Paradigm Considerations and Mixed Methods in Social Science Research
A poster that discusses the interrelation and effects of worldviews on mixed methods research
Engineering Class Assistant Using Moddle Open Source
Over the years, faculty members seek for more efficient and productive approach in developing and promoting engineering profession. This research aims at utilizing existing tools or technologies in the development of a dynamic course management system that will not only improve faculty/students interactive sessions, but also will initiate a self-paced learning environment that is accessible and available to students
Fiber Quantification in Rats' Abdominal Aorta Using Matlab
This thesis is being archived as a Digitized Shelf Copy for campus access to current students and staff only. We currently cannot provide this open access without the author's permission. If you are the author of this work and desire to provide it open access or wish access removed please contact the Wahlstrom Library to discuss permission. The quantitative analysis of filaments network in a living cell is important for understanding its role in biological function. A Matlab program, developed by Samir, Shah and others at Wake Forest University in 2004, was used for filaments recognition in 2-D images. The obtained information carries out tremendous mechanical and functional properties based on the cell type and condition. In this work we compared the fibers length and density in both normal and abnormal mouse's abdominal artery images. The results show a huge different in the density of the filaments and the angular orientation. The differences in fibers length were also distributed. Through these results we got motivated to understand the mechanical properties of the Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA), and how the orientations of filaments tend to change according to the effects. That may lead to suitable strategies towards effective treatments of the Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
Leading the Way of Higher Education into 21st Century
It has been 15 to 16 years in the arena of Higher education and counting; started as Financial Aid Counselor and presently as one of the Associate Director of Student Financial Services at a Four year non-profit institution of higher education. It has never crossed my mind to continue my master's degree but in times of difficult economic crisis and high competitors in the job market is inevitable that one cannot be blind to the economic and social environment and fallen behind by not upgrading yourself professionally, to maintain your job and continue be competitive in the job market. One of my biggest flaws in my profession is the lack of knowledge for Technology and its implementation. Therefore, I decided to take one class after almost 20 years on which I have not grabbed or read a book for schoolwork. As I mentioned one time to one of my peers, he advise me to go for Masters in Science in Technology management. I have to thank my colleague to encouraged me in start to register for a graduate course and to my professor for his patience, tolerance and understating by giving me the flexibility and allow me to follow and complete the material of the course at my pace. This course of Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, has been an exciting awakening in which had taught me the basic foundations to be able to choose my topic. The topic that I have chosen is leading the way of Higher Education into the 21st century. It has taken me several hours of researching related materials, journals and articles to see what other researchers has observed, wrote, developed and proposed to improve Higher education in the United States; what will take us to be one of the best among others abroad institutions of the world. Where the technology and economic globalization has already reached all facets of our daily lives and where it is time to act now
Computer Assisted Detection for Liver Neoplams
Imaging is currently performed in oncologic patients for staging. Images are evaluated by radiologist and lesions with the liver are detected manually. Currently there is no software available which is able to detect and measure tumor volumes automatically. We are developing a software that may be able to detect tumor and give volumetric measurements automatically. Using this software a radiologist may be able to compare computer generated volumetric data in serial imaging of the patients over time, which may help in assessing progression or regression of disease and help in treatment planning
Effect of Curvature on the Performance of Cylindrical Microstrip Printed Antenna for TM01 mode
Curvature has a great effect on fringing field of a microstrip antenna and consequently fringing field affects effective dielectric constant and then all antenna parameters. A new mathematical model for input impedance, return loss, voltage standing wave ratio and electric and magnetic fields is introduced in this paper. These parameters are given for TM01mode and using two different substrate materials RT/duroid-5880 PTFE. Experimental results are also introduced to validate the new model
The Scribe
This is the October 2012 edition of The Scribe, Issue 2. The front page features an article on campus security along with a horoscope. Additional articles include coverage of Family Weekend, fashion, and entertainment
A Different Type of Crisis
The past 30 years saw China rising from a populous developing country to a formidable world power with an economy second only to the United States. While the economic development is surging ahead, the society's value system seems to be shaky, if not collapsed. This project examines the reasons why this is happening
