    Technology has brought about profound changes in the advertising industry, affecting both consumers and businesses. These changes are mainly due to new technological tools that made it possible to target consumers based on their location, interests, age, and many other factors. Today, companies can tailor advertising campaigns based on the behavior of potential consumers from Internet usage, and send messages based on each consumer’s geographical location, areas of interest, history of Internet browsing, and demographic characteristics. In addition, the impact of using smartphones has grown to such a great degree that it has become a necessity not only for communications but also for other things such as game playing and entertainment, reading, writing, shopping, social networking, teleworking, etc. There has been a two-fold increase in smartphone usage in the past three years. Since 2014, smartphones have led the growth in digital media consumption. The average person spends 2 hours and 51 minutes a day on a mobile phone. In 2018, it is expected that the average time spent per day with mobile Internet, among US mobile users, will be 3 hours and 25 minutes for in-app usage versus 51 minutes for mobile web usage. According to Lipsman and Lella, “Mobile now represents almost 7 in 10 digital media minutes, and smartphone apps alone account for half of all digital consumption.” In addition, ads in mobile apps have become an integral part of the apps themselves. However, based on an analysis of the literature, there is a lack of knowledge about the consumer's behavior toward the ads presented within mobile applications.     Van der Waals Correction to Nuclear Fusion by Mechanical Adiabatic Compression of a Dense Plasma

    We consider fusion processes initiated by the rapid adiabatic compression by a piston of a deuterium plasma contained in a well‐insulated chamber. To exploit the n2 factor in the fusion reaction rate, we consider one mole of deuterium which, at ambient temperature and pressure, provides a particle density of ~ 10^19 cm^‐3. The reaction rate is enhanced by the application of magnetic and electric fields to reduce the number of degrees of freedom of the gas, thereby lowering its heat capacity and producing a higher temperature increase for a given energy input. Previous studies have shown that the combination of adiabatic operation, high particle density and reduced degrees of freedom can result in appreciable fusion rates at temperatures lower than those in magnetic confinement experiments. Prior work treated the deuterium gas as an ideal gas while the present work incorporates the corrections of a van der Waals gas. Both primary D-D reactions and secondary D-T reactions are considered. Conditions of energy-break-even and excess energy release were found at temperatures of the order of 10^6 K

    We expect future 5G network to have low power consumption and minimal delay, as well as a more flexible and secure architecture. Most of the research is concerned primarily with increasing energy efficiency and decreasing latency. Implementation of Software Defined Mobile Networking (SDMN) to control the range of cell site communication and device-to-device (D2D) technologies to enable the devices on the network to behave as routers between other devices and the cell site has the potential to significantly reduce the overall power consumption in the mobile network. Our research provides a theoretical approach for such model and shows that its implementation will increase energy efficiency in 5G

    Super Resolution and 3D Alignment Effects on Unsupervised Face Recognition in the Wild

    Majority of face recognition algorithms use query faces captured from uncontrolled, in the wild, environment. It is common for these captured facial images to be blurred or low resolution. Super resolution algorithms are therefore crucial in improving the resolution of such images especially when the image size is small requiring enlargement. This paper aims to demonstrate the effect of one of the state-of-the-art algorithms in the field of image super resolution. To demonstrate the functionality of the algorithm, various before and after 3D face alignment cases are provided using the images from the Labeled Faces in the Wild (lfw). Resulting images are subjected for testing on a closed set face recognition protocol using unsupervised algorithms with high dimension extracted features

    Simulation of PM2.5 Particulate Matter Pollution in US East Coast Using SMAT-CE Software

    Nowadays air pollution is becoming a serious global threat to human health and environment. Particulate matter with size of 2.5 micron or less are much more harmful for health because they can be easily absorbed into deep part of the lung. In order to control PM2.5 air pollution, it is important to understand the PM2.5 pollution diffusion mechanism and find out the factors affecting its propagation. In this poster, we use SMAT-CE software by US EPA and TIBCO to simulate the PM2.5 air pollution in US east coast. The data of PM2.5 pollution levels were collected by EPA and available in its website. Through SMAT-CE simulation, we plot the heat map of PM2.5 concentrations of major cities in US east coast in the past years. Based on the data, we tried to find its relation to various weather conditions, wind and other factors. The results will be helpful to further understand the behavior of PM2.5 air pollution and suggest some possible ways to improve the air quality in the area

    Molecular Dynamic Simulations of CRISPR and HIV

    In the United States, there were 37,600 new HIV infections in 2014, with an estimated 1.1 million people living with the disease in 2015, according to the CDC. HIV targets the cell receptor CD4 and chemocine coreceptors CCR5 or CXCR5. Some individuals possess a mutation within CCR5 that causes a resistance to HIV-1. One HIV+ patient in Berlin, Timothy Brown, developed an immunity to the virus after a bone marrow transplant from a donor who possessed this CCR5 mutation. After this coincidence, researchers attempted a variety of gene therapies, such as zinc finger nucleases (ZFNs), transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs), and Cas9. CRISPR/Cas9 is a promising new tool that scientists have been using to do direct editing of genomes with more ease and specificity than ever before. CRISPR stands for cluster of regularly interspaced palindromic repeats, which are segments of RNA that are found in many prokaryotes to defend the organism against viral infections and unwanted gene transfers. Cas is a gene cluster that mediates the response to the RNA encoded in the CRISPR segments. Cas are designated by the protein complex responsible for interference. Together, these molecules identify a segment of target RNA, extract it, and replace it with another segment. They make up part of the adaptive immune system of eukaryotic cells. This research hopes to create a predictive model by analyzing the existing gene therapy data from previous studies, and using numerical molecular dynamic simulation software to glean more information about those results. Previously published studies discuss how gene therapies such as ZFN and CRISPR are used to modify either the host genome or the viral genome3, and then experiments are performed to determine whether this therapy is effective at preventing viral infection. By analyzing the bonding characteristics of different strands of RNA, it may be possible to predict which RNA segments make the best candidates for gene therapies that will confer resistance to HIV infection

    3D Printed Hyaluronic Acid Hydrogels Using Free Form Fabrication Technique for Tissue Engineering

    Three-Dimensional (3D) printing is a manufacturing method in which objects, such as scaffolds, are made by fusing or depositing various materials in layers. The biomedical applications of 3D printing are numerous and continue to grow exponentially. In the present study we designed, developed and fabricated a chemically cross linked honeycomb scaffold using Hyaluronic acid, Gelatin, Alginate, and singe walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for use in tissue engineering and tissue regenerative applications. All three polymers have been used in various tissue engineering applications from liver regeneration to interocular lens (IOL) replacements. Cross linking of the homogenous polymers were done in a calcium chloride (CaCl2) bath. Preliminary tests on non-3D printed hydrogel showed increased mechanical stability and a solid structure when compared to the brittle, and mechanically unstable non cross linked hydrogels

    The reason that this experiment will be conducted is to see the growth of a fish embryo in microgravity. Our basic question is “How will microgravity affect the early growth of an organism?”. The reason that it will be conducted in microgravity is because if we ever colonize space we will need to know the effects of low gravity on a developing human embryo. This is vital because colonization of low gravity areas will require new people to be born and if microgravity leads to birth defects then we need to know before hand. Birth defects from microgravity are a real possibility. Things like the formation of the skeleton is vital for all vertebrate creatures that will one day be born and live in space
