    Get PDF

    Get PDF

    Get PDF
Seasonal variations of selected heavy metals in the fresh water prawn Macrobrachium vollenhovenii from River-Nun was investigated. This was done in order to gauge the amount of heavy metals accumulated in the prawn in order to address safety concerns about the consumption of prawn from this river system and establish the health status of the river body. Triplicate sub surface water samples were collected from three (3) sampling points from the water body once monthly for twelve (12) months. Also, prawn samples were collected monthly from three (3) fish landing points in the river catchment area for 12 months. Prawn samples were identified using standard keys. Water and Prawn samples were analyzed for the heavy metals lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Mercury (Hg), Chromium (Cr) and Zinc (Zn) using standard techniques. Means and standard deviations for all metal characteristics in water and prawn were calculated. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was employed to measure for similarities and variability in heavy metal characteristics in prawn and water for the river system. Turkey HSD Post HOC test was employed to separate means where variability occurred. This was done at the 95% confidence limit (P=0.05). Student T-test was also employed to check for variability between seasons in the measured parameters. This was aided by the use of the SPSS® statistical tool kit. Result of the study indicate that wet season values of the heavy metals in water were greater than values obtain in the dry season. Except for the metals Hg and Zn, all heavy metal characteristics of the river are consistently higher than the recommended permissible value for heavy metals in water. Bioaccumulation factor (BAF) was higher that the threshold value (BAF>1) for all metals. Based on the findings, the study concludes that the consumption of the studied prawn species is contaminated with elevated levels of toxic metals which is associated with higher degree of potential health risks

Technical Analysis of Government Website Takeovers by Online Gambling Sites in Indonesia

    Get PDF
This research explores a pressing intersection between cybersecurity and public governance: the systematic hijacking of Indonesian government websites (.go.id domains) by online gambling actors. At the heart of the problem lie well-known yet persistently unaddressed vulnerabilities—SQL Injection, Cross-Site Scripting (XSS), outdated content management systems, and weak input validation—all of which enable attackers to deface official pages, implant backdoors, and redirect citizens to illicit platforms. This study proposes a twofold solution: technical hardening through automated vulnerability scans and patch management, and regulatory strengthening via targeted reform of Indonesia’s cyber law framework, particularly the Undang-Undang Informasi dan Transaksi Elektronik (UU ITE). Methodologically, the paper employs a triadic framework—combining real-world case study analysis, legal evaluation, and scholarly synthesis—to interrogate both the technological vectors of attack and the regulatory inertia that follows. Case examples, such as the 2022 defacement of the Jawa Timur website and the 2023 SQL breach of a ministry portal, illustrate both the ease of compromise and the inadequacy of state responses. The literature supports these findings: Albalawi et al. (2022) emphasise the technical detectability of defacement, while Djarawula et al. (2023) and Setiawati et al. (2022) point to legislative gaps that online criminals exploit with relative impunity. The study’s contribution lies in articulating an integrated model for national cyber resilience, bridging technical diagnostics with legal strategy. It concludes with a set of practical recommendations—ranging from near-term vulnerability audits and IT training to long-term legal reform and international collaboration—intended not only to protect Indonesia’s digital assets but also to offer a case study of wider relevance for states confronting similar threats in the evolving cyber landscape

English proficiency is a highly sought-after skill in today’s globalized world. This qualitative research explores the lived experiences and influence of pop culture on English language learning among tertiary-level students in state universities in Region 7, Cebu. Employing a phenomenological approach, an interview guide consisting of eight questions facilitated the inquiry process, and Colaizzi’s method of data analysis was used to interpret the experiences of learners. Findings revealed three key themes: (1) Sustained Exposure to Pop Culture Influences Language Skills Over Time, with sub-themes highlighting the development of macro skills and enhanced linguistic competence; (2) Variability of Students’ Experiences, underscoring diverse learner perspectives; and (3) Setbacks, with its sub-themes identifying cultural displacement and minimal improvement in speaking skills. The study recommends integrating pop culture into the curriculum through targeted lesson plans and assessments that align with students’ interest. This integration can enhance language skills, shape beliefs and attitudes, and foster cultural awareness, addressing existing learning gaps and promoting more meaningful engagement in English language learning

Students’ experiences in college vary widely, shaped by the complex balance between academic responsibilities and extracurricular involvement. Among these, active participation in campus organizations often emerges as a transformative component of students’ academic journeys. It provides opportunities for self-expression, leadership development, peer engagement, and personal growth. This phenomenological study aims to explore the lived experiences of college students who are actively involved in school organizations, focusing on how this involvement affects their academic performance, leadership skills, emotional well-being, and overall productivity. The study investigates students’ perceptions, motivations, and challenges to present a holistic understanding of organizational participation in the college setting. Using in-depth interviews with purposively selected participants from a state university, the research reveals that organizational involvement contributes significantly to students’ holistic development. Participants reported improved academic discipline, enhanced communication and leadership abilities, stronger social relationships, and emotional resilience. However, challenges such as over-commitment, time management issues, and academic stress were also prominent, often affecting students’ ability to balance responsibilities effectively. This study is grounded in the goals of national and global development frameworks such as Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), as well as AMBisyon Natin 2040. Findings emphasize the need for institutional support to maximize the benefits of student organization involvement while minimizing potential drawbacks. Ultimately, the study recommends promoting sustainable, inclusive student programs that foster leadership, academic excellence, and personal empowerment

    Get PDF

Assessing the Role of Mangrove Vegetation Structure in Shaping Potamids Gastropod (Telescopium sp.) Distribution

    Get PDF
Mangrove ecosystems have been proven to have a rich diversity of gastropods in coastal areas [1, 2]. They have a wide variety of gastropod families, such as Potamididae, Ellobiidae, Neritidae, and Assimineidae. In conjunction with mangrove trees, gastropods play a particularly important role in nutrient cycling within the mangrove ecosystem [10]. Besides playing a significant ecological role in the decomposition of organic matter and nutrient cycling within the mangrove floor, its presence also serves as a bioindicator of mangrove ecosystem health, making it a valuable species for monitoring environmental changes and assessing the success of conservation and restoration efforts. In this study, we aim to assess the current status of T.telescopium populations in relation to mangrove cover canopy, with a focus on understanding how habitat alteration affects their abundance, distribution, and ecological function. The results demonstrate consistently high canopy coverage in Teluk Awur Bay, with average values ranging from 71.952% to 78.966%, categorizing all stations under the “High” canopy cover class as defined by the Ministry of Environment standard. The total number of individuals recorded across four stations (St 1, 2, 3, and 5) is 191 individuals, with the highest abundance at Station 2 (65 individuals) and the lowest at Station 5 (29 individuals). The relatively high abundance of T. telescopium supports the interpretation of a healthy mangrove environment. Keywords—Mangrove, Canopy cover, Gastropods, Telescopium telescopium,
