    Biosafety and action in front of COVID-19: What do we know?

    The COVID-19 disease that affected the entire world in 2020 is caused by a virus (SARS-CoV-2) with a high rate of pathogenicity and transmission that caused several deaths in its trajectory. To combat this disease several personal hygiene measures and the use of personal protective equipment were necessary. In view of this, the study aims to clarify some doubts regarding the vaccine and its effectiveness, individual protection and the performance of health professionals in the face of this situation

    Effect of Students’ Attendance on their Academic Performance in Some Engineering Courses at the United Arab Emirates

    The correlation between students’ attendance and their final grades was studied by many researchers in many universities across the world in a number of specializations.  The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of absence on engineering students’ performance in general engineering courses and more specifically in fundamental courses that are provided solely by the Mechanical Engineering Department since there had been a substantial lack of studies involving them. In order to do so, a sample size of over 8000 students from the United Arab Emirates University UAEU was collaborated for this study with a main objective to conclude whether this relationship is significant or not. The data was generally collected over a period of five years, from 2013 to 2018. From the research conducted, the results showed that, students who do not attend class tend to perform worse on exams in engineering. Furthermore, the correlation between the student’s class attendance and student’s final grade is noteworthy and there is a strong correlation between them. Equally important, such low students’ academic performance reflects negatively to the course learning outcomes.&nbsp

    This scientific article aims to present information on the cases of comorbidity that most aggravate the symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 (Covid 19) with data extracted from the database of the official website of the Ministry of Health, which defined a system to monitor the information detected in the diagnoses of each patient. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the city of Manaus has suffered great consequences in relation to the SARS-CoV-2 virus (Covid-19). predicting patients at higher risk of death. We describe the origin and spread of the virus and the use of the SGBD software MySql and MySql Workbench to improve data in the selection and pre-processing, with the resources of the weka tool for knowledge learning, ending with the objective achieved in the classification of comorbidities that further aggravate the clinical conditions

    The Perceptions of students about Problems in Computing Higher Education : A Statistical Analysis

    Female students face various problems in the undergraduate computer science environment. In this paper we investigate undergraduate computer science students\u27 perceptions of discrimination, harassment, drop out intention, gender devaluation, sense of belonging, gender stereotype, and self-efficacy. It also collects information about unpleasant facts that happened to students. A questionnaire was applied to two hundred and fifty students from undergraduate computer science courses from more than twenty universities in Brazil. Data from the questionnaire were analyzed using statistical methods. A comparison between men and women experiences is provided. In addition, we examine correlations between issues reported by the female students and their intentions to leave university. The results show that the majority of students in both sexes have a low sense of belonging and also that men bear some of the problems. Nevertheless, women suffer more from discrimination and gender stereotype than men

    Synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial evaluations of mixed ligand complexes of sulphamethaxole and metronidaxole with some transistion metals (Zn, Co, Cu and Fe) in water methanol medium

    Sulfamethoxazole and metronidazole are antibiotics use for the treatment of various bacterial infections. Their use as ligand is very prominent in formation of metal complexes. The transition metal complexes are synthesized by reaction of Sulfamethoxazole and metronidazole with metals such Mn(II), Cu(II), Fe(II) and Ni(II). The synthesized metal complexes are tested as antibacterial and antifungal. The antimicrobial activity of the complexes displays good potency against some microorganism such as Xanthomonas axonopodis, Streptococcus faecalia, Salmonella entrica, Claribacter michiganense, Xanthomonas phaseolin for bacteria and S.roofisii, M.phonoides, C.lindimuthianum for the fungi, it is revealed that all copper complexes show stronger antibacterial activity than the free drugs. The spectroscopic properties of the complexes were investigated using UV/visible and FT-IR which show metal-charge from 3d to 3s transition in which the transition state shows that they are octahedral geometry and their coordination site respectively. Their percentage yield was moderately high and producible. The complexes synthesized have higher inhibitory activities than the free ligand. The drug resistance in microbes is resulting in the incompetence of available drugs to care for the infections. The thermal analysis shows that the complexes are stable

    Optimization method applied to decision-making on intermodal alternative for soybean outflow in the State of Pará-Brazil

    In Brazil, the sector of agribusiness suffers with the lack of infrastructure for the production outflow and as transportation costs increase, they affect its competitiveness in the world scenario. In this work, an optimization model was developed to support decision-making to soybeans transport for export, in regions in the state of Para (Brazil) near to Tocantins-Araguaia waterway. The study applied a Linear Programming model, adopting the transport problem, in search of minimizing the costs of alternative routes, restricted to the respective supply and demand limitations. The model aimed to minimize the transport costs from the production centers to the exporting port, through the current infrastructure and suggesting the road and waterway intermodal alternative by means of the interior navigation, considering diverse points for transshipment. The results showed a cost reduction for production outflow in the base year of the study when the intermodal transport was used. Furthermore, the new routes only by waterway created a new transport network configuration, decreasing the road distances for the municipalities production outflow, supporting the increasing of competitiveness of the state, as well as providing wealth generation in the region

    Influence of irrigation and nitrogen fertilization on the characteristics of seeds of Jatropha

    Agronomic information on the cultivation of Jatropha plants (Jatropha curcas L.) in the field is still uncommon in the literature, especially under conditions of water and nutritional stress. Thus, this field study aimed to evaluate the effects of irrigation depths (735; 963; 1,191; 1,418 and 1,646 mm) and nitrogen fertilization (0; 25; 50 and 75 kg ha-1) on the characteristics of seeds of Jatropha. Nitrogen fertilization did not influence the production components of Jatropha. The seeds have an elongated aspect, where the length is always greater than the width and thickness. The highest values of seed thickness obtained in plants under the lowest irrigation depth. Plants under the highest irrigation depth showed the highest values of seed length, total number of seeds per plant and productivity of seeds
