Impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on solid medical waste management in a hospital environment
In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the increase in the generation of solid health-care waste can be understood as a factor related to the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 cases and its impacts on society. This investigation aimed to verify the consequences of the increase in solid health-care waste as well as the response practices to the handling of these materials in times of a pandemic. A documentary analysis regarding the generation of solid health-care waste was developed at the Hospital de Clínicas of the Federal University of Uberlândia located in Uberlândia/Minas Gerais, Brazil. The results showed that the increase in the generation of solid health-care waste increased significantly in the hospital. The study suggests the implementation of a continuing education program for the health professionals of the institution, in order to reinforce knowledge about the management of solid health-care waste
Learning as a permanent innovation: advances on studies of the intellect
Even though research shows that incorporating metacognition-based pedagogy into the classroom leads to improved student performance, educators\u27 grasp of the concept remains limited. It is argued that educators would benefit from a deeper familiarity with the metacognitive approach if they worked with students to foster a belief that education has the potential to inspire a lifelong curiosity for discovery and improvement. This article therefore provides a synthesis of the analysis of the outcomes of implementing metacognition-based pedagogical approaches (N = 83), published between 2016 and 2021. Researchers looked into teachers\u27 conceptualizations and implementations of pedagogical strategies in order to comprehend the factors that stimulate students\u27 perceptions of innovation. From these studies, we can infer that the learner experiences, perceives, and comprehends the new information as an integral part of himself, rather than as an imposition from without. The findings led to the presentation of five hypotheses about how educators can improve their practice by learning more about students\u27 perceptions, cognitive experiments, and interpsychic and intrapsychic social relations
The Effect of teacher motivation and instructional methodologies on student outcomes in integrated science in the upper east region, Ghana
This study\u27s focus was to ascertain how teaching strategies and teacher motivation affected students\u27 performance in integrated science in Ghana\u27s Upper East. The researcher employed a survey design. Heads of senior high schools and teachers of integrated science constitute the study\u27s population. Purposeful and straightforward random samplings were utilised to choose the respondents. 84 respondents made up the sample, comprising 80 integrated science teachers and 4 school heads. A structured questionnaire served as the primary tool, and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences was used to analyse the data (SPSS).
The data analysis revealed that a large percentage of integrated science instructors (52.5%) thought that teacher motivation led them to perform in-depth study in order to teach effectively. Additionally, it was found that every integrated science instructor stated that skilled teachers employ effective teaching strategies to raise student achievement
Use of chirps satellite precipitation in the characterization of the franceses stream basin, Manaus - State of Amazonas - Brazil
The city of Manaus has numerous waterways in its urban perimeter, and, despite this, there is a shortage of measures aimed at protecting water resources that has generated occupations very close to the riverbeds. This work aims to characterize a watershed in an urban area of Manaus and map the areas subject to flooding around the Franceses Stream. The methodology applied involved obtaining topographic and thematic information such as morphology, geographical location, elevations, extent, area, level curves (water dividers) of the basin, obtained through georeferenced satellite images in a GIS environment. In addition, monthly satellite precipitation via the CHIRPS product was used for the calculations. The physical characteristics of the basin were determined using equations employed in hydrology. The results indicated that the Franceses Stream basin is not subject to major flooding, presenting the following characteristics: compactness coefficient Kc = 5.71; form factor Kf = 0.36; circularity index Ic = 0.03; drainage density Dd = 0.94km-1. It was also found that, despite the intense occupation, there is preserved vegetation within the basin. It was concluded that the precipitation estimated by CHIRPS is efficient because it has a larger coverage, and that knowing the characteristics of watersheds in urban environments is of great importance to subsidize intervention measures and planning policies that ensure the protection of water resources and minimize inconvenience to the population. It was also found that the use of GIS is an important tool for analyzing information in hydrological studies, and that it needs to become an increasingly applied tool in urban management, so that the knowledge obtained can be used to obtain better environmental and social conditions
Organization isomorphism and the search for knowledge and its influence on innovative performance: A study at APL Taquaral Goiás, Brazil
This research sought to analyse the occurrence of organizational isomorphism and search for knowledge among the companies participating in the Local Productive Arrangement of Confections of Taquaral - GO, observing the effects of these elements on the innovative performance of the arrangement. As a methodological path, the exploratory and descriptive nature is recognized. As for the research design, it is understood as a survey, using the scale created by Zhang & Hu (2017). The practice of imitation (organizational isomorphism) by companies was observed, taking into account the two types of knowledge: exploratory and exploitative. It was found that there are institutional practices and strategic actions by the cluster organizations that have isomorphic characteristics, both for coercive and normative nature and for mimetics, in individual and also integrated formats. A framework was developed that demonstrated how organizational isomorphism influences the search for knowledge (Exploratory and Exploitative) in which it was seen that companies are able to innovate in models and materials through imitation, but innovation of processes and new technologies is quite incipient, due to technical and financial incapacity
Lust and Loss in Ravenhill’s Shopping and F****ing & Kane’s Blasted: Troubling Trends in a New Culture
As the modern world hangs on a string of utter moral collapse, several writers unleash moral restraints, thus bringing immorality to the market square to consumers who seem to yearn for the collapse of moral walls in their world. Hearkening to such cravings, Mark Ravenhill’s provocative title and play, Shopping and Fucking (1996), and Sarah Kane’s flaming play, Blasted (1995), present morally bankrupt characters clothed in the garments of modern humanity. Glued to wild and recurrent sexual habits, suggesting, as it were, the unceasing erosion of human dignity, these characters cling, with menacing sternness, to sex at all times and in all lieu. Like burning candles that consume their own heights, chronic sexual drives and activities in the works of the foregoing playwrights depict our world and diminish the statue of humanity. Set in an economically dejected and drug-redden East End of London, Shopping and F****ing serves as a canopy under which sits rancorous, impulsive, and rampant sex and drugs with the attendant loss they create. In a similar vein, Sarah Kane’s Blasted, set in a war-torn city, which duplicate the ruins of our societies, depicts depraved characters who have sex at whim and with impunity
Lebanese media and the dilemma of paywalls
The dilemma of paywalls* is a worldwide debate. In fact, implementing a paywall can make the website and hence the media very prosperous. But also implementing a paywall could affect the way and the means that connect you to your audience. Therefore, once putting in a gateway, management and decision makers should make sure they absolutely trust the impact the paywall will have on their operations, as the stakes at play are even more dangerous than they might realize. Experts advise that there are three conditions that a media institution must meet before adding a paywall. Lebanon’s media has its own specificity in this regard, and we herein describe the obstacles to the success of any paywall on media institutions in Lebanon
Fuzzy modeling to define corrosivity potential in oil pipelines
In this work, a Fuzzy logic model was developed using the Fuzzy Logic Toolbox™ of the MATLAB® software, for monitoring the corrosivity potential in oil pipelines whose corrosion mechanism is predominantly by microbiological action. With the use of operational parameters, the model presents itself as an alternative to conventional monitoring methods, allowing to infer the corrosion rate in the pipeline, and therefore, the corrosivity potential. The model was applied to an oil pipeline and its results were compared with conventional monitoring methods. The analysis of the results concluded that the model can be used as a monitoring method for pipelines with those predominant corrosion mechanisms, helping to manage the integrity of oil pipelines
