UB Rise 2024, Acupuncture Institute, College of Health SciencesThe primary aim of our study was to describe the demographic characteristics of acupuncture patients in an urban teaching. The demographics of those seeking acupuncture treatments at the University of Bridgeport Acupuncture Institute clinic are primarily female, mostly Caucasian, with ar average age of 54 years seeking treatment for musculoskeletal pain. This study was a retrospective review of the electronic health records (EHRs) of patients who had received at least one session of acupuncture at the UB Acupuncture Clinics and two calendar years (Jan 1 2022-Dec 31 2023)

Implementation of the DMAIC Technique on Road Safety

    No full text
Advisor: Prof. Khaled Elleithy & Dr. Dan Tenney UB RISE 2023, School of Engineering, College of Enegineering, Business, and Education, University of Bridgeport.Accidents are a hazard in every community. Safety is a scientific discipline investigating road accidents involving pedestrian injuries and fatalities. The approach is vital to protect the public. Road safety naturally includes aspects of engineering, infrastructure, and educational criteria for drivers and pedestrians. The Six Sigma (DMAIC) principle is an effective quality improvement tool to identify, improve and learn road safety systems for pedestrians by using Artificial intelligence as an RSL Application approach

The Development and Validation of the Skills Self-Efficacy Scale for Adolescents (SSES-A)

    No full text
UB Rise PostersPreparing adolescent students with essential skillis is crucial for their success in post-secondary endeavors. This study introduces the Skills Self-Efficacy Scale for Adolescents (SSES-A), a psychometrically validated tool designed to assess self-efficacy in critical skills for the future. The skills were identified based on the research of Kotsiou and colleagues (2022), which emphasizes the importance of problem solving, communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking across all ages and within the global landscape. Grounded in the self-efficacy efficacy tenet of Social Cognitive Theory, the SSES-A offers an instrument to evaluate adolescents self-efficacy in these five skill domains. Self-efficacy is empirically documented to enhance motivation, persistence, and success across various life dornains The SSES-A addresses a notable gap in current measurement tools, as, to date, no self-efficacy tool evaluates these skill domains comprehensively. The development of the SSES-A provides valuable insights that can inform and improve educational practices, thereby enhancing self-efficacy levels. Consequently, this instrument is poised to advance the preparedness of students for challenges, contributing to their overall development and self-efficacy ,ultimately leading to improved individual and collective outcomes

EXPLORING ELECTRIC VEHICLE ADOPTION TRENDS USING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

    No full text
UB Rise 2024, Department of Technology Management, School of EngineeringElectric vehicles (EVs) have emerged as a promising alternative to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles (Muratori et al., 2021). Understanding the patterns and trends in EV adoption is crucial for policymakers, manufacturers, and consumers alike (Lee & Brown, 2021). In this research, artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are employed, specifically the Random Forest (RF) algorithm, to explore EV adoption trends over time. With a dataset containing nearly 900,000 instances of EV title and registration activity, the research identifies key factors influencing EV adoption in relation to vehicle primary use. This refers to the main purpose for which an EV is used, such as passenger, commercial, taxis, trucks, farm vehicles, and others. The study uncovers notable trends in EV adoption, including increasing transaction volumes over time, varying preferences for model years, and the impact of factors such as electric range and vehicle make on adoption patterns. These finding contribute to a deeper understanding the evolving EV market and inform strategies for sustainable transportation initiatives

UB Rise PostersIn 2023 the global cost of cybercrime was estimated to surpass 11trillion.Cyberattackisaprimaryconcernforbusinesseslargeandsmall.AccordingtotheIBMCostofaDataBreachReport(2023),theglobalaveragecostofadatabreachin2023was11 trillion. Cyber attack is a primary concern for businesses large and small. According to the IBM Cost of a Data Breach Report (2023), the global average cost of a data breach in 2023 was 4.45 million and in the United States, the average cost of a data breach to a US organization reached $ 9.48 million. Currently, traditional cybersecurity methods struggle to keep pace with evolving Al-augmented cyber threats. Appropriate countermeasures must include integrating the strengths of Al. Al can play a crucial role in addressing the challenges of cybersecurity by enhancing detection, prevention response, and recovery capabilities through a combination of anomaly detection, machine learning, and behavioral theory

Disaster Relief Nurses: Exploring the impetus to respond to multiple efforts

    No full text
UB RISE 2023, School of Nursing, University of Bridgeport.Little is known abut the impact that disaster volunteerism has on nurses. It is important to hear the experiences of those who return again, to better understand reasons that call them back. Using grounded theory methodology, 20 nurses who responded to more than one disaster event participated in semistructured interviews. Several themes emerged, leading to a core category of facilitating self-transcendence, guided by Reed's middle-range theory. With repeat deployments come enhanced personal rewards that provide meaningful opportunities for selftranscendence

Susceptibilty of Leishmania promastigotes to Amphotercin B

UB RISE 2023, Dept. of Biology, School of Science and Society, University of Bridgeport.Leishmaniasis is a protozoal infection causing significant morbidity and mortality worldwide, despite aggressive efforts to control the disease. Multiple pharmacologic agents have been shown to be effective in the treatment of this infection; these include pentavalent antimonials, various formulations of amphotericin B, miltefosine, paromomycin, pentamidine and sodium stibogluconate. (Burza et al., 2018). However, significant issues still exist with the clinical use of these drugs, including adverse effects, costs, and routes of administration and the increasing rate of drug resistance in many Leishmania species(Ghorbani 2018). In addition, one of the challenges in addressing the clinical treatment of the infection is that the considerable variation in susceptibility among some Leishmania species to the various drugs currently in use

Rooting Teacher Preparation and Assessment in Equity

UB RISE 2023, School of Education, University of Bridgeport. This qualitative study explores teacher candidates' self-efficacy in the application of culturally responsive pedagogy (CRP) as measured by Siwatu's (2007) Culturally Responsive Teaching Self-Efficacy Scale and examines those perceptions considering candidates' performance on targeted rubrics of the Educative Teacher Performance Assessment ( edTPA), required for initial licensure in the state of Connecticut. Pearson's official edTPA scores on two relevant rubrics were analyzed with survey results to ascertain whether perceived abilities align with target scores indicating learner-ready teachers. Participant interviews provide a third data point for triangulation and further validation while illuminating other factors related to CRP implementation during the candidates' residency
