The Transforming Power of Scientific Knowledge: A Study of Human Development on a Global Scale in Terms of Academic Efficiency

    Get PDF
Knowledge, and especially scientific knowledge, is crucial in terms of transforming societies, and making social structures manageable and sustainable. This can be seen in the fact that the universities which are at the top of the global university rankings are mostly located in countries that are the center of attraction. The aim of this study is to examine the positive effects of academic productivity, which is of great importance in optimizing social conditions, on human development on a global scale with a statistically provable technique. In order to understand this relationship more clearly, our study has compared countries according to their academic productivity using the Multidimensional Scaling Analysis method and established a relationship between this and human development. As a result of the analysis carried out within the scope of the study, which used data from 178 countries from the time period of 1996-2019, it was concluded that the relationship between academic productivity and human development was only at a medium level. This suggests that, in addition to the need for scientific knowledge to be used for the improvement of social conditions, scientific knowledge is limited to certain organizations, which leads to the elitism of scientific knowledge

Mapping the DMAIC Tool in the Public Sector: A Bibliometric Literature Review

    Get PDF
The quality and continuous improvement of products and processes continue to play an essential role in the business context, with the need for more responsive, flexible, and responsive organizations. Among the many tools and methodologies employed, DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control), linked to Six Sigma, is used to improve existing products or organizational processes. Nevertheless, if in the private sector, the adoption and practice of these tools and methodologies are widely used, in the public sector, in turn, the applicability of DMAIC is little employed. In this perspective, and using the methodological resource of systematic literature review, this article aims to identify the applicability of the DMAIC tool in the public sector. The review indicates that while DMAIC still has low public evidence, the tool can be efficiently applied across the industry, enabling positive results for organizations, reducing costs, delivering efficient processes, and increasing customer satisfaction

    No full text
This work presents the development and implementation of a System for Acquisition of Rotations composed of an open-source Arduino electronic prototyping platform and a Supervision and Data Acquisition System (SCADA). This system obtains instantaneous values for frequency, linear velocity, and angular velocity, and the graphical representation of said instantaneous values is in real-time. Thus, the proposed system is a mediator of learning for the teaching of Circular Movement Uniform, with theoretical/practical interaction essential in classes for understanding the content

Information and Communication Technologies in University Libraries: Relevance for Users with Disabilities

    Get PDF
Digital and assistive technologies are of great relevance to the social, educational, and professional inclusion of persons with disabilities. Within this context, we aim to describe the relevance of information and communication technologies for persons with disabilities in the context of university libraries. Data were collected through a bibliographical research based on secondary sources, namely books, journal articles and other reference materials in the area investigated. The obtained results revealed that although resources such as digital and assistive technologies are available in the market to improve the user experience of persons with disabilities, most university libraries are still lacking several of these resources to supply these users’ information demands. Even with laws ensuring the right to full accessibility, several higher education institutions are still omissive in this regard, leaving their students with disabilities on the margins of the learning process through the support of the university library. On this matter, we emphasize that university libraries must develop their abilities aiming to promote informational and communicational access to users with disabilities using digital and assistive technologies

    Get PDF
The research aimed to validate the ISAREG model, introducing it to water management studies in irrigation in the State of Ceará, comparing results of experimental research, with results of simulations, carried out with the use of software, analyzing the following variables: crop evapotranspiration, variation of soil water storage and water flow in the soil. A bibliographic survey was carried out to obtain soil, climate and crop information required by the model to perform the soil water balance. Aiming at the validation of ISAREG, the model was fed with the following data: reference evapotranspiration, precipitation, phenological phases of the crop, effective depth of the root system, water availability factor in the soil, crop coefficient and soil information. Subsequently, the irrigation management option "dates and irrigation depths" was selected, and ISAREG performed the simulation of the soil water balance. The ISAREG demonstrated a detailed soil water balance, being validated in this study, because when its results were compared to the experimental ones, there was similarity in the trends of the variables analyzed, despite the reduced correlation verified regarding the variation of water storage in the soil

