Processing Academic Article Information for Predicting the Quality of Academic Journals
The main method of corresponding scientific ideas and results is to publish articles. The number of scientific journals has been growing rapidly in recent years. All journals are not of the same quality and standard. There are even predatory journals that aim at earn-ing through publication fees paid by the authors. All of this has made it necessary to rank scientific publication forums according to their quality and selectiveness. There is also a Finnish ranking system known as JUFO (julkaisufoorumi).
On the other hand, there are several open electronic libraries available that record in-formation of published articles. Well known examples of such libraries include Google scholar, Semantic scholar, and Digital Bibliography and Library Project (DBLP). The last library is concentrated particularly on computer science publications. Also scientific publishers maintain their own repositories of articles published in their books, journals, and collections. Well known examples include Springer and Elsevier as well as more computing related Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and Institute of Elec-trical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
Full article texts of publications that are proprietary to commercial publishers are not usually openly available. Electronic libraries gather all basic information like author names, article title, publication year, and so forth. Sometimes also the abstract of the paper is publicly available. In particular, publishing houses are willing to divulge this information.
It is a natural idea to connect electronic libraries and publication ranking sites together and try to learn to rank journals automatically. This is the setting of this work. This work aims at implementing a program that is able to collect a comprehensive data set consisting of article information and the ranking given for the journal. We concentrate on the DBLP library and JUFO ranking. As a second contribution we validate the feasi-bility of the proposed approach by applying a couple of machine learning algorithms from the WEKA collection to the data set collected. The experiments show that quite high prediction accuracies can be achieved by using the information gathered from the abstracts of the articles
Middleware "Chili" to ease programming of Pepper robot
Tavoitteena on tehdä Chilistä korkean abstraktiotason työkalu, jolla selkeytetään robotin ohjelmointityötä.
Liquid penetration in food service boards
Raw edge penetration is a phenomenon where liquid is able to penetrate into the structure of paperboard through the raw edge. The objective of this thesis is to research the edge penetration phenomenon during the food service board making process. Another aim is to find proper test methods to measure edge penetration.
The literature part focus on the phenomenon and the factors which effect on edge wicking. The structure of paperboard, the edge penetration and the sizing state were studied in the experimental part. Sampling was executed in five stages of paperboard manufacturing and converting process in order to study the development of paperboard through the process. The same measurements were also made later to see the effect of time.
Development of internal sizing was discovered to have an effect on cold edge penetration test results. The best results were achieved after five weeks. The results of the tests can be determined both by visually measuring the penetration length or by calculating the changes in masses. The calculation is objective and therefore more useful method. Hot edge penetration was measured with two different tests, whose biggest difference was the cutting direction of samples. As an outcome of the study the samples should be cut so that the longer edge of sample is in machine direction
Innovaatioiden hallinta projekteihin keskittyneissä organisaatioissa
Innovations have become an important way to gain competitive edge and therefore have an increasing effect on companies’ strategies. Innovation projects need structures, project management tools and decision-making models, i.e. project governance, to ensure the value creation of projects, programs and portfolios. The subject needs further addressing so that best practices in governing innovation in project-based organizations can be created. This research aims to understand what kind of governance mechanisms two different project-based organizations use and how the governance mechanisms could be improved to improve also the organization’s innovation capabilities.
In this research, a qualitative multiple case study was applied in two Finnish project-based organizations. The data was collected by semi-structured interviews. The interviewees represented different roles related to new product development and innovation functions in the case companies so that a comprehensive picture of the current governance mechanisms used could be obtained. The data from case companies was analyzed first case-specifically, and a cross-case comparison was made between the companies. The main challenges in innovation governance were highlighted.
The study reveals the importance of project governance also in innovation context. Well-defined governance structures support the decision-making and management of innovation projects, programs and portfolios. Well-defined roles and responsibilities also help in steering the projects. The base of all innovation activities in an organization is an innovation strategy that is communicated all the way to project level so that the project goals are aligned with the strategy. That way everyone in the organization can commit to innovation initiatives.
