    Power Analysis and Conditional Expectation of CMOS Sensors

    Faculty Research Day 2018: Doctoral Student Poster 3rd PlaceOur research currently focusing on image sensors predominantly the sensors implemented using CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) technology. These sensors designated as CMOS sensors which were introduced after CCD (Charge-coupled Devices) sensors since CCDs having some drawbacks in terms of its power and making cost compared to CMOS sensors. The most prominent feature of the CMOS sensors is that they can work at low voltage. CMOS sensors need only one supply voltage but CCDs require three to four which makes the cost of the CMOS sensor very low compared to CCD. In this context we concentrated on power consumption of CMOS sensors and corresponding regression analysis applied to obtain the linearity between the input voltage and the power consumed by the sensor in different technical environments. Further research includes the testing of these sensors in terms of their response with respect to the input voltage levels, temperature effects, noise and the conditional expectation among them. Along with that we are computing the parameters in order to characterize the sensor in according with the physical and the logical effects

    Eye exam can be as efficacious as physical one in determining health concerns. Retina screening can be the very first clue to detecting a variety of hidden health issues including pre-diabetes and diabetes. Through the process of clinical diagnosis and prognosis; ophthalmologists rely heavily on the binary segmented version of retina fundus image; where the accuracy of segmented vessels, optic disc and abnormal lesions extremely affects the diagnosis accuracy which in turn affect the subsequent clinical treatment steps. This thesis proposes an automated retinal fundus image segmentation system composed of three segmentation subsystems follow same core segmentation algorithm. Despite of broad difference in features and characteristics; retinal vessels, optic disc and exudate lesions are extracted by each subsystem without the need for texture analysis or synthesis. For sake of compact diagnosis and complete clinical insight, our proposed system can detect these anatomical structures in one session with high accuracy even in pathological retina images. The proposed system uses a robust hybrid segmentation algorithm combines adaptive fuzzy thresholding and mathematical morphology. The proposed system is validated using four benchmark datasets: DRIVE and STARE (vessels), DRISHTI-GS (optic disc), and DIARETDB1 (exudates lesions). Competitive segmentation performance is achieved, outperforming a variety of up-to-date systems and demonstrating the capacity to deal with other heterogenous anatomical structures

    Molecule dynamics (MD) simulation is a powerful computational tool to study the interaction between two or more molecules. In this poster, we present the interaction of carbon nanotubes (CNT) with surfactant protein B (SPB). SPB is a member of pulmonary surfactant protein family, which contributes to maintain alveolar surface tension. The lack of pulmonary surface tension will lead to collapse of alveoli in infants. This is the leading cause of infant respiratory distress syndrome (IRDS). To develop CNT based biosensor, study of these interactions between sensor material (CNT) and protein (SPB) at atomic level is very important. In practical situation, many protein molecules may surround the sensing element CNT. In this case, protein adsorption on CNT is influenced by CNT-proteins and protein-protein interactions. In addition, different lengths of CNTs also affect the rate of protein adsorption on CNT surface. Results show, as the length of CNT increases also increasing the specific surface area we see greater protein adsorption rate. All protein molecules experience different degrees of conformation change to achieve their stable state on CNT surface

    Role of Surface Proteins in Magnetotaxis-based Applications

    Magnetospirillum magneticum (AMB-1) are a species of magnetotactic bacteria that are capable of orienting along the earth’s magnetic field lines through their organelles called magnetosomes. Many studies have shown that certain engineered-bacteria can infect the tumor cells resulting in a controlled death of a tumor. This work deals with a technique utilizing AMB-1 along a predefined path through magnetotaxis, which can pave a way for selective doping as well as isolation of the tumor cells from a group of healthy cells through a magnetic invasive assay (MIA). For such a control, tiny mesh of vertical electrical coils each having a diameter of ~ 5 mm is fabricated, which establishes the path for the bacteria to move along the magnetic field lines. The molecular dynamics simulations at the interface of the bacterial cell surface proteins (MSP-1 & flagellin) and Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cell surface containing cytoplasmic and extracellular proteins (BSG, B2M, SDC1, AIMP1, and FOS) will establish an association between the invading AMB-1 and the host CHO cells. The experimental demonstration will involve the CHO invasion by the AMB-1 and isolation of selected CHO cells. Statistical analysis along with the relevant electron and force microscopy data will confirm the number of AMB-1 and CHO cells involved before and after invasion and the role of directional control
