    Analysis of Students’ Errors in Solving Mathematical Critical Thinking Problems on Junior High School

    Critical thinking ability is one of the important competencies that students must have in facing challenges in the information age. This research aims to identify the types of errors made by class VII junior high school students in solving critical thinking skills questions on algebra material. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with the research subjects were 32 students in class VII.7, data collection was carried out through written tests containing critical thinking questions. It was found that several students made mistakes in solving algebra material questions, namely 1) Not understanding the concept of algebra definition; (2) The settlement process is not systematic; (3) There is no resolution process, go straight to the answer; (4) Do not understand the meaning of the question; (5) Weak in analyzing and arguing (6) Difficulty modeling problems in algebraic form; (7) Not understanding how to calculate operations and the properties of algebraic operations; (8) No identification of questions, no collection and compilation of data in the questions; (9) Not familiar with complex multiple choice questions. This research shows that students' critical thinking skills in solving algebra problems are still low. This is caused by several factors, such as a lack of in-depth understanding of concepts, lack of process skills, and less effective study habits. To improve students' critical thinking abilities, improvements in learning need to be made, such as strengthening understanding of concepts, developing process skills, and improving study habits

    Ethnomathematics on Ayunan Jantra in Bali: Integration of Mathematical Concepts in Culture

    This research explores the concept of ethnomathematics in the ayunan jantra culture in Majalangu Village, Denpasar, Bali. Using an ethnographic approach, this research identifies the mathematical elements contained in the making, structure and use of the jantJra swing. The research was conducted through observation, interviews and documentation when the ayunan jantra was used at a Balinese traditional ceremony. The interview was conducted with Mr. I Made Semara Putra, the manager of the Subak TeBA Majalangu Educational Tourism foundation, Denpasar, Bali. Swing jantra has a philosophy about the values of life, namely the rotation of destiny that we do not know, but must be ready to live it. The main findings of this research are the application of the concepts of geometry, proportion and oscillation in the making and operation of the ayunan jantra. From the geometry aspect, the swing structure includes the position of the support, rotating shaft, and arms that refer to the principles of symmetry and balance. In addition, the measurement of the dimensions of the arms and stand shows the application of the concepts of proportion and comparison. The use of the ayunan jantra also involves the concept of oscillation where the rotating movement resembles harmonic oscillation. This research reveals that Balinese people have intuitively integrated mathematical concepts into their cultural traditions. The findings from this study offer new insights into the relationship between cultural traditions and mathematics learning that could contribute to developing ethnomathematics-based learning in schools. This research is expected to enrich culture-based mathematics learning methods and preserve the local wisdom of the Balinese people

    PROFIL KEPERCAYAAN DIRI SISWA TINGKAT VIII SMP NEGERI 3 CIMAHI

    This study aims to determine the profile of self-confidence of students in level VIII of SMP Negeri 3 Cimahi. This study used a descriptive quantitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of a self-confidence questionnaire given to 74 students from two classes, namely classes VIII-F and VIII-A. The results showed that the profile of self-confidence in level VIII students of SMP Negeri 3 Cimahi based on aspects of confidence in their abilities, most students were in the high category, as many as 39 students with a percentage of 53%. Meanwhile, of the five aspects that are most in the very low category, namely in the rational and realistic aspects, there are 13 students with a percentage of 18%. based on the results of the graph, it shows that female students are more in the very low category, totaling 7 while male students are 4 in the very low category. In addition, the difference between classes based on the results of the graph shows that class VIII-A with a percentage of 50.7% and class VIII-F 49.3%. Looking at these results confirms that there is a need for customized strategies to increase student confidence, according to the unique conditions of each class

    Procrastination, or the habit of procrastinating, is a common phenomenon among individuals of all ages and educational levels. Although considered a harmful habit, procrastination is a complex and multifaceted topic, which involves psychological, social and environmental factors.  The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of the application of group guidance with behavior contract techniques in reducing procrastination of junior high school students. The method used in this research is quasi experiment with nonequivalent control group design. The samples of this study were 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students at SMP Plus Anwarul Huda. The students involved were 20 students who were divided into two groups, namely the experimental group and the control group. Based on the results of the Independent Sample T-Test test. The N-Gain test shows that group guidance with behavior contract techniques has an impact in reducing procrastination with a significant value (2-tailed) of 0.012 <0.05 and the N-Gain Score results show the average result for the experimental class of -1.004 and the average group class is -0.061. With this reduction in procrastination, it can be stated that group guidance with behavior contract techniques has an impact in reducing academic procrastination

    Adaptation in implementation and learning is the key to creating competent, excellent, and globally competitive human resources. Differentiated learning can address this challenge as it aligns with students' conditions, needs, and potential. This approach can stimulate students to master Mathematical Reversible Thinking Ability (KRTM), which plays a crucial role in students' success in solving mathematical problems. Despite its significance, field observations indicate that this ability remains relatively low. As a solution, a VBA-Excel-based digital module can be utilized in differentiated learning as a strategy to effectively enhance KRTM. he aim of this research is to assess the effectiveness of implementing differentiated learning using a VBA-Excel-based digital module to improve high school students' KRTM. The research method employed is the Mixed Method with The Explanatory Sequential Design. The research was carried out with high school students in a district in Bandung. The research instruments included ability tests and open-ended questionnaires to collect students' responses. The findings indicate that the differentiated learning strategy using a VBA-Excel-based digital module significantly improves KRTM. Students demonstrated a good understanding of the material and showed enthusiasm in learning, as the approach aligns with their characteristics and needs

