    Energy Audit in Residential Building

    No full text
This paper deals with the study of energy audit of residential building at Trumbull, CT (USA). Worldwide,30-40% of all primary energy is used for buildings and they are held responsible for 40-50% of green house gas emissions. Sustainable development is essential for the residential building construction. It has various benefits such as low environmental impact, high economical and social gains. An energy audit is an assessment of how much energy is used and identifying where it is used. We can get a detail idea about energy consumption, identifying, enumerating and evaluating possible energy saving opportunity

The Application of Real Options in E-Business System Management

    No full text
This paper studies the performance of real options applied in the e-Business system investment. We propose a model to address managerial flexibility in introducing the e-Business system into a traditional business and seek an optimum time point for investment. Based on the assumptions of the base demand, the derived demand occurring on the new e-Business system can be characterized by nonstationary stochastic processes. The model solutions can be acquired by solving a dynamic programming taking into account the discounted cash-flow. The sensitivity analysis is also provided through model evaluation and numerical illustration

The effect of soil quality on phosphate, nitrite, nitrate, pH, water retuention and its effects on germination, leaf production and flowering of Arabidopsis thaliana

    No full text
Arabidopsis thaliana (Columbia) was exposed to 4 different soil types (100% sand, 50/50 sand and perlite, 50/50 sand/charcoal and standard potting mix) in the presence and absence of fertilizer. In the fertilizer treatment, the plants were exposed to a 50 ppm fertilizer at two and four weeks after planting. Leaf number and length of largest leaf were measured once a week throughout eight weeks of the experiment. Twice during the experiment, soil concentration of phosphates, nitrates, nitrates and pH was measured. Water retention was tested once in the beginning of the experiment each day for seven days. Most plants in the high fertilizer treatment died after the second treatment. The plants in the no fertilizer treatment grew slowly. The control plants, grown in potting mix without fertilizer showed the most growth. Only the plants grown in pure sand, without fertilizer, flowered

Real Life High Voltage Accident Cases - Teaching Electrical Safety

    No full text
© ASEE 2012We discuss the engineering principles of Hi-voltage (any voltage above 600 volts). We cite 4 examples that typify some of the problems facing the Engineer and technician working with Hi-voltages, including geometry considerations, the need to follow proper protocol and the laws (both scientific and political) governing Hi-voltage. Poor design considerations in capacitor construction is the first case we consider, as well as the lack of proper protocols in discharging same. In the second case, a warning can be made that one should never get too close to a Hi-voltage line, unless the power is cut. In the third case, following simple rules in measurement of an unknown voltage could avoid a serious accident. In the fourth case, a high voltage shows up in a low-voltage circuit. These unfortunate cases are used as teaching tools to impart details of electrical safety in common industrial setting

Steganography in Arabic Text Using Full Diacritics Text

    No full text
The need for secure communications has significantly increased with the explosive growth of the internet and mobile communications. The usage of text documents has doubled several times over the past years especially with mobile devices. In this paper we propose a new Steganogaphy algorithm for Arabic text. The algorithm employs some Arabic language characteristics, which represent as small vowel letters. Arabic Diacritics is an optional property for any text and usually is not popularly used. Many algorithms tried to employ this property to hide data in Arabic text. In our method, we use this property to hide data and reduce the probability of suspicions hiding. Our approach uses a performance metric involves the file size before and after adding Diacritics and ability to hide data with being suspicious

Simulation of 3-D Conjugate Heat Transfer in a rectangular cooling channel

    No full text
Over the course of the past decade, a number of investigations have been conducted to better understand the fluid flow and heat transfer in channel heat sinks. In this study full three-dimensional (3-D) conjugate heat transfer analysis is performed by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes for evaluating the thermal performance of rectangular cooling channel (heat sinks)
