    Automated Segmentation of Retinal Vasculature

    Image processing, analysis and computer vision techniques are increasing in all fields of medical science, and are especially applicable to modern ophthalmology. Automated image segmentation processing has the prospective for early detection of many diseases like the diabetes, by detecting changes in blood vessel in the retina images . The focus of this poster is on the automated segmentation of vessels in color images of the retina by describes the development of segmentation methodology in the processing of retinal blood vessel images using the region growing method and the Powerlaw transformation . The retina is the only location where blood vessels can be directly visualized non-invasively in vivo. Inspection of the retinal vasculature may reveal hypertension, diabetes, arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, and stroke. In the same time with suitable feature extraction and automated classification methods, this segmentation method could form the basis of a quick and accurate test for the retina image, which would have many benefits for improved the access to screening people for risk or presence of diseases

    Advances in polymers, soft-electronics, biosensors and mobile communication, have led to a growing interest in wireless Electrocardiogram (ECG) monitors. A wide variety of textile-based wireless ECG sensors and systems have been developed. Typically, such wireless ECG systems rely on miniature ECG sensor/electrode that can be worn as badges, patches, or jewelry to measure and show advance reactions. Smart textile and non-contact electrodes have also been reported recently. The earlier stage of smart clothing usually tether conventional electrode sensors or devices attached to the textile. Such approaches have their limitations such as discomfort and integration with the fabric. The focus of our research is design and the development of non-contact textiles ECG electrode for remote health monitoring applications

    This paper deals with the study of energy audit of four storey hotel building in Cromwell, CT (USA). Energy is the prime mover of economic growth. Water and energy resources are vital to the substance of a modern economy. The demand for energy is increasing because of technological development, atomization, and growing agricultural activities. The rising energy and utility bills have been the focus of serious concerns due to the pressure it has placed on people. Demand is more than supply because of a scarcity of resources; our desire is greater than the available resources.As per the report of Energy Star building manual the United States' 47,000 hotels spend an average of $2,196 per available room each year on energy, an amount that represents about 6 percent of all hotel operating costs.[2] The growing population and improvements in living standards have resulted in rising consumption of natural resources. An internal energy audit is an assessment of how much energy is used and identifying where it is used. Based on the research data, we can find out simple ways for saving energy in the Hotel building. The preliminary information like power requirement of each unit is estimated and the utility data is collected from the last two years with the occupancy level. The audit identifies the energy usage and losses at each point of use within and around the facility. This paper is focused on the energy audit of a four storey hotel building at a medium level and possible ways of energy use reduction in the Hotel

    Utilizing mixed refrigerant cycle to develop small scale nitrogen liquefier

    Liquefied gases which are cooled below -150 oC temperature are called Cryogens. Liquefaction of gases has been a major application of the Cryogenics field. The gas liquefaction industry is growing nowadays with a faster pace, to facilitate increasing applications of cryogens in areas like heat treatment of metals, industrial and biomedical research, production of jet propellants and so on. This increasing demand of liquefied gases is driving intensive research for improvement and optimization of the gas liquefaction systems. Various innovative approaches of gas liquefaction are being developed and tested. The comprehensive objective of this research work is to find a suitable mixed-refrigerant cycle for the liquefaction of Nitrogen gas in small scale. To accomplish this objective a detailed study of the effects of variation of operating parameters such as, gas compression ratio, number of heat exchangers and expansion methods for mixed-refrigerant, on the system performance is studied. A comparative study of currently used liquefaction systems is also presented. This study will be followed by simulation of the developed mixed-refrigerant system for its analyses and optimization