    Penggunaan model pembelajaran discovery learning untuk meningkatkan kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa SMP

    The aim of the research is to find out whether there is an increase in students' mathematical reasoning abilities with the discovery learning learning model compared to ordinary learning. The method used was quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent pretest-posttest design. The population in this study were class VIII students at SMP PGRI 1 Cimahi. The sample in this study was 30 students from class VIII-C and class VIII-D for each class. Class VIII-C is used as an experimental class and class VIII-D is used as a control class. The data collection technique in this research was through a written test consisting of six descriptive questions. The data obtained will be analyzed and processed with the help of IBM SPSS version 26 for Windows software. Based on the research results, H_0 was rejected and H_1 was accepted, meaning that there was an increase in the mathematical reasoning abilities of students whose learning used regular learning. Thus it can be concluded that there is an increase in mathematical reasoning abilities in the experimental class which uses the Discovery Learning Learning Model

    The objective of this research is to describe students’ mathematical communication in terms of student’s learning interests based on the SOLO Taxonomy level. The research method is a descriptive qualitative study conducted at SMPN 35 Pekanbaru grades VIII. The subject of this research is 8 students in grades VIII with high and medium learning interests. The research instruments used are a learning interest questionnaire and a mathematical communication test. The analysis consists of three stages: data condensation, displaying data, and drawing the conclusion. The research concludes there is no significant difference in students’ mathematical communication levels between medium and high learning interest students. Students with medium and high learning interests are on the multi-structural level. However, students with high learning interests put more effort into solving mathematics problems than students with medium learning interests. Therefore, efforts are needed, such as using the interactive learning model and media which increase the student’s learning interest to develop students’ mathematical communication ability

    Conceptual understanding of circle elements for visual impairment students: Optimization of sound and tactile features in circle box learning media

    This study explores the conceptual understanding of visually impaired students regarding circle elements using a learning tool called the Circle Box, which incorporates auditory and tactile features to help students identify circle elements and facilitate subsequent learning. A qualitative naturalistic approach was employed, involving five 8th-grade visually impaired students and two mathematics teachers at a special school in Cimahi. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and a test adapted from Adding It Up: Helping Children Learn Mathematics by the National Research Council. Data were analyzed through reduction, descriptive presentation, verification, and conclusion. The results show that most students successfully identified circle elements and understood key relationships, though challenges remain in verbal explanations and generalizations involving unfamiliar vocabulary. Factors such as age, gender, and the level of visual impairment influence understanding, impacting memorization and confidence. Recommendations for improvements emphasize sound quality, simplified language, and enhanced tactile designs for better usability and learning efficiency

    Pelatihan public speaking untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berkomunikasi pada siswa SMKN 2 garut

    Latar belakang pelatihan ini adalah bahwa komunikasi yang efektif sangat penting untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa untuk berkembang dan berkontribusi pada perkembangan masyarakat. Namun, siswa SMKN 2 Garut masih kesulitan berkomunikasi dengan baik. Tujuan dari pelatihan ini adalah agar siswa SMKN 2 Garut memiliki kemampuan berkomunikasi yang lebih baik. Metode pelaksanaan pengabdian adalah pelatihan yang diberikan melalui permainan peran, diskusi grup, dan presentasi. Pelatihan berlangsung selama satu hari. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berkomunikasi siswa SMKN 2 Garut meningkat secara signifikan.  Siswa dapat memperoleh kemampuan problem-solving, presentasi, dan komunikasi yang efektif. Seperti yang ditunjukkan dalam diskusi, pelatihan berbicara di depan umum memiliki potensi untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berkomunikasi siswa SMKN 2 Garut selain membantu mereka berkembang secara pribadi dan berkontribusi pada perkembangan masyarakat. Oleh karena itu, pelatih memutuskan bahwa pelatihan berbicara di depan umum dapat menjadi salah satu metode yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berkomunikasi siswa SMKN 2 Garut. Dengan demikian, pelatihan ini dapat digunakan oleh guru, siswa, dan masyarakat lainnya untuk meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi siswa SMKN 2 Garut

    Exploring the Challenges Faced by Students in Learning Writing Recount Text Using Discovery Learning through Short Videos

    The study aims to explore the challenges faced by the tenth-grade students in learning to write a recount text through discovery learning using short video. The study used a descriptive qualitative method approach. Hence, the researcher collected the data by using interviews, observations, and document analysis. And then, the participants who participated in this study were 17 students of a senior high school located in Bandung. After gathering the data, the researcher then analyzed and coded them to make interpretations about the findings. The result revealed that the challenges faced by the students in creating a recount text include limited English proficiency. Additionally, it is recommended for further research to explore other areas like factors that may influence the effectiveness of using discovery learning through short videos in teaching writing recount text
