Power Supply Small And Medium Scale Enterprise In Rivers State Nigeria

    No full text
Medium and small businesses in Rivers State, Nigeria, had their power consumption and productivity analysed in this research. Power supply indicators are used as explanatory factors in the models, whereas performance indices are used as dependent variables. Three research questions and hypotheses were developed by the researcher to get the necessary information from the respondents. The study was then carried out based on these. For this study, researchers opted for a survey approach. The majority of the data came from surveys that were both well-structured and selected using Cochrane sampling methods. The data was analysed using the discrete response approach and the logistic model. Results showed that SMEs\u27 storage of goods, productivity, and revenue were all negatively impacted by the short duration of the public power supply. Therefore, in order to boost productivity, profitability, and job creation in the state of Rivers, the research suggests that more electric power should be directed to the industrial region of Port Harcourt, particularly during the day

Understanding the Meaning of Meaning: Origin, Concepts, and Methodological Approaches to Hermeneutics

    Get PDF
This paper intends to present the origin, concepts, and methodological approaches in the study of hermeneutics – semantics, semiotics, logical analysis, ontology, and phenomenology – in order to explain the workings of language in human experience. The question of being is the most important question in the whole of philosophy. In parallel, the question of meaning is the most fundamental when it comes to hermeneutics. The research aims to respond to the question of being by means of understanding language. To be able to answer this question, the paper will elaborate the philosophy of language of Ferdinand de Saussure, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Edmund Husserl, and his successor at Freiburg, Martin Heidegger. Hans-Georg Gadamer found a way of explicating hermeneutics in which he asserts that truth is beyond method. Paul Ricoeur grafts this assertion to phenomenology through the narrative theory. This paper argues that there is no singular method of understanding the meaning of meaning because the truth makes itself manifest in its different ways of unfolding

    Get PDF
This study examined the impact of Development Bank Credit Financing (DBCF) on the performance of small and medium enterprises, employment generation growth, financial asset growth and profit growth in Nigeria. A survey research design was employed; 398 SMEs were randomly selected from the beneficiaries of DBCF loans. Descriptive analysis was conducted, and binary logistic regression was employed to examine the impact of DBFC on SMEs. The result showed that the DBCF Amount of Credit Loan Received (ACLR) positively impacted the growth of SMEs, given their beta coefficients of 0.510 and 0.765, respectively. Their respective p-values and Wald statistics of 0.001, 0.001 and 14.050, 13.486 show their significance level. However, it was discovered that there is no significant impact of DBCF on the profit growth of SMEs in Nigeria. The average monthly tax payment (AVMTL) made by the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) was established to negatively impact on SMEs profit. The coefficient (β) = - 1.004 (100.4%) showed that a unit change in the AVMTL while holding other variables constant led to about 1.004 unit decline in the logit, SMEs profit. Specifically, it means MSMEs profit will decrease by the exact amount of what is paid as tax

The Factors of the Fall of the Republic Government and Political Crisis in Afghanistan: A Survey of Public Attitudes

    Get PDF
Afghanistan, a nation marked by longitudinal internal conflict and a field of rivalry among global and regional powers for many decades, grapples with a deeply intricate and multifaceted political predicament. This complexity arises from a duality of issues: the pervasive intra-ethnic and intra-group tensions within Afghanistan and the intricate interplay of neighbouring states, regional dynamics, and global interests that have transformed the country into a quagmire of conflict and terrorism. This research adopts a quantitative, applied research approach utilizing questionnaires as its primary data collection method. Its core objective is to systematically investigate and unearth the underlying causes contributing to the collapse of the Afghan republic. The research reveals that ethnic politics have dominated Afghanistan, exerting substantial, irreparable damage upon the democratic framework. This dominance manifests through ethnic-centric political manoeuvres that undermine the democratic system’s foundations. The downfall of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan can be attributed to a multitude of factors, including widespread administrative and financial corruption, the managerial inadequacies of top-tier officials, the monopolization of power, ethnocentrism and discriminatory practices, political dependency on foreign nations, the self-interest and ambitions of political leaders, the dearth of rule of law, economic reliance on foreign entities, a conspicuous absence of merit-based governance, a crisis of political legitimacy, and the inefficacy of the judiciary. Ultimately, the republic’s governance disintegrated when President Ashraf Ghani fled Afghanistan, facilitating the scaling of the Taliban to power

Exploring Higher Secondary EFL Teachers\u27 Perceptions of Critical Thinking and Its Development: A Critical Reflection

    Get PDF
It is widely recognized that developing critical thinking skills promotes higher levels of language proficiency and academic success. However, teachers’ perceptions of critical thinking have a significant impact on pedagogical practices, students’ learning, and achievement; therefore, a meticulous understanding of teachers’ perceptions is the prerequisite for the enhancement and effective implementation of critical thinking skills. Against this background, this exploratory study uses a constructivist approach to employ semi structured interviews with 12 EFL teachers at the higher secondary level in Bangladesh to address the research gap in understanding EFL teachers’ perceptions of critical thinking and its practice. The findings revealed that teachers’ knowledge of critical thinking is limited and fragmented, and there is a gap between their perception and the generically recognized concept of critical thinking. This suggests that there is a need to develop teachers’ content knowledge and pedagogical knowledge to promote critical thinking skills in EFL classrooms at higher secondary levels

    Get PDF
The aim of this study is to develop a teaching technique or pedagogical model that allows the teacher to clearly demonstrate his/her compatibility to organize and direct their learners in a pedagogical model in which the student is at the center of learning, enjoys while learning, and a pedagogical approach through which important cognitive and democratic skills are acquired. The Coloured Street Microphone technique, as a form, was developed by being inspired by the performance of the reporters who took to the streets to get people\u27s opinions on a certain subject, but it was built on the philosophical thinking structure of the teaching techniques (Six Hats Thinking Technique, Six Shoe Application Technique, Buzz Technique, Aquarium Technique) that make the student active in the learning process as logic. The technique consists of five stages: sharing the activity rules, yellow microphone stage, red microphone stage, blue microphone stage and general evaluation. The functionality of this technique has been tried to be demonstrated with an educational case study
