    Proposition of an Innovation Center in Santa Rosa, RS, Brazil, by means of the Via Cycle Methodology

    A successful Innovation Center (IC) needs to be closely related to the territory in which it is inserted and have its functions aligned with regional development, the supply of facilities, services and resources and the promotion of culture and the innovation and entrepreneurship connection. This study aimed to develop stages of recognition and mapping of elements that underlie the implementation of an IC in the city of Santa Rosa, state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, among them the challenges related to innovation faced in the city; the personas and actors involved; the identification of solutions; the potential stakeholders partners; the proposition of an action plan; and the presentation of this plan to those involved in the process. National and international ICs were analyzed as references for the study, the main ICs of Rio Grande do Sul, the state where Santa Rosa is located were mapped, and the innovation pathway of the city was addressed. Using the Via Cycle Methodology, the interactions between the actors and stakeholders that deal with innovation were studied, the challenges faced were identified, and a solution was proposed to face the perceived challenges. For this result, strategies capable of encompassing the various actors mapped and involved in the structuring pillars of the territory (education, governance, public power, and culture) were suggested, with the intention of proposing the implementation of the IC. The breakdown of these pillars into detailed actions resulted in a significant educational, social, cultural, and economic potential, whose details can serve as references to boost innovation-oriented experiences, meet technological needs, and strengthen various dimensions

    Bibliographic review of vessel collisions on bridges:: a case study in northern Brazil

    Vessels operating in the Amazon and world fluvial navigation still face difficulties related to the lack of standardization and lack of compliance with the rules, resulting in collisions of river convoys over bridges. At the same time, there is an increase in demand for river transport over the years. Vessel collisions on bridges cause enormous socioeconomic damage to the municipalities located in the vicinity of the accident. In this sense, it is extremely important to verify the quantitative differences between various formulations of force and energy contained in the impact of vessels, found in the main international standards for bridge projects and in several studies of vessel collisions on works of art. Therefore, such formulations are applied to a case study of a convoy type sailing under the bridge of the Guamá River, in the north of Brazil

    Due to the discontinuity of support for one of the database versions most used by organizations, Oracle Database 11g, it is important that companies that still use this version, pay attention to the next upgrade from Oracle. This work was elaborated by means of exploratory research, using as methods and research techniques the documentary and bibliographic analysis, with the purpose of providing steps with techniques and methods of how to proceed with two oracle projects, one of migration from the Linux operating system Red Hat 4.4.7-3 for Oracle Linux 7.7, and a version upgrade from Oracle Database 11g to Oracle Database 19c, presenting strategies using tools and following Oracle\u27s recommendations. This study was built based on real demands that companies have been facing with this great dilemma, the discontinuity of support for the Oracle database 11g version. The observed results were, official support from Oracle, architectural change in order to be prepared for a supposed intervention with updating and migration of services to the cloud

    Non-Deterministic Computational Thinking: Challenges and Opportunities

    An educational paradigm that has improved problem-solving capacity is computational thinking, which uses characteristics such as decomposition, abstraction, pattern recognition, and algorithmic thinking. However, most of the resources developed under this paradigm are deterministic. However, the current world is not linear. Non-deterministic dynamics play a vital role in today\u27s world. Decisions about the same fact can cause different events, and students must be prepared to live with such uncertainties. This article discusses challenges and possibilities in the development of non-deterministic computational thinking resources. This work shows a large field of research yet to be worked on, with new possibilities and a great potential to connect new resources with the students\u27 daily lives

    Development of a low-cost prototype: Pitot Tube designed to measure the mass and the volumetric flow rates of fluids

    This study aims to develop a low-cost prototype to measure the mass and volumetric flow rate of fluids through the construction of a Pitot Tube. This meter must be able to measure the mass flow rate of air for different pressure values using only the water height level variation. For the development of the prototype, low-cost materials were used, in addition to some necessary tools. These experimental models are a didactic proposal for teaching and learning about the flow of fluids discipline, where it was verified that the experimental values found presented satisfactory results correlated with the theoretical concepts of an ideal fluid present in the literature. Thus, the Bernoulli and Torricelli equations were applied to assess the quality of the measurement method, to facilitate the learning of undergraduate students in the Production Engineering Course through conciliation between theory and practice in the Fluid Mechanics Laboratory discipline classes. Finally, the prototype experiment was exposed to other students at the institutional event called “I Integrar Produção” held by UFRA at the Parauapebas Campus

