Emergency remote teaching was regulated by the National Council of Education through Decision nº5/2020, approved on April 28th 2020, in Brazil, as an alternative to cover for the absence of face-to-face teaching. The Ordinance states that remote teaching activities must be applied to students of all education levels, steps, and modalities. As such, the main objective of this study was to investigate, through a bibliographic research, what are the skills that teachers of high ability/gifted students should have in the context of remote classes. We undertook a qualitative bibliographic research by surveying material readily available for consulting on the internet, such as educational books, periodic publications, and laws pertaining to high ability/gifted students and their learning process. After sorting through this material, we conducted an analysis to discuss data and later compiled suggestions of potential methodologies that could be applied to online classrooms. Our findings emphasize that both teaching knowledge and practice must offer high ability/gifted students optimized challenges, which integrate provocative novelties and motivate the development of their abilities and the dynamicity in activities. Furthermore, they also foster the students’ autonomy, making individual interests deeper, as well as their creative, critical and research abilities. Therefore, active learning methodologies are an asset to the teaching-learning process of students with specific educational needs

The main objective of this study is to analyze of quantitative research view of literary scholars confronted with situations related to the mythology of linguistic prejudice, that is, to the myths that, according to Bagno (1999), are constructors of discriminatory behaviors before certain linguistic varieties

Educommunicative methodologies: active tools in pandemic teaching-learning

    Get PDF
This article aims to point out methodologies that can help in the remote teaching process, as well as to point out some difficulties encountered by both teachers and students. Education during social isolation has been the subject of much concern for educators, mothers, fathers and even students themselves. The pandemic took everyone by surprise and, so that education was not put to one side, educational institutions had to adapt to this new scenario and overcome the challenges imposed by the pandemic. This adaptation has not been easy for either side, be it educational institutions, educators, parents and students, as the preparation to use technologies in teaching was something instantaneous, there was no preparation time, so in a little space of time, it was necessary to discover and rediscover new methods and new ways to teach, now virtually, bringing out, mainly, creativity. This article, therefore, comes to show some aspects in relation to the current scenario, the difficulties and some options to streamline remote classes

    Get PDF
Current market conditions require organizations to understand the business environment in order to achieve strategic planning and decision-making processes. An organization\u27s competitive advantage is associated with an understanding of how to determine the potential of these companies when examining internal and external conditions (insertions) and the effort to meet customer needs. Among the many tools that contribute to this understanding, the SWOT analysis stands out, which can assist organizations to better understand the internal and external environment and formulate strategic plans in a collaborative way. This work aimed to implement an evaluation model for SWOT analysis using fuzzy inference methods. The adopted methodology started from a survey on the internal and external characteristics of the organization, definition of the linguistic criteria of the SWOT matrix, correlation between the variables found and elaboration of the fuzzy inference system for crossing the inputs. The approach proposed by the Fuzzy Inference model for the SWOT matrix proved to be simplified and efficient for a better collection of information that allows the prediction of the future environment, enabling reasoned strategies resulting from the model presented

This article aims to analyze the context of emergency of the Quilombolas Movement of Maranhão (Movimento Quilombola Maranhense - MOQUIBOM), in the middle of 2010, the politicization of identities, the processes of triggering the memory sustained on ancestrality, and territorial reconfigurations, which were provoked on quilombolas communities of Baixada Maranhense due to its geographical formation. This research is an investigation of qualitative approach with descriptive and exploratory goals made through bibliographic and documental studies. The theoretical contributions of Hall (2006), Halbwachs (1990), Raffestin (1993), Santos (1999), Sousa (2016), Araújo (2012), among others, allowed us to infer that the political fronts of MOQUIBOM act on the resignification of their identities, starting with the mobilization of their ancestrality with the intent of politicize their daily experiences, the construction of dignified conditions for social propagation, and the defense of their territories through the tensioning of the State for the assurance of public policies

Exploring University Students’ Perceptions of Plagiarism: A Focus Group Study

    Get PDF
Plagiarism is a matter of great concern to those who teach in higher education. The increase in technology has resulted in plagiarism becoming a source of anxiety for many students. Universities are continually being called upon to devote more time and resources to combating plagiarism. However, what of their understanding of students’ attitudes towards and understandings of plagiarism? It is critical to understand student perceptions towards plagiarism to develop approaches to combat plagiarism. This paper reports on a focus group study that generated qualitative data on students’ perceptions of plagiarism. Informal group discussions were held with first-year students to show how plagiarism appears from the undergraduate student\u27s perspective. An interview schedule was developed to provide an overall direction for the discussion. The schedule followed a semi-structured, open-ended format to enable participants to set their agenda. The analysis revealed that students lack understanding of plagiarism, have certain assumptions about plagiarism, and have negative attitudes towards assigned tasks. This paper argues that there is merit in understanding students’ perspectives regarding plagiarism to develop successful strategies to promote academic integrity and prevent plagiarism. The paper concludes with a recommendation that lecturers at tertiary institutions need to teach explicitly plagiarism, how to avoid it, and referencing. &nbsp

