Automated mechanical system for loading and feeding two machined plates for assembly and rotating by 90˚ in Automobile Industry
© ASEE 2016Purpose of this research paper is to introduce a design of a fully automated, cost effective, high-speed mechanical system. This system will assemble two plates of a batch or lot production and deliver them for inspection. For example, in the automobile industry, this system can be used to carry out an assembly of a clutch release bearing and its hub. Automated tools like a rod less pneumatic cylinder and gripper unit, a mechanical flipper wheel, precision indexing conveyors and proximity laser sensors have been used to complete the required tasks at high-speed and with high accuracy. This system is designed and modeled using the Creo Parametric 2.0 software and its computer-aided structural analysis is carried out with the assistance of the ANSYS Workbench 16.0 software
Web Search and Browser Log analysis using BangDB for Decision Support
Big data is an emerging data that is beyond the capacity of a conventional database tools to analyse. BangDB rides the bigdata where data is processed using clusters. Web server logs are semi-structured files generated in a large volume by web users usually of flat text files. This paper performs the analysis on log files using BandDB in a distributed cluster. This framework affective detects the useful statistics like top n searches in a time period by the unique users search and pages accessed by the users. These results are compared with other NoSQL databases, and it results in a better time efficiency, storage and processing speed
UB Robot Swarm - Design, Implementation, and Power Management
In this paper we describe the hardware architecture of an inexpensive, heterogeneous robot swarm, designed and developed at the RISC lab, University of Bridgeport. Each swarm robot is equipped with sensors, actuators, control and communication units, power supply, and interconnection mechanism. This article also describes the essential features and design of a power distribution and management system for a dynamically reconfigurable system. It further presents the empirical results of the proposed power management system collected with the real robotic applications
Image processing tasks applied to robot vision system and path discovery
This work presents the project of a mobile robot with an attached handler, programmed to collect small objects in the near area. The robot takes photos – is able to process a constant stream of images – of the surround area searching for objects, and goes to the nearest one to collect. After collecting, the robot has to put the object in a specified place. The robot will keep searching for objects and moving while on. The image processing job is to do a contrast between the floor color and the colors of the objects, and then the algorithm provides the location to move on. The project is built with a Raspberry Pi/Raspbian platform running a python program that uses the OpenCV library to process images and parameters used to guide the robot, a simple webcam that provides high resolution images, and the motors as final actuators to control the movement of the robot and the handler
Chirality Based Seperation of Carbon Nanotubes by Analyzing the Specific Interaction With the AMB-1 Flagellin Derived Tripeptide
Isaac et. al (2015) studied the interaction between the flagellum of AMB-1 and different chirality CNTs (m-CNT and s-CNT). The observations through Molecular Dynamics simulations demonstrated that the glycine residues in D3 domain of flagellum interacts with m-CNT whereas such an interaction with s-CNT is absent. The specific interaction of glycine with m-CNT can lead to the development of a biological method for chirality based CNT sorting. Hence, further studies were required to determine the effect of the residues flanking glycine on it’s interaction with m-CNT. The type of interactions and the extent of interaction of different combinations of polar and non-polar amino acid residues flanking glycine were conducted. Hence, the role of glycine with two flanking amino acid residues (tripeptide) is substantiated to determine it’s specific interaction with m-CNT through the study of interaction energy and RMSD of the middle glycine and the flanking residues towards the adsorption of the tripeptide onto m-CNT
Factors Impacting Employee Job Satisfaction
This study explains the factors that have an affect on job satisfaction between employees within an organization. In addition, this study clarifies the relationship between the work environment and job satisfaction within an organization. This paper demonstrates the importance of attaining job satisfaction through creating a positive workplace. Also, the research illustrates the role of job satisfaction in an organization's performance. The conclusion of this study shows that working conditions, salary and compensations, fairness, respect from co-workers, and the relationship with supervisors have an overall impact on job satisfaction amongst an organization's employees
Predicting Stock Trading Volume through Social Media Data
Social media plays a big role and can profoundly affect individual behavior and decision-making. This project is to predict the stock trading volume trend from multiple online sources. I chose Facebook to demonstrate the relationship between the stock trading volume and social media data. I used Twitter API to obtain the number of tweets, the number of “retweet” and “favorite” of twitter users. Support vector machine Model(SVM) is used in this project. The daily stock volume data is from Yahoo! Finance, Standard & Poor’s 500 indexes (S&P 500) during the period of July 2015 to December 2015. Through social media data, I analyze the tweet amount and the response form public. This way, I generated the percentage of impact rate on trading volume through social media data. It would be helpful to investment companies to predict the trend of stock market
Localization and Mobility of Underwater Acoustic Sensor Nodes
The Underwater Acoustic Sensor Network (UASN) is a network which consists of underwater wireless sensor nodes distributed randomly over the certain area of observation and communicate with each other using acoustic signals. UASN can be used in a wide variety of underwater applications, ranging from marine biology surveillance to earthquake and tsunami alert applications. Despite the fact that sensor networks are meant to collect data, in some applications, collection of data without a location of the occurrence becomes incoherent. Hence, localization for UASN has become an enthralling research topic in the recent years. However, there are several obstacles coming from the acoustic channel like propagation delay, limited energy sources, high bit error rate, and limited underwater harvesting techniques making the localization of UASN quite challenging. Therefore, in this poster we are proposing a distributed localization scheme which employs two-way time of arrival estimation method to calculate distance and avoid the requirement of time synchronization
Preschool STEAM: Yes They Can!
This project addresses the need for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) initiatives at the early childhood level. Research states that early exposure to STEM initiatives and activities positively impacts elementary students’ perceptions and dispositions (Bagiati, Yoon, Evangelou, & Ngambeki, 2010; Bybee, & Fuchs, 2006; DeJarnette, 2012). The goal of this research is to positively impact the implementation of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) lessons in the Early Childhood classroom through providing professional development for the Early Childhood teachers. It is hypothesized that through professional development, resources, and support, Early Childhood teachers will build efficacy and build positive dispositions towards developing consistent STEAM lessons for their preschool students
Neurobiological Based Navigation Map Created During the SLAM Process of a Mobile Robot
In theory, an autonomous mobile robot’s ability to navigate with greater intelligence and flexibility in a dynamic environment would be possible if its navigation system was modeled after that of biological creatures. More specifically, to create an agent that mimics neurobiological navigation cells and neural network connections as found in the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex of rodent brains. These navigation cells are the: place cells, head direction cells, boundary cells, and grid cells, as well as memory. To navigate from one waypoint to another, our mobile robot, known as ratbot, uses inspiration from place cells and head direction cells for path integration. This is accomplished through use of vectors and vector mathematics. Additionally, the ratbot uses a field programmable gate array (FPGA) to emulate grid cell functionality for environment mapping and spatial cognition