    Get PDF
O Cervical cancer is considered a persistent public health problem, the access to health services, as well as women\u27s adherence to the Pap smear, is one of the main tools to change this scenario, favoring the early detection of the disease. When considering the morbidity and mortality rates, taking into account the color, it is evident that black women need a different look. Given the above, the objective of this work is to analyze the knowledge, attitude and practice of quilombola women in Amapá about the preventive examination for cervical cancer. The study has a quantitative approach, of an applied nature, of the Survey type, having as reference the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice Survey (KAP) on the PCCU exam. The field research was carried out in the Quilombo do Curiaú in the state of Amapá. The data were submitted to the SPSS version 25.0 program, for the description of the statistical results, being considered relevant the results with p<0.05, which made it possible to trace the following socioeconomic and anthropometric profile: age from 18 to 33 years old (43.75 %), Catholic (92.50%), single (52.50%), complete high school (31.35%), without paid activity (41.25%), month family income from 1 to 2 minimum wages (37 .50%) and an average of five family members (36.25%). They present weight 69.34 (Me), height 161.06 (Me), Body Mass Index (BMI) 26.685 (Me), waist circumference (WC) 86.97 (Me), hip circumference (HC) 106 .77 (Me) and CC/HC ratio index 0.8172 (Me). Thus, the study revealed that 42.50% meet the parameter considered normal for BMI and 68.75% have a low risk for the development of Chronic Non-Transmissible Neoplastic Diseases, according to CC/HC. Using the criteria proposed by the KAP survey as a reference, 26.25% had adequate knowledge, 30% had adequate attitude and 37.5% had adequate practice, demonstrating a negative proportional assessment in relation to the PCCU exam. The KAP survey was carried out, which showed that only 36.27% of the women were characterized with Adequate Knowledge, 30.00% with Adequate Attitude and 37.5% with Adequate Practice, highlighting the need for educational actions at this topic with the female quilombola population, with a view to increasing the adherence to the uterine cytopathological examination within these communities

    The Acceleration, Education and Resonance

    No full text
This article aims to reflect on the themes of Acceleration, Education and Resonance. The work discusses the educational process, already exhaustively addressed, from a perspective not yet explored in the work of Hartmut Rosa: the historically feasible process of acceleration and its bet on the construction of resonant relationships in the educational process. The constitution and consolidation of the educational process is feasible, and that it is continuously modified with processes of ruptures, advances and setbacks, in the name of Culture. Rosa exhaustively explores the process of acceleration of the world in her work “Acceleration”, as well as underscores in “Ressonance” the need to build an “oasis of resonance”. This work, as a reflexive exercise, dares to weave an arrangement in which it is not possible to think or even build an “acceleration oasis” in the educational space without this construction not considering the categorical imperative of time

Due to the heterogeneity of the real estate market and its peculiarities, it is not always possible to develop a single model that is totally faithful and representative of the market reality, thus, the Evaluation Engineering is increasingly developing, with the use of increasingly advanced processes in the determination of the value of the good, such as the application of statistical inference and the use of physical depreciation. This study aims to determine the value of a property in the city of Codó-MA, using statistical inference through multiple linear regression and, later, to verify physical depreciation. The data were collected in the city of Codó,MA, in real estate, construction companies that work with the sale of houses, ads and, its statistical treatment was performed by the Sisdea software. After the statistical treatment some models were generated and the most effective one was used and the one that best met the requirements foreseen by NBR 14653-2 (2011) and, after the physical depreciation was verified by two different methods: survey of the cost of recovering the good and Ross Heidecke’s method. Finally, it was possible to determine the market value of the property and to make a critical analysis among the values found of physical depreciation by each method performed

Indicators To Evaluate Research Efficiency in Higher Education Institutions

    Get PDF
The comparison of efficiency between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) based on quantitative and absolute data, is it may not be the most honest way to establish efficiency levels. This study aims to propose indicators for evaluating efficiency in research to compose the management report of intangible assets in HEI. A search was performed in the SCOPUS bibliographic base to identify the intellectual production of the Federal University of Sergipe in the period from 1977 to 2019. The results demonstrate a positive trend in the growth of the volume of publications and that the intellectual production of the university is the result of its integration in national and international networks of scientific collaboration. A management report that aims to demonstrate the value of the university should accurately contemplate the intangible assets produced by it, which could be used as indicators of research efficiency. The disclosure of the value of intangible assets is a strategy to increase the value and credibility of the brand, but also a form of positive accountability to its maintainer and to society

    Get PDF
The paper presents the experience of teaching entrepreneurship in a health-focused Higher Education Institution, based on Bloom’s Taxonomy revised by Lori Anderson (2001). The teaching methodologies that were used focused on creativity, analysis, criticism, planning and interpersonal skills to develop the expertise needed to undertake and manage different types of businesses. Students were encouraged to propose business and healthcare solutions by employing creativity, ideation, planning, and management tools. Other practices like Brainstorm, the Edward de Bono\u27s 6 Hats technique, the PIN - Positive, Interesting and Negative Points technique, and the Business Model Canvas proposed by Alexander Osterwalder for business modeling, among others, were used. The next step was the elaboration of Businesses Plans, using popular models or the project model proposed by the Project Management Body of Knowledge. At the time of the final evaluation, there was a business round with the presentation of the students\u27 plans and questions, and comments with emphasis on the proposed ideas and solutions, as well as a self-evaluation. It was noticed that this exercise allowed the learning process to take place in a contextualized way, involving gradual degrees of complexity while being characterized as a process articulated to the daily work, in line with the curricular guidelines for the training of health professionals
