    WIMAX Basics from PHY Layer to Scheduling and Multicasting Approaches

    WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is an emerging broadband wireless technology for providing Last mile solutions for supporting higher bandwidth and multiple service classes with various quality of service requirement. The unique architecture of the WiMAX MAC and PHY layers that uses OFDMA to allocate multiple channels with different modulation schema and multiple time slots for each channel allows better adaptation of heterogeneous user’s requirements. The main architecture in WiMAX uses PMP (Point to Multipoint), Mesh mode or the new MMR (Mobile Multi hop Mode) deployments where scheduling and multicasting have different approaches. In PMP SS (Subscriber Station) connects directly to BS (Base Station) in a single hop route so channel conditions adaptations and supporting QoS for classes of services is the key points in scheduling, admission control or multicasting, while in Mesh networks SS connects to other SS Stations or to the BS in a multi hop routes, the MMR mode extends the PMP mode in which the SS connects to either a relay station (RS) or to Bs. Both MMR and Mesh uses centralized or distributed scheduling with multicasting schemas based on scheduling trees for routing. In this paper a broad study is conducted About WiMAX technology PMP and Mesh deployments from main physical layers features with differentiation of MAC layer features to scheduling and multicasting approaches in both modes of operations

    Modeling of the Transport Phenomena in GMAW Arc under the Shielding of Ar-He Mixtures

    Gas metal arc welding (GMAW) is one of the most widely used method to assemble parts together in various industries. Argon and helium are the most common shielding gases used in GMAW to protect the molten metal from oxidization. The shielding gas composition is a critical parameter in the GMAW process, which affects the efficiency, quality, and overall performance of the welding operation. In this project, a numerical investigation was conducted to study the transport phenomena in the GMAW arc under the shielding environments of pure Ar and three Ar-He mixtures. The detailed description of the transient arc plasma generation and interactions with moving droplets and weld pool surface provides insights into how the thermal physical properties of the two shielding gases affect the arc characteristics

The key capabilities of the platform are to maintain scalability and provide the user with the ability to design a system of desire. Collaboration is a global phenomenon and necessity that has at its core human interactions supported by the creative use of technology. Learning and practicing collaboration starts in the classroom for which reason we decided to build a collaborative platform to assist learning and teaching by accomplishing both: increasing the effectiveness of teachers to deliver and students to acquire knowledge

    Chiropractic wellness on the web: the content and quality of information related to wellness and primary prevention on the Internet

    Background: The Internet has become a common source of information for patients wishing to learn about health information. Previous studies found information related to back pain poor and often contradictory to current guidelines. Wellness has become a common topic in the field of chiropractic and accrediting agencies have standards on delivery of wellness-based content in college curricula as well as directives for clinical applications. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality of the information on the Internet using the terms "chiropractic wellness," or "wellness chiropractic". Methods: Five commonly used search engines were selected and the first 10 sites found using the strategy above were evaluated by two raters. Demographic assessments of the sites were made along with whether they were Health on the Net Foundation (HON) certified, contained standard wellness content, mentioned any Healthy People Focus Areas, and other chiropractic topics. Kappa statistics compared inter-rater agreement. Results: Potential patients appeared to be the audience 87% of the time and a private doctor of chiropractic appeared to be the typical site owner. The sites usually promoted the provider. No sites displayed HON certification logo nor did any appear to meet the HON certification criteria. Twenty-six sites (55%) promoted regular physical activity in some manner and 18 (38%) had information on health risks of tobacco. Four (9%) had mental health or stress-reduction content but none had information supportive of vaccination. Some had information contradictory to common public health measures. Conclusions: Patients searching the Internet for chiropractic wellness information will often find useless information that will not help them maintain health or become well. Most simply market the chiropractic practice or allow for a patients to provide personal information in exchange for more 'wellness' information. More research should be done on how providers determine site content, pay any attention to the details on their sites, or agree with content as some appear to be prefabricated sites. Website content could be enhanced by sharing of information from reputable sources like US Centers for Disease Control, the National Institutes of Health and other authoritative sources.     Comparison of Dental Hygiene Clinical Instructor and Student Opinions of Professional Preparation for Clinical Instruction

    Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the degree of professional preparation among clinical instructors employed in baccalaureate dental hygiene programs in the U.S. and to examine clinical instructors' and students' perceived need for educational preparation. The data-generating sample consisted of 285 dental hygiene clinical students and 76 dental hygiene clinical instructors from the 48 dental hygiene programs in the U.S. that offered a baccalaureate or higher degree in dental hygiene. Methods: Online survey instruments contained both qualitative and quantitative questions and were completed by 285 clinical dental hygiene students and 76 clinical dental hygiene instructors from dental hygiene programs in the U.S. Using descriptive statistics, Chi-square analysis and the Mann-Whitney U test, the data from clinical dental hygiene instructors and students were compared to determine if the preparation in educational methods being offered to dental hygiene clinical instructors was meeting the perceived needs of both clinical dental hygiene students and instructors. Results: According to dental hygiene clinical students (n=285), 60% (n=171) indicated that 6 to 10 years of clinical dental hygiene experience was optimal, while 37% of clinical instructors (n=28) identified having less than 5 years of clinical experience prior to clinical teaching. Therefore, the majority of clinical instructors have less than optimal years of clinical dental hygiene experience prior to clinical instructing. Regarding methods of pre-employment preparation, more than half (n=40) of the dental hygiene clinical instructors (n=76) reported most professional preparation occurred through informal discussion with fellow clinical instructors. Significant differences were found between the clinical dental hygiene instructors' and clinical dental hygiene students' opinions of importance of clinical instructors being given formal guidance in educational methodologies (p=0.002), communication skills (p=0.027), grading and evaluation techniques (p=0.001) and use of technology (p=0.008). Although the majority of instructors and students rated training in teaching methods and communication skills as most important, the majority of clinical dental hygiene instructors (74%, n=53) identified grading and evaluation techniques as the most addressed subject of training. Conclusion: Both dental hygiene clinical instructors and students identified areas of potential improvement in the professional educational guidance of dental hygiene clinical instructors.     A Multi-Algorithm, High Reliability Steganalyzer Based on Services Oriented Architecture

    In this prospectus we are proposing to develop a unified Steganalyzer that can not only work with different media types such as images and audio, but further is capable of providing improved accuracy in stego detection through the use of multiple algorithms running in parallel. Our proposed system integrates different steganalysis techniques in a reliable Steganalyzer with distributed and Services Oriented Architecture (SOA). The distributed architecture not only allows for concurrent processing to speed up the system, but also provides higher reliability than reported in the existing literature. The extendable nature of the SOA implementation allows for easy addition of new Steganalysis algorithms to the system in terms of services. The universal steganalysis technique proposed in this prospectus involves two processes; feature extraction and feature classification. Three methods are used for feature extraction; Mel-Cepstrum and Markov (for audio), and Intra-blocks for (JPEG images). The feature classification process is implemented using neural network classifier. The unified steganalyzer is tested for JPEG images and WAV audio files. The accuracy of classification ranges from 96.8% to 99.8% depending on the object type and the feature extraction method. In particular, an enhancement of Mel-Cepstrum technique is proposed that achieves an accuracy of 99.8%. This is significantly better than detection accuracy of 89.9% to 98.6% [Liu 2011] where even a much larger training dataset was used than ours

    Factor Analysis in Measuring Information Systems Effectiveness

    © ASEE 2011In order to evaluate the value and usefulness of information systems that guide IS management actions and IS investments, DeLone and McLean established a universal definition of IS success that includes different perspectives of how information systems might be evaluated. The IS success taxonomy consists of six success categories (1) systems quality, (2) information quality, (3) service quality, (4) use, (5) user satisfaction, and (6) net benefit from which they created a multidimensional and interdependent measuring model that exemplifies the interdependencies between the different success categories to capture the complex nature of IS success. While the characteristics of information systems steadily increase in scope and complexity, it is imperious that academia and practice develop the means to evaluate the successfulness or effectiveness of a system and understand the factors and circumstances to build and maintain a successful system. The objective of conducting empirical research on systems success is to gain insight into the details of the complex systems processes and features which can be translated into prescriptive action plans for implementation. A focus of this article is to discuss how potential “user perceptions” influence on the information system effectiveness. The DeLone model is used as a base model for the systematic study of the features, factors and delivered benefits. The article employs the survey as an instrument to operationalize the model. The paper introduces the factor analysis technique to estimate the parameters of the proposed casual model. The factor analysis of the result reveals the underlying constructs that guide the decision making and planning processes for successful information systems implementations
