absolute in-hospital mortality of nearly 2%. Clinical revenue increased 42% from 2016 to 2022 largely due to increased ambulatory and procedural volumes. Teaching time and ratings were unaffected by the installation of this system. Return on investment for newly hired researchers and scientists was 67.5% with a 12.7% increase in peer-reviewed funding. We conclude that the Decision Management Control System was feasible to create and allowed capable monitoring of performance and informed decision-making. Major metrics improved after its implementation
Eco-Design in Products and Services of SMEs: Motivation and Results
This research study examines the direct influence of customer preference and the potential moderating influence of laws and green purchasing on eco-design of products/services in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Also studied is the relationship between these variables and environmental and economic performance in SMEs. The analysis uses theoretical underpinning of stakeholder and neo-institutional theories, and survey data collected from a sample of SMEs. Regression path analysis is applied, bootstrapped with .95 CI (Bias Corrected and Accelerated) and 2,000 samples on all regressions. Significant relationships were found between customer preference and eco-design, moderated by impact of laws, and between eco-design and environmental and economic performance. Green purchasing was found to have no moderating effect on adoption of eco-design. Managerial implications are indicated and discussed
Removing Barriers to Degree Completion: The Dennis-Montagnino TEAMS Model for Student-Centered Transfer Credit
This paper presents the development of a comprehensive framework from which to engage with the process of college transfer credit. The Dennis-Montagnino Transparency, Empowerment, Attainability, Mentorship, and Sustainability (TEAMS) Model provides guidelines for the development of clear and accessible policy that serves to empower students and institutions alike. Further, the model outlines effective practices for improving the attainability of credit through streamlined and engaging practices, such as mentorship. Sustainability is discussed in the context of relevant innovations in the higher education landscape. Future directions, including the design and implementation of a pilot are discussed
The Degree of Practicing the Standards of the International Society for Technology in Education by Faculty Members in Jordanian and Palestinian Universities
The goal of this study was to evaluate how closely Jordanian and Palestinian university professors follow the recommendations of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). Researchers analyzed a population of all academic staff members teaching at private or public universities in Jordan and Palestine using a descriptive-analytical methodology. A sample of 358 persons was chosen. The questionnaire was distributed and assessed the degree to which faculty members in Jordanian and Palestinian universities adhere to the ISTE requirements. It was found that the degree of adherence to the ISTE standards by faculty members in Jordanian and Palestinian universities was very large. However, it was found that there were no statistically significant differences at the level (α≤0.05) in the degree of adherence to the ISTE standards by faculty members in Jordanian and Palestinian universities according to the variables (country and type university). the study identified a number of recommendations for enhancing Palestinian universities, including scholars, professors, and administrators, complies with the standards established by the International Society of Technology. The report also suggests using technology into the teaching and learning process more
