    Get PDF
The search for always providing the best environment for its employees and students, allowed a university to open its doors for an evaluation regarding issues of health and safety at work, a very controversial topic, which leads many companies to close their doors and not accept this kind of "invasion" in your privacy. In this assessment, it can be seen that it is a favorable working environment for users, as their SESMT always looks for improvements and complies with the legislation, but there were also points to improve

    No full text
Background: During the Covid -19 lockdown, the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Balamand adopted the Webex platform to deliver the lectures live for the students. All lectures were also recorded and posted. This study compares the results of students who attended the live online lectures with those who only reviewed the recordings of the lectures, taking the previous year’s rank into consideration. Method: We retrieved attendance data of Med 2 students and their grades for 7 modules. We also had access to the previous year’s rank as predictor of outcome. The students had two types of exams, the standardized NBME questions and in-house questions prepared by the lecturers. The students rank from the previous year was used to divide the students into the top 20%of the class, the lower 20% and the rest. Analysis to assess the impact of attendance on outcome was made for the two types of exams, and for the different groups of students. Results: Our analysis shows a significant correlation between the two types of questions, and a significant correlation between attendance and the previous years’ rank. Also for all the groups, attendance had a significant contribution to the outcome, more significant among the top students and the bottom of the class students. Conclusion: This study shows the importance of attending lectures even if they are online, not only for the poor performing students but also for the top 20%. Recorded lectures may be a beneficial adjunct but not a replacement of live lectures, at least for now

A Changes In Hormonal Response Caused By Different Types Of Physical Exercise: A Literature Review

    No full text
The regular practice of physical exercises brings benefits to health, as long as it is done correctly. Therefore, it is essential to know the type of activity practiced and its relationship with the individual\u27s organism, especially regarding the endocrine response. The objective of this study was to investigate the main hormonal axes that act in physical exercises and to understand their different responses according to the type of activity. A literature search was carried out in the Scielo, PubMed, and VHL databases with the combinations "exercise AND hormones", "sports AND endocrine", "endocrine regulation AND exercise", and "endocrine regulation". After analysis, seven studies were selected for the development of this paper. The physical exercises were divided into two modalities - strength and endurance - which vary according to the homeostatic change imposed on the body. The responses were analyzed according to the acting hormonal axis, as follows: hypophysary, by the action of a hormonal cascade; adrenal, catecholamines and cortisol; and pancreatic, represented by insulin and glucagon. This review revealed the modulation of endocrine responses varies whether the activity is one of strength, which relates to anaerobic processes, or endurance, which interacts with the cardiovascular system. Therefore, it is recommended that further studies be conducted on this subject so that the practice of physical exercises suits each individual\u27s uniqueness and may contribute to the prevention and treatment of diseases

The purpose of this study is to explore how the combined influence of intrinsic motivation and extrinsic one on the engagement about behavioral, emotional, and cognitive of university students to bring academic achievements. To do this, an experimental questionnaire is designed to collect data from Vietnamese students in Danang and employed Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to estimate the relationships among proposed variables. The results from 393 samples indicated that intrinsic motivation is the crucial element stimulating their efforts and engagement to obtain learning success. In contrast, extrinsic motivation is found to not bring a positive influence on the cognitive engagement of students. Therefore, this is an important research result that contributes to the theoretical foundation of student engagement as well as makes sense for the management of higher educatio

    Get PDF
Introduction:  violence against women is a complex worldwide health problem due to its multicausality.  Global background alterations resulting from Corona Virus (Sars-Cov 2) pandemic implicated on the exacerbation of many vulnerabilities, including those that predispose domestic violence.  Nowadays this kind of violence is even more intense and reaches significant national and worldwide morbimortality proportions among women. Objectives:  to synthetize data described in the literature regarding how the Covid-19 pandemic and social isolation process have affected women lives concerning domestic violence. Methodology:  integrative literature review, using a high sensitivity search in the databases Pubmed, Cochrane, Embase and the Virtual Library of Health (VLH) on Dec 07 2020.  Ten studies were included in this review. Results:  90% of the studies analyzed presented an increase in intensity and frequency of violence against women after the beginning of social distancing policies.  Women that had already suffered any kind of violence before the beginning of the isolation policies are more propense to physical violence during reclusion.  Pandemic reduced contact of these women with their informal support network and with health services, culminating in the enhancement of the gravity of cases that are assisted by the system. Conclusion:  women are a highly vulnerable population to violence during the pandemic period.  Public policies that qualify professionals and facilitate prevention, tracking and intervention of cases are even more necessary

Biofloc research commenced in the late 1970s, with the white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei and the Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus the most commonly studied species. The present study evaluated M. rosenbergii cultures in recirculation and biofloc systems by comparing the water quality and productive performance of juveniles in both systems. The study was based on a simple randomized experimental design with a recirculation and biofloc treatment, each conducted in triplicate. The initial length and weight of the organisms was 1.04 cm and 0.31 g (recirculation) and 1 cm and 0.30 g (biofloc), respectively, while the bioassay, which lasted nine weeks, was undertaken in a salinity of 5 ppm with a natural photoperiod (12:12). The present study monitored basic variables corresponding to the water, survival, growth (in weight), and the composition of the plankton. The basic variables of the water (temperature, salinity, and pH) were kept within the recommended range for the culture. Of the plankton observed in the biofloc, nematodes, rotifers, cyanobacteria, ciliates, heliozoa, and dinoflagellates predominated. The organisms grown in the recirculation system reached 5.35 cm in length and 1.28 g in weight, while those grown in the biofloc reached 5.18 cm and 2 g, with significant differences in individual weight observed. Survival in the recirculation and biofloc systems was 73% and 60%, respectively, with significant differences observed. It is concluded that, although the survival rate was higher in the recirculation system, the weight of individual organisms was higher in the biofloc treatment

    Get PDF
The aim of the study was to evaluate the sensory acceptability of sfiha added to different levels of chayote peel flour (CPF). Also, determine the physical-chemical composition of the standard formulation and that containing the highest CPF content and with acceptance similar to the standard. Five sfiha formulations were developed: F1 (standard, 0% CPF) and the others added 2% (F2), 6% (F3), 9% (F4) and 12% (F5) of CPF. Sixty evaluators aged 7 to 10 years participated in the sensory evaluation. The addition of levels greater than 2% of CPF reduced sensory acceptability (p<0.05) of the sfiha for all attributes and for the overall acceptance and purchase intention, in relation to the standard product. Formulation F2 was the one with the highest CPF content and with acceptance similar to the standard formulation. Higher levels of moisture, ash and dietary fiber and lower levels of carbohydrate and energy were observed for F2 compared to F1. There was no significant difference (p>0.05) for protein and lipid content between the two formulations. It is concluded that an addition level of up to 2% of CPF in sfiha is well accepted by schoolchildren. In addition, the CPF improves the nutritional value of the product, especially with the increase in dietary fiber and mineral matter
