Advances in digital technology have driven the transformation of assessment systems in education, including in the Islamic Education Study Program at the Universitas Islam Sumatera Utara. The manual essay assessment process is often considered inefficient, time-consuming, and prone to subjectivity on the part of assessors. This study aims to develop a Digital Automated Short Essay Scoring Assessment Model designed to enhance the effectiveness, speed, and objectivity of essay assessment for students. This study employs a research and development approach with a four-stage model, namely the definition stage, design stage, development stage, and dissemination stage, with a focus on the first three stages. Research data were collected through interviews, observations, document reviews, digital-based essay tests, and user satisfaction questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative and quantitative descriptive approaches. The results of the study indicate that the Automated Short Essay Scoring Digital Assessment Model is valid according to experts, feasible for use, and capable of improving the efficiency of the assessment process and student motivation. This model has positive implications by supporting adaptive learning, facilitating instructors in providing quick, accurate, and structured feedback, and encouraging improved quality of academic interaction between instructors and students

The development of the digital age and globalization has posed serious challenges to the character building of the younger generation, particularly in terms of weakening independence, self-regulation, and spiritual resilience. Cognitive-oriented education is considered incapable of responding to the crisis of dependency, instant culture, and the increasing degradation of values. This study aims to reconstruct the concept of independent character education according to the thoughts of Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah and analyze its relevance in the context of contemporary Islamic education. This study uses a qualitative approach with a figure-based study type based on library research. Data were obtained from the primary works of Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah and relevant secondary literature, then analyzed using thematic content analysis techniques. The results show that, according to Ibn Qayyim, independent character education is built holistically through gradual education, exemplary behavior, habituation, simplicity of life, utilization of time, and spiritual control through muhasabah, with tauhid and tazkiyatun nafs as the main foundations. Independence is understood as the freedom of the soul from worldly dependence and lust. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of integrating spiritual values into Islamic character education so that the formation of students' independence is transformative, sustainable, and relevant to the challenges of modern education

The main context of this study arises from the low quality of Islamic Religious Education learning in schools, which is caused by the suboptimal use of digital technology among teachers. Limited digital competence, a lack of innovative learning media, and weak professional collaboration have resulted in Islamic Religious Education learning that remains conventional and less responsive to students’ needs. This study aims to analyze strategies for strengthening the quality of Islamic Religious Education through digital-based initiatives facilitated by the Teacher Working Group in West Pontianak. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observations, and document analysis involving twelve informants, including Islamic Religious Education teachers, instructors, group administrators, and supervisors. The findings indicate that quality strengthening is carried out through needs-based planning, interactive digital training, continuous mentoring, and collaborative professional learning communities. The novelty of this research lies in its focus on the Teacher Working Group as a center of digital transformation for Islamic Religious Education. The implication of this study is the need to expand this strategic model to enhance digital competence among Islamic Religious Education teachers

The revitalization of Quran-based Islamic education has become an urgent need in facing the moral crisis and spiritual challenges of the current generation. Islamic education is not merely about transferring knowledge but also about shaping noble character and a personality oriented toward divine values. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Surah an-Nahl verse 125 as a teaching method at the Darul Hikmah Islamic Boarding School in Bima City. This verse contains educational principles through the approaches of hikmah (wisdom), mau'izhah hasanah (good advice), and jidal billati hiya ahsan (wise dialogue), which can be used as pedagogical guidelines in shaping the character of students. This study uses a qualitative approach with observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of learning activities. The results indicate that the values of Qur’an surah an-Nahl verse 125 have been internalized in the educational process, evident from teaching practices that emphasize the strengthening of morals, tolerance, communication ethics, and balanced religious awareness. The implications of these findings affirm that a Qur'an-based approach can be effectively applied in the context of pesantren education. This revitalization encourages the development of teaching methods that address cognitive, affective, and spiritual dimensions in an integrated manner