    Optimization of truck allocation in open pit mines using differential evolution algorithm

    The allocation of trucks in open pit mines is a field with great potential for optimizing resources and applying advanced computer modeling techniques, mainly because many companies still choose to use manual allocation, which is premised on the decisions made by the operator, being subject to common failures and not reaching the maximum potential that the equipment can provide. Therefore, this work focuses on optimizing the allocation of trucks in order to increase production, reducing queue time and keeping ore grades within proper limits. The proposed algorithm was based on the differential evolution technique, where two types of mutation operators were used: rand/1/bin and best/1/bin, thus verifying the most suitable to solve the problem. The trucks were allocated in the ore loading and unloading process, aiming to improve the production capacity in a virtual mine. The results brought a convergence to the maximum global production, in addition to which, the allocation of unnecessary transport equipment to the planned routes was avoided. The two mutation operators compared had certain advantages and disadvantages, each better adapting to certain types of situations. The proposed technique can still be extended to other areas, for example, in the transport of grain on the road network or in the implementation of an allocation in freight cars that transport grain

    Prospecting papers and patents of gas lift valves technology

    Between the phases of oil exploration and production, there is this oil transfer through natural or artificial elevation method. When this method is natural, the pressure in the reservoir is sufficiently high and the fluids in it can emerge to the surface, but when this pressure is insufficient, the fluids do not reach the surface without the use of artificial lifting methods. Among the struggles to be solved by engineering, there is the optimization of the geometry of the lift gas valves (VGL) and the sealing material. In this context, this article presents the prospecting of papers and patents related to the technological advances of VGL published in the last five years (2016 to 2020) and as a research contribution, there is the identification of solutions regarding the aforementioned optimization. The ScienceDirect, Scopus, CAPES Periodical Portal, and Web of Science databases were used, and the patent search in the database of the European Patent Office (EPO), Espacenet. The results showed that the number of papers published in this area is low, showing that there have been more publications on the subject in the last three years. In addition, China and the United States of America are the countries with the highest number of patents granted in the years surveyed, and the two North American inventors have the greatest number of inventions

    MPH methylphenidate, popularly known as Ritalin, was synthesized in 1954 in Switzerland and marketed in Brazil in 1998, belonging to the class of amphetamines. It acts in the CNS crossing the blood-brain barrier very easily. Used for cognitive improvement by college students. Its excessive consumption leads to dependence and possible side effects. The objective of this study was to analyze 91 university students who answered questionnaires on the theme. The collected data analyzed the incidence of Ritalin use among health academics at the University of Gurupi-UNIRG. After conducting the surveys, it was intended to understand the real reason that leads the student to the indiscriminate use of the drug and its possible consequences, to subsequently conduct guidance regarding the use without a prescription for academic purposes

    Addressing the Poor Performance of Ghanaian Junior High School Pupils in selected science concepts through the use of Concepts Cartoons: A Study of Okai-Koi District, Accra

    This study explored the use of concept cartoons to enhance the performance of Junior High School pupils in selected science concepts by using pre and post intervention test. Sample comprised 37 Junior High School pupils and one science teacher in Abelemkpe Junior High School in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Concept cartoons are instructional tools designed to generate scientific thinking among learners. Adapted to the 5E instructional model, they can be used at any stage of the learning process to facilitate effective learning of scientific concepts. Completed tests based on five selected science concepts were analyzed using the t-test inferential statistics to establish any significance difference between respondents’ mean scores of the pre and post intervention data. Results revealed that the use of concept cartoons to teach the selected science concepts enhanced the pupils’ cognitive achievement. The concept cartoons affected learners’ academic achievement in positive ways. The pupils were able to construct their own knowledge and made meaning of their everyday experiences. Results of the t-test (t (36)=8.41, p=.000), (t (36)=9.38, p=.000), (t(36)=4.85, p=.000), (t(36)=10.58, p=.000) and (t(36)=11.85, p=.000) indicated a significant difference between the mean scores of the pretest and posttest. This implied that the use of concept cartoon had a positive effect on the cognitive achievement of pupils. It is therefore, recommended that JHS integrated science teachers adopt the use of concept cartoons to teach science effectively and to increase the pupils’ motivation to learn science

This study aims to re-examine the factors that influence the tendency of companies to disclose anti-corruption policies in the context of companies that exist in Indonesia and are listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The influence of good corporate governance itself is described through the proxies of good corporate governance, namely institutional ownership, audit committees and independent commissioners as benchmarks in this study
