Adding Negation to Lambda Mu
We present , an extension of Parigot's -calculus byadding negation as a type constructor, together with syntactic constructs thatrepresent negation introduction and elimination. We will define a notion ofreduction that extends 's reduction system with two new reductionrules, and show that the system satisfies subject reduction. Using Aczel'sgeneralisation of Tait and Martin-L\"of's notion of parallel reduction, we showthat this extended reduction is confluent. Although the notion of typeassignment has its limitations with respect to representation of proofs innatural deduction with implication and negation, we will show that allpropositions that can be shown in there have a witness in . UsingGirard's approach of reducibility candidates, we show that all typeable termsare strongly normalisable, and conclude the paper by showing that typeassignment for enjoys the principal typing property
Solvable Leibniz superalgebras whose nilradical has the characteristic sequence and nilindex
Leibniz superalgebras with nilindex and characteristic sequence divided into four parametric classes that contain a set ofnon-isomorphic superalgebras. In this paper, we give a complete classificationof solvable Leibniz superalgebras whose nilradical is a nilpotent Leibnizsuperalgebra with nilindex and characteristic sequence (n-1, 1 \ | \m). We obtain a condition for the value of parameters of the classes of suchnilpotent superalgebras for which they have a solvable extension. Moreover, theclassification of solvable Leibniz superalgebras whose nilradical is a Liesuperalgebra with the maximal nilindex is given
The process of writing history in Moldova, as in many ex-Soviet countries, is still a source of political conflict on a memorial background. This difficult context presumes the use of sources as a factor of impartiality. However, the picture becomes clouded if the document also participates in differences of opinions that confuse past and present. The history of communism is marked by the Party’s desire to control the dissemination of information, both in the short and long term. Thus, Moldova inherited the Bessarabian archives, the focus of the particularism of Romanian and Soviet communism in the interwar period. As is customary in countries with a communist past, the post-1989-1991 period is representative of slow and complex change. On that account, the Archives of the Party of the RSSM became the Archives of the socio-political organizations of the Republic of Moldova (AOSPRM) in an almost identical image to the Russian archives RGASPI. For to multiple reasons, it is complicated for historians researching Romanian or transnational communism to work on this type of document, and access to the archives remains difficult. Although located in the city center of the capital, the premises keep several marks of the Soviet heritage, which renders the consultation problematic, especially for foreign visitors. The archival funds are also difficult to access because of the bureaucratic formulation of requests. Moreover, the funds have kept the communist inventory of documents, as a result of the ideological policy of the Stalin period.
Whittaker John, 1997, “Here Come the Anthros. What Good is an Archaeologist?” in Andelson Jon (dir.), Anthropology Matters: Essays in Honor of Ralph A. Luebben, Grinnell College, Grinnell, p. 101-108.Starting with a song denouncing anthropologists and prehistorians as disrespectful of the cultures they study, the article reflects on the relationship between lost cultures and their scientific study, drawing on the author’s personal experience. It then examines NAGPRA, the federal “Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act”, which in 1990 gave Native American communities extensive rights over various cultural properties and archaeological sites.
While the actors of cultural renaissances in French Polynesia do not hesitate to mobilize historical, archeological or anthropological research work as means of knowing the precolonial past, the scientific field, especially the French-speaking researchers, continue to overlook and discredit this cultural enunciation. The historicity of the practices and the aims pursued within the framework of these renaissances are thus questioned, revealing the still decisive influence of a theory that has nevertheless been undermined elsewhere in the Pacific: the invention of tradition.
Considering the colonial heritage and the other forms of domination makes it necessary to take a critical approach to the positions of authority on which scientific discourse is based. What would be the conditions for the possibility of knowledge giving access to alternative forms of knowledge and discourse about the world? Does not every approach bring its own biases in the project of universal knowledge? The reflection is based on an ethnographic survey (Wallis) and the current debate on the restitution of African museum collections by former colonial countries.
Causal Unfoldings and Disjunctive Causes
In the simplest form of event structure, a prime event structure, an event isassociated with a unique causal history, its prime cause. However, it is quitecommon for an event to have disjunctive causes in that it can be enabled by anyone of multiple sets of causes. Sometimes the sets of causes may be mutuallyexclusive, inconsistent one with another, and sometimes not, in which case theycoexist consistently and constitute parallel causes of the event. Theestablished model of general event structures can model parallel causes. Onoccasion however such a model abstracts too far away from the precise causalhistories of events to be directly useful. For example, sometimes one needs toassociate probabilities with different, possibly coexisting, causal historiesof a common event. Ideally, the causal histories of a general event structurewould correspond to the configurations of its causal unfolding to a prime eventstructure; and the causal unfolding would arise as a right adjoint to theembedding of prime in general event structures. But there is no suchadjunction. However, a slight extension of prime event structures remedies thisdefect and provides a causal unfolding as a universal construction. Prime eventstructures are extended with an equivalence relation in order to dissociate thetwo roles, that of an event and its enabling; in effect, prime causes arelabelled by a disjunctive event, an equivalence class of its prime causes. Withthis enrichment a suitable causal unfolding appears as a pseudo right adjoint. The adjunction relies critically on the central and subtle notion of extremalcausal realisation as an embodiment of causal history. Finally, we exploresubcategories which support parallel causes as well the key operations neededin developing probabilistic distributed strategies with parallel causes.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1607.0374
Multidimensional integer trigonometry
This paper is dedicated to providing an introduction into multidimensionalinteger trigonometry. We start with an exposition of integer trigonometry intwo dimensions, which was introduced in 2008, and use this to generalise theseinteger trigonometric functions to arbitrary dimension. We then move on tostudy the basic properties of integer trigonometric functions. We find integertrigonometric relations for transpose and adjacent simplicial cones, and forthe cones which generate the same simplices. Additionally, we discuss therelationship between integer trigonometry, the Euclidean algorithm, andcontinued fractions. Finally, we use adjacent and transpose cones to introducea notion of best approximations of simplicial cones. In two dimensions, thisnotion of best approximation coincides with the classical notion of the bestapproximations of real numbers.Comment: 24 pages, 12 illustration
Analyzing today geometry on architectural heritage between mathematics and representation to define architect's background
We present and analyze an example of activity aiming at introducing graphical language and standards to students of the first year bachelor's in architecture. Our example concerns the 2D representation of an architectural object, an essential competency in the architect's profession, and specifically deals with roofing systems made up of vaults generated by cylinders and their intersections. It is a first attempt to create activities that involve all students regardless of their different levels of geometric understanding and of familiarity with graphic language; in particular, this example exploits the introduction of physical or virtual models to support the mathematical thinking of students in completing the task and takes place during regular lesson times, without modifying or adding mathematical subject contents. Research literature on mathematical modeling, in particular on the so-called prescriptive one, provides us tools to frame and implement our study case; it also allows presenting mathematical modeling as a goal in an extra-mathematical educational context.