The challenges of modernity have eroded spiritual values in Islamic education, so a classroom management strategy is needed that balances academic achievement and religious character building. This research examines religious classroom management innovations in improving the quality of student learning at Madrasah Aliyah Swasta Tarbiyah Islamiyah. The focus is on the school's innovative strategies in creating a religious learning atmosphere, conducive, and supportive of students' character and academic development. The research method uses a phenomenological qualitative approach with observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The results show that spiritual-based classroom management through the integration of Islamic values, worship habits, and strengthening the spiritual relationship between teachers and students can create a positive and meaningful learning environment. This strategy has an impact on improving discipline, learning motivation, and academic achievement. The findings corroborate Vygotsky's social constructivism theory that emphasizes the importance of social and cultural interactions in learning, as well as Islamic education theory that places spirituality at the core of forming a whole person

The lack of research on the intellectual heritage of Nusantara scholars has resulted in limited academic recognition of local contributions to the development of Islamic creed education. One significant figure who has not been extensively studied is Shaykh Abdul Halim Hasan, particularly his Tafsir Al-Qur’anul Karim, which contains values of tawhid. This study aims to examine the concepts of tauhid rububiyyah, uluhiyyah, and asma’ wa sifat in his tafsir and their implications for contemporary Islamic education. The method used is qualitative with a library research approach, and the analysis is conducted thematically and contextually. The results of the study indicate that Shaykh Abdul Halim's interpretation emphasizes the strengthening of faith, character building, and the instillation of moral and spiritual values based on tauhid. Each dimension of tauhid explained has direct relevance to contemporary Islamic education strategies. The implications of this study highlight the importance of integrating tauhid values into the curriculum of akidah education, and utilizing the works of local scholars as references in developing contextual, transformative, and value-based learning

Content Analysis of Responsibility Values in Islamic Religious Education Textbooks for Elementary Students

Character education at the elementary school level plays a strategic role in shaping students’ moral awareness and attitudes, particularly the value of responsibility as a foundation of ethical behavior in Islam. However, empirical studies examining how the value of responsibility is represented in Islamic Religious Education textbooks remain limited. This study aims to systematically analyze the representation and alignment of responsibility values in elementary school Islamic Religious Education textbooks. Employing a qualitative approach with a content analysis design, this study examines textbooks for Grades 1, 2, and 3 used in the national curriculum. Data were analyzed through coding and categorization of responsibility values into personal, social, and ecological dimensions. The findings reveal that responsibility values are predominantly represented through personal and social dimensions, particularly in the form of habituation of religious practices, discipline, cleanliness, care for others, and role modeling of Islamic figures, while the ecological dimension of responsibility remains limited and unevenly distributed across grade levels. These findings indicate that textbooks function as important instruments for character formation but require stronger reflective approaches and a more balanced integration of responsibility dimensions. The implications of this study are relevant for curriculum development, textbook writing, and instructional practices in Islamic Religious Education that are more holistic and contextual

Analysis of Holistic Evaluation Model Implementation in the Islamic Education Curriculum at Islamic Higher Education Institutions

This research departs from the problem of the less than optimal application of a comprehensive evaluation model in measuring the success of the Islamic education curriculum in Islamic universities. The existing evaluation still focuses on academic achievement, while the moral, spiritual, and character building aspects of students have not been adequately assessed. This condition causes the goal of holistic Islamic education has not been achieved as a whole. This research was conducted in three universities, namely STAI Al-Hikmah Medan, STAI Al-Hikmah Tebing Tinggi, and STIT Al-Washliyah Binjai, with the aim of analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the implementation of the CIPP holistic evaluation model in each dimension—Context, Input, Process, and Product. The results showed that synergy between dimensions is the key to successful implementation of this model. When the context and input are strengthened and the learning process runs effectively, the educational outcomes are not only academically superior, but also shape the character and spirituality of students according to Islamic values. The implications of this research emphasize the need to develop an evaluation system that is oriented towards the balance between intellectual achievement and the formation of moral-spiritual values, so that Islamic universities are able to produce graduates with integrity, ethics, and contribute positively to society.