The results of this study can be used in project-based organizations to support the constructing or redefining of innovation project governance in an organization. A checklist enables detecting the relevant topics related to innovation project governance. The results offer several topics for future research. Innovation governance in different sized companies requires further research as well as the role of different actors and decision-makers affecting the governance and the efficiency of innovation projects
Parametrinen tarkastelu levyrakenteille terässauvojen nurjahdustuentana
In this thesis, support against lateral elastic buckling of steel members is examined using trapezoidal sheeting and faced sandwich panels. The main issue is to study, what kind of members can be supported with different stiffening solutions and how various parameters affect the usability of the solutions.
The thesis presents theories for calculating elastic buckling length and connector forces. Buckling length of members supported by trapezoidal sheeting are calculated with Winkler foundation theory and connector forces are calculated with method from standard SFS-EN 1993-1-1. For members supported by sandwich panels, elastic buckling lengths and connector forces can be calculated with theory presented by Eva Hedman-Pétursson in her doctoral thesis. In this thesis, theory is presented also for different boundary conditions than simply supported beam.
In the parametric study, different supporting solutions and related variables are examined. The results are presented for members with different lengths as a maximum normal force the member can resist before buckling resistance or shear resistance of connector gives utilization ratio one. The main variables affecting the axial force resistance of supported members are the buckling resistance of unsupported member, stiffness of connections and shear resistance of connections
Information needs in real estate consulting firm
Kiinteistöalan erityispiirteistä johtuen markkinatietoa on hyvin huonosti saatavilla, jolloin kiinteistöalan analyytikoiden tuottamat arviot kiinteistömarkkinasta ovat tärkeässä osassa markkinoiden toimintaa. Toisaalta analyytikot tarvitsevat näiden arvioiden tuottamiseen tietoa kiinteistömarkkinasta, jota on vaikeasti saatavilla. Kiinteistöalalla on muutamia tunnuslukuja, kuten vuokramarkkinatasot, joiden avulla voidaan tarkastella kiinteistömarkkinoiden tilannetta.
Adoption of microservices in industrial information systems: a systematic literature review
The internet, digitalization and globalization have transformed customer expectations and the way business is done. Product life cycles have shortened, products need to be customizable, and the production needs to be scalable. These changes reflect also to the industrial operations. Quick technological advancements have increased the role of software in industrial facilities. The software in use has to enable untraditional flexibility, interoperability and scalability.
Microservices based architecture has been seen as the state of the art way for developing flexible, interoperable and scalable software. Microservices have been applied to cloud native applications for consumers with enormous success. The goal of this thesis is to analyze how to adopt microservices to indstrial information systems. General information and characteristics of microservices are provided as background information and a systematic literature review is conducted to answer the research problem. Material for the systematic literature review was found from multiple digital libraries and 17 scientific papers matched the set inclusion cirteria. The material was then analyzed with an extensively documentated method.
The thesis brought together the available publications on the topic. Guidelines for adopting microservices to industrial information systems were derived based on the analysis. Real time applications need special attention when using microservices architecture, the developers need to use proper tools for the tasks, and the developers and users need to be properly introduced to service-oriented systems. Based on this thesis microservices seems like a suitable approach for developing flexible industrial information systems, which satisfy the new business requirements
Ontology-Based Mobile Interface Adaptation for Monitoring Collaborative Supply Network Assets.
Collaboration has been an essential part of Supply Chain Network because of involvements of different users at different level of the network. Communication and information exchange between buyers and sellers and transportation agents are considered as few of the main steps of collaboration in supply networks. Thus, an interface for all such communication and information exchange with quick response and monitoring of different stages of supply chain processes becomes a prime requirement in modern supply chain markets. An advanced management system for collaborative supply networks is the current demand of the market and this can bring competitiveness and free flow of information throughout the networks. One of the main focuses of such management system would be an advanced monitoring system of the Collaboration processes and stages of supply networks. This thesis focuses on research about the development of a simple mobile tool for monitoring collaborative Supply Networks and its assets.
