Programmable Logic Controller learning With EasyVeep
EasyVeep is a program used for Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) simulation. Using EasyVeep students can visualize and solve problems involving PLC and automation programming. EasyVeep help students to get broad view of working environment and able students to understand problems and solution approach more clearly by animation screens. EasyVeep tool give PLC a more approachable programming logic and a very effective teaching method implemented by many engineering schools in PLC and automation labs. In this poster, we present how EasyVeep helps students improve learning experiences about industrial process, automation and how it helps them understand PLC programming better
A Mixed-Methods Study of the Reasons Why Nontraditional Students Have Chosen to Attend College at a Later Point in Their Lives
The overall enrollment of nontraditional students at institutions of higher education has illustrated a significant increase over the past twenty years. This created a need to study such a phenomenon. Love of learning, financial considerations and internal provisions were a few of the factors provided by nontraditional learners as the reasons they enrolled in college at a later point in their lives. Conversely, factors such as financial concerns, self-esteem, and technological unfamiliarity were studied as factors that connected to reasons why they did not apply to college at an earlier point in their lives. This study utilized a mixed-methods case study design that analyzed the aforementioned factors as they related to ten nontraditional students in Southern New England. The researcher utilized interviews and surveys to gather relevant pieces of data. The research questions were the following: 1) What factors draw nontraditional students towards applying to college? 2) What factors draw nontraditional students away from applying to college? The data revealed that financial considerations were the primary reason nontraditional learners attend college. Nontraditional students wanted to learn new skills and cognitive methods in order to attain financial success. The factors in opposition exemplified managing work and familial responsibilities as some of the reasons why nontraditional students did not apply to college at an earlier point in their lives. Recommendations for educational leaders included revisiting or drafting plans that might help to make the overall college experience more effective for nontraditional learners. This would include social and financial considerations

Dissent And Games In Decision Making: Case Of Solar Technologies
Faculty Research Day 2018: Faculty Competitive Poster WinnerResearch in decision modeling has mainly focused on the ranking of alternative choices based on a consensus of experts and decision makers. However, a decision model can also be used represent rational conflict and dissent. This is illustrated by the example of a hierarchical decision model (HDM) to assess alternative solar photovoltaic (PV) technologies. Multiple perspectives are considered for consensus and conflict. The perspectives include: social, technical, economic, environmental, and political (STEEP). HDM is an appropriate method for determining the outcome for scenarios that consider one dominant perspective as well as the case where all the perspectives are relatively important. Prior research in this area involved the assessment of PV technologies based on the cooperation or consensus of experts. This study focuses on dissent that may lead to conflict. Dissent is evident if only one dominant perspective is considered to evaluate the alternate PV technologies. One dominant perspective implies conflict by the proponents of the other perspectives deemed “unimportant”. By using such a decision modeling approach, outcomes for both consensus and dissent scenarios are observable and comparable. Research is planned to develop this decision modeling approach to form a branch of game theory with a large number of players and decision elements

Upon entering college, students are met with a new set of societal, personal, and academic expectations that decide the degree to which they are able to adapt to their new lives (Tinto, 1993). Given the taxing mental demands associated with the college transition, as well as the increasing prevalence of mental illnesses among college students (Duarte, Ferreira, Trindade, & Pinto-Gouveia, 2015; Hunt & Eisenberg, 2010), extensive research has examined the many psychological components that can effect students’ college experiences. Yet, despite the extensive literatures centering around body image preoccupation and college students’ psychological health/adjustment to college, there have been no studies that assess body image alongside college adjustment. Investigation of Transient Recovery Voltage on Circuit Breaker
For technically adequate interruptive performance, circuit breaker (CB) must be able to sufficiently interrupt current and voltage transients in power system network. Transient recovery voltage (TRV), an overvoltage transient resulting from the initiation, or interruption of current greatly affects breaking capacity of breakers. Radiosensitization with Magnetic Nanoparticles
Radiation therapy, along with surgery and chemotherapy, are the major therapeutic strategies for cancer treatment. It involves the delivery of ionizing radiation with high accuracy to the tumor tissue, resulting in the death of tumor cells. Radiation sensitization is a process of enhancing the susceptibility of tumor tissues to injury by radiation exposure. Hence, radiation sensitizers are therapeutic or otherwise inert agents that enhance the effects of radiation therapy. Iron oxide nanoparticles, a type of magnetic nanoparticle (MNP), are amongst the nanomaterials which have been suggested as radiation sensitizers. Hyperthermia is a type of cancer treatment in which tissue is exposed to elevated temperatures. Hyperthermia is almost always used with other forms of cancer therapy, such as radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Hyperthermia may make some cancer cells more sensitive to radiation. When hyperthermia and radiation therapy are combined, they are often given within an hour of each other. MNP can induce localized hyperthermia when exposed to an alternating magnetic field (AMF). As MNP are potentially capable of producing two sensitization effects (x-ray interaction and hyperthermia generation) they are particularly attractive for this application

Graphene Patterned Microchip For Colorectal Cancer Detection
Cancer currently stands as the second-leading cause of death worldwide. Studies reveal colorectal cancer (CRC) to be the 4th leading cause of mortality due to cancer. It is estimated that about 30% of CRC cases are hereditary, of which 5% are attributed by known syndromes, particularly Lynch Syndrome. This pilot study aims to fabricate a DNA-graphene-polypyrrole (DGP) based biosensor to diagnose deficiency of functional MMR proteins present in patients at a scale of less than ng/ ml. We have followed LAB-on-CHIP method. We find that the interactive forces between avidin and graphene are mainly hydrophobic, along with some van der Waals, electrostatic and hydrogen bonding interactions. Different mismatch combinations were performed, to prove the activity of each component on the chip. 30 such combinations were done. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was done to confirm the working of the bio sensor by corresponding change in electrical impedance. To assist this real-world system, we have carried out simulation studies as well. In the simulation studies from 0-200ns, we present the progression structures of human MutS protein to biotinylated DNA that has been fixed to simulate the manner of a biosensor, furthermore the mismatch within the DNA has been manually introduced with the aid of computational tools to reveal the interactions of the DNA and the protein. This research additionally permits us in early detection of colorectal cancer and the mapping and expertise of the method related to the area of the mismatch repair
