Evaluation of a Teacher Preparation Program
A survey was conducted in the Education Department at University of Bridgeport, at the end of our teacher candidates’ program of study. The study was conducted to gain insight into the teacher candidates’ perceptions of their preparation for a career in teaching. The data also provided information regarding candidates’ reasons for choosing teaching as a career. The results collected from the survey were used to make program improvements and curricula development, which have led to National Accreditation status from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)
Emulated Operation of a Robotic Manitpulator by Electromyography Signals
Electromyography (EMG) is an electrodiagnostic medicine technique for evaluating and recording the electrical activity produced by skeletal muscles. EMG is performed using an instrument called an electromyograph to produce a record called an electromyogram. This paper proposes to find a solution to the two possible challenges, namely the manipulator movement speed and accurate angle the manipulator lifts. This challenge can be resolved using Electromyography (EMG) signals taken from the muscles of the body. The extracted signals have some noise which must be filtered in order to analyze the correct muscle signal, this can be imitated using a manipulator. The system consists of a control part which maps the coordinates to the position of manipulator. The control part maps the position of the manipulator based on the amplitude and frequency of the EMG signals. These signals are distinctive to individual poses and can be discriminated using a suitable classifier. Once the above issues are resolved this application can be very useful for amputees. For an example, a war veteran who has lost his arm can make the use of this technology to make his/her life easy. The brain sends the arm muscle signals which we can read and filter only muscle signals which can be sent to the robotic manipulator as an electrical signal and make it work accordingly

Schools throughout the United States have adopted school wide social emotional learning (SEL) programs in order to combat the destructive effects of disruptive behaviors and negative school climates all the while improving student academic and behavioral outcomes. Measuring the Effects of a Therapy Dog Assisted Reading Intervention for Third-Grade Students with Dyslexia: A Mixed Methods Case Study
Students with dyslexia often struggle with literacy acquisition and require reading interventions to improve their skills. This sequential mixed methods case study examines how a reading intervention that utilizes a therapy dog affects reading fluency, anxiety, motivation, and self-efficacy among third-grade students with dyslexia. Seven students were provided with a reading intervention in which they practiced oral reading twice per week for twenty minutes with a teacher certified in special education and a registered therapy dog. Four students had the intervention with the therapy dog present and three students had the intervention without the therapy dog present. Quantitative pre- and post-intervention data on reading fluency as measured by the easyCBM Passage Reading Fluency Assessment, anxiety, as measured by the Abbreviated Reading Anxiety Questionnaire, and motivation, as measured by the Motivation to Read Profile, was collected. Qualitative data on feelings of self-efficacy among students in the therapy dog group were collected through individual interviews with the participating teacher in addition to observational data. Inferential statistics were not possible because of the small sample size; however, percent changes from pre- to post-test were calculated for each measure. Findings support the use of therapy dogs as a tool to augment strong literacy instruction and support the social emotional needs of students. Students in the therapy dog group showed greater percent increases in reading fluency from pre- to post- assessment than students in the non-dog group; greater percent decreases in their levels of anxiety from pre- to post- assessment; and an increase in total reading motivation and self-concept as readers. Themes of ‘reading enjoyment’, ‘improved reading confidence’, and ‘decreased anxiety’ emerged through interviews on how students with dyslexia feel about their self-efficacy as readers when in the presence of a therapy dog

Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) is a system of software and hardware elements that allows industrial organizations to: Control industrial processes locally or at remote locations; Monitor, gather, and process real-time data; Directly interact with devices such as sensors, valves, pumps, motors, and more through human-machine interface (HMI) software; Record events into a log file. In this work, a SCADA system is developed with the Allen Bradley Micrologix 1100 and a Labview program. The data communication is through the RSLinx OPC server
A Comprehensive Review of Symptoms and Scales Related to Traumatic Brain Injury and the Need for a New TBI Symptom Scale
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a complex diagnosis with a vast variety of symptoms that can occur. The unique presentations that TBI can have make it particularly difficult to categorize. Currently the most commonly used categorization system for TBI is division between mild, moderate, and severe. The individual experience of TBI can be significantly different based on the symptomatic experience, which can skew the designation of mild, moderate, and/or severe. In evaluation of TBI there are many scales that can be used to evaluate many different aspects of how TBI impacts the individual. These scales include the Glasgow Coma Scale, Rancho Los Amigos scale, Modified Rankin, and Quality of Life After Brain Injury scale. The Glasgow Coma Scale is currently the primary scale being utilized in TBI evaluation. This scale evaluates the distinction between mild, moderate, and severe TBI but does not evaluate the full array of symptoms or how they change over time. Currently the Glasgow Coma Scale only looks at three symptom categories. There is a need for an increased understanding of what symptoms are occurring and how the symptoms change over time for the individual, which is critical for keeping track of progressions and regressions post-injury. Considering the way symptoms are often experienced in TBI and the variance that can be found based on time of day, stress, hormonal fluctuations, etc., a comprehensive evaluation of symptoms would require the input of caregivers. This would require a new evaluation scale to be developed that allows for a thorough review of potential symptoms. Herein there will be a review of the symptoms and current scales in use as well as a proposal of a new scale to fill in the gap of the current scales. This scale will allow for caregivers to provide valuable input in conjunction with health professionals to create a full picture of the presentation of the individuals specific TBI experience
Design to Combat the Effects of Greenhouse Gases and Pollution
This effect has created a global crisis that has caused the planet to rise in temperature and disrupt life on Earth. The largest contributor of the greenhouse gases is Carbon dioxide (CO2). CO2 lingers in the atmosphere and absorbs infrared radiation from the sun. The causes of CO2 being released in the atmosphere is due to transportation, energy, agriculture, and major industries. The rate in which we pollute and emit carbon dioxide into the air increases every year. Many industries release CO2 in their daily operations and contribute to the problem of global warming. In particular, the agricultural industry releases CO2 by burning crops for fertilization of soil. This poster introduces a novel product that utilizes the direct air capturing (DAC) process to create calcium carbonate for agricultural industries. Direct Air Capture (DAC) is the process of capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) directly from atmospheric air (US 2017/0106330 A1, n.d.). DAC is a very appealing method of carbon capturing and is considered to be one of the best methods of achieving negative CO2 emissions worldwide (Wilcox, Psarras, & Liguori, 2017). Opportunities for CO2 utilization include enhanced oil recovery, carbon mineralization, urea production, food and beverage, polymer processing, microalgae production, liquid fuels, and enhanced coal bed methane recovery (Wilcox, Psarras, & Liguori, 2017). The benefit of using DAC technology to clean CO2 is that it can be placed anywhere