Advanced computational ability and enhanced data processing with in different web and mobile applications are gaining popularity in recent times which also increased the requirement of a dynamic atmosphere for the processing and computation of these data. Interactions of static types are designed in such a way that they are not always capable of handling big and complex data. This is because of the non-deterministic perspectives of pervasive computing environments. Adaptive user interfaces are commonly used in different software systems and popular for enhancing the performance of the users by taking care of general user context variables of the original systems such as user-context and user environment. This thesis work also emphasized on implementation of adaptive interfaces that can be used for collaborative Supply networks. The research work extended up to the possibility of adaptation of collaboration processes by modifying simple variables based on user context.
This thesis research work aimed to design an ontology for collaborative supply network and implementation of user modeling with collaborative supply network model. The idea of using ontology with mobile tools is to apply different semantic rules in the collaborative supply network, which will help it to work more efficiently and help in adaptation in different level
Structural design and dimensioning of heavily loaded ground-supported reinforced concrete slabs
Tarkoituksena oli tutkia mitä rakennesuunnittelijan täytyisi huomioida laatiessaan suunnitelmiaan laskelmineen raskaasti kuormitetuista maanvaraisista teräsbetonilaatoista. Erityisesti haluttiin selvittää mm. maaperätietojen vaikutukset lopputulokseen. Tutkimuksesta rajattiin pois mm. laatan käyttäytyminen liikuntasaumoissa ja liikuntasaumojen kuormanjako.
Pienet virheet alustaluvussa eivät juuri vaikuta lopputulokseen. Laatan alusrakenteet kantavuusarvoineen tulee siitä huolimatta arvioida mahdollisimman tarkoin. Keskeinen raudoitemäärään vaikuttava asia on kutistumasaumojen määrä.
Raskaasti kuormitettu maanvarainen laatta on pääsääntöisesti kantava rakenne. Jos rakenteen vauriosta on vaaraa henkilöturvallisuudelle, niin suunnittelussa tulee soveltaa ympäristöministeriön asetuksia kantavista rakenteista. Esimerkiksi hyllyjen pystyssä pysyminen on käyttöturvallisuuden kannalta oleellista. The main purpose of this thesis was to investigate what would be the most important things to the structural engineers while designing heavily loaded ground supported reinforced concrete slabs. Especially we wanted to find out what kind of effects are with soil data to the results, for example. We decided to exclude behavior of the slab on ex-pansion joints and joints’ load distribution.
Small mistakes with modulus of subgrade aren’t really affect to the results. Despite of that you have to estimate as close as possible the substructures and their modulus of subgrades. The number of expansion joints are essential concerning the amount of reinforcing. Small frequent of joints reduces the forces like shrinkage but they impair usability. With great frequent of joints, the amount of reinforcing increases if the forces from shrinkage are considered. There need to be small friction between slab and subgrade if it is wanted to centralize the shrinkage to the joints. There can be rough subgrade below the slab if there are no need for sliding property.
The heavily loaded ground supported slab is usually need to be considered as a load bearing structure. If the damage of the structure causes any danger to operational safety, you have to use the regulations given by Ministry of the Environment. For example, keeping the shelves upright is essential for operational safety
Human Robot Collaboration in Assembly Processes
Human robot collaboration (HRC) in assembly processes, is a concept which aims to integrate the human workforce with the robots in a shared workspace. This is carried out to complement the human workforce to achieve key manufacturing metrics e.g. efficiency, ergonomics, etc. Assembly of the switch module (DIN rail components’ assembly) was taken to be the product under investigation. Design of human robot collaborative assembly process was explored while considering the following objectives and knowledge areas: Design for Assembly (DFA) methodology, rules for task assignment between the human worker and the robot, Identification and mitigation of process hazards, and trainable collaborative setups. A total of five DFA axioms were found to be relevant for the design of human robot collaborative assembly process. Task Assignments between the human and the robot was explored while considering the following objectives: Optimal assembly cycle times and workspace ergonomics. Three out of four phases of assembly process offered room for collaborative endeavors. The task assignments during these assembly phases ensured optimal cycle times and work space ergonomics. Risk assessment along with risk mitigation strategies were evaluated on the basis of ISO 12100. Hand guided frame teaching methodology was used to train the collaborative setup. This enabled an operator friendly/oriented approach towards the design and implementation of collaborative assembly tasks. The obtained results ensured a reliable and industry scalable implementation of human robot collaborative assembly process
