LNL polycategories and doctrines of linear logic
We define and study LNL polycategories, which abstract the judgmentalstructure of classical linear logic with exponentials. Many existing structurescan be represented as LNL polycategories, including LNL adjunctions, linearexponential comonads, LNL multicategories, IL-indexed categories, linearlydistributive categories with storage, commutative and strong monads,CBPV-structures, models of polarized calculi, Freyd-categories, and skewmulticategories, as well as ordinary cartesian, symmetric, and planarmulticategories and monoidal categories, symmetric polycategories, and linearlydistributive and *-autonomous categories. To study such classes of structuresuniformly, we define a notion of LNL doctrine, such that each of these classesof structures can be identified with the algebras for some such doctrine. Weshow that free algebras for LNL doctrines can be presented by a sequentcalculus, and that every morphism of doctrines induces an adjunction betweentheir 2-categories of algebras
Revealing systematic errors in hole drilling measurements through a calibration bench: the case of zero-depth data
An accurate estimation of the measurement error in the hole drilling method is needed to choose an appropriate level of regularization and to perform a sensitivity analysis on the stress results. The latest release of ASTM E837 standard for the hole drilling method includes a procedure aimed at estimatingthe standard deviation of the random error component on strain measurements, proposed by Schajer. Nevertheless, strain measurements are also affected to some extent by systematic errors which are not included in the estimation and need to be compensated. For example, an error in the rosette gage factor orin the identification of the zero-depth datum systematically affects all strain measurements in a strongly correlated fashion. This paper describes a calibration bench, designed to superimpose a reference bending stress distribution on a given specimen while simultaneously performing a hole drilling measurement.Since the reference solution is known a priori and shares the measurement instrumentation, the hole geometry and the stepping process with the actual residual stress distribution, the bench provides the user with a direct validation of the obtained accuracy. In addition, strategies aimed at compensating systematicerrors can be tested on the reference solution and then applied on the residual stress evaluation. The imperfect hole geometry and drilling alignment are proven to cause a significant underestimation of stresses near the surface, as they lead to an incorrect identification of the zero-depth datum. It is shown that this effect can be corrected through the proposed calibration bench

Locality and Centrality: The Variety ZG
We study the variety ZG of monoids where the elements that belong to a groupare central, i.e., commute with all other elements. We show that ZG is local,that is, the semidirect product ZG * D of ZG by definite semigroups is equal toLZG, the variety of semigroups where all local monoids are in ZG. Our mainresult is thus: ZG * D = LZG. We prove this result using Straubing's delaytheorem, by considering paths in the category of idempotents. In the process,we obtain the characterization ZG = MNil \vee Com, and also characterize the ZGlanguages, i.e., the languages whose syntactic monoid is in ZG: they areprecisely the languages that are finite unions of disjoint shuffles ofsingleton languages and regular commutative languages
Finding Cut-Offs in Leaderless Rendez-Vous Protocols is Easy
In rendez-vous protocols an arbitrarily large number of indistinguishablefinite-state agents interact in pairs. The cut-off problem asks if there existsa number such that all initial configurations of the protocol with at least agents in a given initial state can reach a final configuration with allagents in a given final state. In a recent paper (Horn and Sangnier, CONCUR2020), Horn and Sangnier proved that the cut-off problem is decidable (and atleast as hard as the Petri net reachability problem) for protocols with aleader, and in EXPSPACE for leaderless protocols. Further, for the specialclass of symmetric protocols they reduce these bounds to PSPACE and NP,respectively. The problem of lowering these upper bounds or finding matchinglower bounds was left open. We show that the cut-off problem is P-complete forleaderless protocols and in NC for leaderless symmetric protocols. Further, wealso consider a variant of the cut-off problem suggested in (Horn and Sangnier,CONCUR 2020), which we call the bounded-loss cut-off problem and prove thatthis problem is P-complete for leaderless protocols and NL-complete forleaderless symmetric protocols. Finally, by reusing some of the techniquesapplied for the analysis of leaderless protocols, we show that the cut-offproblem for symmetric protocols with a leader is NP-complete, thereby improvingupon all the elementary upper bounds of (Horn and Sangnier, CONCUR 2020)
The Impact of Incumbent/Opposition Status and Ideological Similitude on Emotions in Political Manifestos
The study involved the analysis of emotion-associated language in the UKConservative and Labour party general election manifestos between 2000 to 2019.While previous research have shown a general correlation between ideologicalpositioning and overlap of public policies, there are still conflicting resultsin matters of sentiments in such manifestos. Using new data, we present howvalence level can be swayed by party status within government with incumbentparties presenting a higher frequency in positive emotion-associated wordswhile negative emotion-associated words are more prevalent in oppositionparties. We also demonstrate that parties with ideological similitude usepositive language prominently further adding to the literature on therelationship between sentiments and party status.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures, 1 appendi
Semantics of multimodal adjoint type theory
We show that contrary to appearances, Multimodal Type Theory (MTT) over a2-category M can be interpreted in any M-shaped diagram of categories having,and functors preserving, M-sized limits, without the need for extra leftadjoints. This is achieved by a construction called "co-dextrification" thatco-freely adds left adjoints to any such diagram, which can then be used tointerpret the "context lock" functors of MTT. Furthermore, if any of thefunctors in the diagram have right adjoints, these can also be internalized intype theory as negative modalities in the style of FitchTT. We introduce thename Multimodal Adjoint Type Theory (MATT) for the resulting combined generalmodal type theory.
