Investigating the Acclimatization to Light and Water Stress in Three Strains of Arabidopsis thaliana
No full textThe transition from vegetative to reproductive growth represents a crucial change in a plant's lifecycle and many plants have evolved various endogenous mechanisms for interpreting environmental input in order to initiate this transition optimally. In this experiment three different strains of Arabidopsis thaliana were grown under treatments of high and low light intensity and water availability. A commonly used wild type strain, Columbia (Columbia, Missouri, United States, Col-0), a North African ecotype, Martuba (Martuba, Libya, Mt-1), and a European ecotype, Basel (Basel, Switzerland, Bs-5) were monitored over six weeks for changes in rosette diameter, rosette leaf number, and appearance of inflorescence. We hypothesize that Mt-1, due to its origin from an equatorial climate; will be better equipped to deal with high light and low water conditions
QKDP's comparison based upon quantum cryptography rules
No full textQuantum key distribution (QKD) is the future of the cryptography world. The QKD was invented to increase the security rate when exchanging a private key. Since 1984, several experimental attempts to design protocols have been developed based upon the rule of physics. These QKD protocols were represented by different algorithms with limited ability to stand up against quantum attacks. This paper evaluates the most functional QKD protocols in the cryptography field and explains every QKD protocol as well illustrates the features that were utilized in each protocol

No full textSucrose, a plant sugar, is one of the main products of photosynthesis as it helps to promote floral transition in many plant species. Media with sucrose can also be used to grow plants for research. High concentrations of sucrose will cause an increase in the number of leaves at the time of flowering in the Arabidopsis thaliana plant. Sucrose is transported from the leaves via the phloem in order to provide the rest of the plant with carbon and energy for growth and storage product synthesis. In nature, plants and fungi can compete directly for sucrose and other soil nutrients. It is hypothesized that an increase in fungal growth will result from plating Arabidopsis thaliana seeds on MS agar with added Sucrose

Copper Spot Prices and Stock Market Volatility
No full textHave you ever wondered if you could reduce your exposure to risk before it is too late? For decades individuals and scholars have been stumped trying to determine a key indicator for predicting stock market volatility. In this study the daily closing prices for the copper spot market were used to see if it has historically led the S&P 500. By using technical analysis techniques on a 5, 10, and 15 year chart of the copper spot market and the S&P 500 solid conclusions were able to come to light. Sixty six percent of the time over the past 15 years the spot market for copper has led the S&P 500. Key trends were also identified to foretell that the S&P 500 might experience a market correction in the near future while also giving us a price floor for copper prices. These are strong indicators, which if followed, could allow an organization to improve their bottom line and/or give them the potential to make a profit from future market fluctuations

No full textIn 2013, the University of Bridgeport (UB) in the United States (U.S.) and the Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST) in People’s Republic of China (China) agreed on an undergraduate collaborative program in electrical engineering. Students admitted by Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) of WUST will study in China for 2 years, then students can be transferred to the same program of UB in the U.S. for the remaining academic requirements at UB. Upon the completion of all graduation requirements at UB, students will receive a Bachelor of Science in EE from UB. Students who stay all four years at WUST or transferred to UB after two years, will be granted a Certificate of Graduation and a Bachelor’s degree from WUST if they are subject to satisfactory completion of the program
