UB Rise 2025 Department of Computer Science and EngineeringEpilepsy is a neurological disorder affecting millions worldwide. Unpredictable and frequent seizures can significantly disrupt a person's daily activities, independence and emotional well-being. Also, individuals are at risk of accidents, falls and other injuries during seizure which can be a life-threatening. Effective seizure monitoring and in time accurate Seizure detection helps clinicians optimize treatment plans and medications could potentially reduce seizure frequency and improve overall quality of life

College of Engineering, Business, and Education Ernest C. Trefz School of Business UB Rise 2025The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 caused tremendous damage to the global economy as well as human sufferings. By the time the World Health Organization (WTO) declared the end of the pandemic in May 2023, the cumulative cases worldwide stood at more than 765 million, with nearly seven million deaths. Numerous studies have examined the damage to the world economy. Wu (2024), for instance, shows that 81% of the economies surveyed by the World Bank suffered economic downturns in 2020. Global gross domestic product (GDP) declined by 3.29% in the year, compared to an average annual growth rate of 3.05% over the five years prior to the outbreak of the pandemic

Evaluating the Effectiveness of Educational Programs in the Federal Bureau of Prisons

    No full text
UB Rise 2025 College of Science and Society Criminal Justice DepartmentThis research project aims to evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs within the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) in promoting inmate rehabilitation and reducing recidivism, without involving human subjects. The study focuses on analyzing existing data related to educational programs offered in BOP facilities, including academic, vocational, and life skills training. Through the examination of institutional records, program reports, and recidivism statistics, the research assesses the impact of these programs on post-release employment, reintegration success, and the likelihood of reoffending. Additionally, the project explores correlations between program participation and reduced recidivism rates, drawing comparisons across different types of programs and prison demographics. This data-driven approach allows for an objective evaluation of the effectiveness of BOP educational initiatives in contributing to rehabilitation and reducing long-term societal costs associated with incarceration. The findings provide insights into the strengths and weaknesses of current programs and offer recommendations for improving educational strategies within the federal prison system, with the goal of enhancing rehabilitation efforts and reducing recidivism without direct involvement of inmates or staff in the research process

UB Rise 2025 Department Of Technology ManagementThis study aims to identify the cultural, technological, and financial barriers that limit the empowerment of Saudi women entrepreneurs in National Social Projects (NSPs). It examines how Technology Management (TM) and Social Media help mitigate these obstacles. The study also explores the moderating role of TM in the relationship between obstacles faced by women entrepreneurs and women entrepreneurs’ empowerment in NSPs, as well as the moderating role of social media in this relationship

Enhancing Financial Stability Through Culturally Responsive Retention Strategies for International Students

    No full text
UB Rise 2025 School of EducationThe purpose of this study is to explore and explain how culturally responsive practices can influence international student retention at a given higher educational institute, focusing on Indian students as the largest international group. Grounded in Tinto's theory of integration, employing a mixed method of quantitative and qualitative approach, including creating focus groups and interviewing key stakeholders. Furthermore, this study will utilize surveys to gather data on best practices and policies for improving international student retention, ensuring that the voices and experiences of students are systematically analyzed and heard. Additionally, engaging key stakeholder both policymakers and policy implementers in meaningful communication with students fosters collaboration to support the primary goal: the well-being of international students. This, in turn, enhances their sense of belonging and improves retention rates. Retaining international students is not only crucial for the financial health of educational institutions but also plays a vital role in creating a vibrant, culturally diverse academic community

Visual SLAM in Action: Comparative Study

    No full text
UB Rise 2025 Department of Computer SystemsAutonomous vehicles have become one of the state-of-the-art fields in today's research and started to be crucial with smaller levels for everyday usage. One of the main challenges towards moving toward higher levels of autonomous driving is the real-time localization and mapping performance with regular or high-speed driving. SLAM is considered to be the solution for these high-speed vehicles to explore any new environment and to achieve the required localization and mapping performance in this unknown environment. In this paper, we did comparison between two major VSLAM techniques in this area, which are DROID-SLAM, which uses deep neural network architecture, and ORB-SLAM3, which utilizes crafted ORB (Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF) features and tracking algorithms. For both techniques, real-time datasets recorded from the technology building of the University of Bridgeport environment are utilized to compare their performance regarding mapping, localization, and time complexity. Results show several advantages and disadvantages for both algorithms, which are highlighted and explained over the proposed work

    Ashwagandha: Nature’s Powerful Adaptogen

    No full text
UB Rise 2025 UB Health Sciences UB Acupuncture InstituteAshwagandha, also known as Withania somnifera (Indian Ginseng or Winter Cherry), has been a cornerstone of Ayurvedic medicine for millennia. This powerful adaptogen is renowned for its ability to help the body manage stress, boost energy, and promote overall wellbeing. Although Ashwagandha is not currently an endangered species according to CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora), the ever growing worldwide demand for this versatile herb is exponentially outgrowing the supply. The herb naturally grows in dry regions of India, parts of the Middle East, and North Africa. Due to its resilience from changes in climate this plant spread beyond its native regions, now finding homes in gardens and farms worldwide. In order to prevent Ashwagandha from becoming endangered the need to explore wild craft or even hydroponic growing efforts quickly increases. We must create our own sustainable supply domestically as the popularity of this herb grows in the health and wellness industry

Evaluation of the Implementation of Low-Low Hospital Beds with Respect to Fall Frequency and Patient Harms: A Retrospective Analysis

    No full text
UB Rise 2025 College of Health Sciences, School of Health ProfessionsLow-low beds are commonly recommended for use as fall prevention measures in inpatient settings. However, despite their ubiquity, recent fall prevention guidelines are silent on the use of low-low beds for this purpose. Given these circumstances, and the considerable latency between the publication of evidence and the adoption or abjuring of healthcare quality measures, there remains a clear need for further reporting on this topic. This retrospective quality improvement study sought to identify whether the introduction of low-low hospital beds resulted in changes in the incidence, associated patient harms, or event characteristics of bed-related falls where implemented