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound effect on both education and research activities. A survey conducted within the geotechnical engineering and earth science academic communities between April 22 and 24 explored the variables that affect working efficiency and intellectual development during the pandemic period. We received 274 complete responses from faculty and graduate students in North America, Europe, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia. The four variables that correlate best with individuals’ perceived consequences of the pandemic are: setting daily goals, focus on academic tasks, time spent reading literature outside core research or on professional development, and commitment to exploring deeper scientific concepts. Overall, 28% of the respondents exhibit a positive outlook. For the other 72%, living with non-family members or with children, hindered access to needed materials, and excessive time spent with video entertainment exacerbated the perception of potential negative consequences of the pandemic. Observed percentages and trends are very similar across age, gender, living conditions and regardless of regional/national restrictions. Two complementary surveys addressed faculty choices for online education and student preferences. These results document the effective transition from in-person to online education using readily available technology, and highlight students’ preferences for in-person education followed by live online platforms; pre-recorded lectures emerge as the least preferable choice

There\u27s an apparent gap  as in understanding how organizations  measure  performance. This gap is due to the nature and complexityof  the Business Structure and the extent of the owner-managers who are willing to participate  in the research process. Throughout the same argument, organizations  within each link of the production chains do not have the understanding oftheir performance and how they should bemeasured. In order to investigate and ter a better understanding of the performance  of the links this research  aims to contribute to the definition of the dimmenseitieséthat are necessary to make up the mis trica of non-financial indicators for the measurementçãof the sustainability of the main andauxiliary  production chains.  Qualitative andin-depth  convergent interview techniques are adopted with 5 managers of organizations of the vitiviní cola chainandwho work at the internationallevel. After collecting and analyzing the content of the metric, we seek to continue the studies by defining the variables that will compose each dimension. It was found that the metric should be composed of the following dimensions: environmental, social, economic, cooperation and trust

    Get PDF
The Autonomous Port of Cotonou (PAC) located in West Africa has an access channel 15m deep, 11 berths, and an internal draft of 15m (maximum), and is connected with a road to serve continental countries such as Burkina-Faso, Chad , Mali, Niger and Nigeria. The PAC presents low productivity (average of 10,000,000 tons / year, 24.40% of the movement from the port of Lagos / Nigeria) in West Africa. This article aims to evaluate the application of fuzzy logic in the Autonomous Port of Cotonou (Benin) in the analysis of logistic viability. The methodology followed the fuzzy logic that is a support method for logistic decision-making, based on fuzzy rules (SBRF). It was used characteristic of Mamdani Matlab Toolbox with three membership functions (triangular, trapezoidal and Gaussian) to model the quality variables of infrastructures and services, equipment productivity, seeking a long-term way out of logistic viability. The result of logistic viability was medium term, equivalent to 13 years / 25 years; as far as the outcome of the future PAC is concerned. The logistic viability of the PAC depends on its input variables. The projection of this application was long term, at least 19 years / 25 years when the infrastructures are of good quality and the equipment is more modern and consistent with the current realities to satisfy the expectations of the customers. &nbsp

The Amazon Rainforest has a great variety of medicinal plants, among them we can highlight the “Almecegueira” or “Breu Branco” (Protium heptaphylum) in Portuguese, the producer of a greenish-white resin that hardens when it touches the air, known by its gastroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects. These effects are attributed to a triterpene mixture of α and β amirine, predominant in the resin. The purpose of the study is to obtain a cytogenetic profile to the α, β-amirine mixture obtained in the resin of P. heptaphylum. For this, the micronucleus test was used in peripheral blood and bone marrow; administering solution in Swiss mice with the dosages of 1mg/Kg, 3mg/Kg, and 10mg/Kg, diluted in 5% DMSO, the effects were observed in 24h and 48h after the treatment. For the test in peripheral blood the mice’s caudal vein was punctured, while for the bone marrow test, the femurs of the animals were obtained from which bone marrow samples were taken. It was found that in peripheral blood, the administration of the compounds did not cause genotoxicity in 24h and 48h, in contrast, antigenotoxicity was, for concentrations 1; 3 and 10mg/kg, respectively 10%; 12%; 67% in 24h and 9%; 15%; 73% in 48h.  In the bone marrow, no genotoxicity was observed, as for antigenotoxicity was observed that for concentrations 1; 3 e 10mg/kg the percentage of reduction was respectively: 11%, 15%, and 30% in 24h and 13% 16% 33% in 48h. It is concluded that the studied compound can be an alternative for treatments in the future since it presents low toxicity and high antigenotoxic potential
