    Case study: Lifecycle Assessment and CBios Emission Factor for biodiesel production with variation of the biomass and eligibility criteria

    The Brazilian National Biofuels Policy (RenovaBio) has as its main purpose to promote the growth of the biofuels chain in Brazil, from more efficient and sustainable production models, culminating in the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, as well as contributing to the fulfillment of the commitments assumed by the country at COP-21. RenovaCalc is a tool from RenovaBio that is capable of analyzing lifecycle inventory data of background processes, added to the technical parameters of agricultural and industrial production that is informed by the biofuel producer. The final product is given through an Energy-Environmental Efficiency Grade (NEEA). In this context, NEEA, together with raw material eligibility values, will serve as the basis for the calculation of decarbonization credits (CBios). Given this context, the present study sought to investigate three scenarios: S1: excluded agricultural phase; S2: 100% eligible soy combined with the use of beef tallow, and S3: production of biodiesel with 100% soybean oil. The study compared two biodiesel producing national industries to NEEA certified by the Brazilian National Office of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). It can be concluded that NEEA does not have a direct influence on the quantity of CBios to be traded, that is, the highest ratio is given from the eligibility (%) of the raw material chosen for the production of the fuel. Thus, scenario 2, which relied on the use of waste, proved to be 10 times more profitable compared to the other scenarios, in both analyses, due to its high eligibility. However, in terms of NEEA, it was noted that the exclusion of the agricultural phase (scenario 1) was the one that was most efficient in terms of gCO2 eq./MJ. It is relevant to emphasize the importance of proper handling and practices that guarantee the traceability of the grain so that the eligibility indexes are optimized

    Actions and reactions to obstetric violence: a qualitative study about waterbirth

    This text is part of a research carried out between 2015 and 2016 aimed to investigate the social representations developed by women who gave birth in water about this type of birth. This is a qualitative study carried out with women who experienced waterbirth in a public and private hospital in Portugal. This article is part of this research, seeking to focus on an important theme seized in this investigation: obstetric violence. We seek to discuss the forms of obstetric violence present in the reports of women who have experienced waterbirth. Methodologically, the research was qualitative, using the snowball technique for access to participants and interviews with them. As a result, the existence of resistance and reactions of women is highlighted who, by naming the practices of obstetric violence, including disrespect in the birth scenario, sought to break in different ways with the asymmetry of the relationship with the child health professional, either by silencing and seeking contact with another professional in the care relationship or by denying the impositions to which they were submitted

    Effective Source Term Discretizations for Higher Accuracy Finite Volume Discretization of Parabolic Equations

    A finite volume method is applied to develop space-time discretizations for parabolic equations based on an equation error method.A space-time expansion of the local equation error based on flux integral formulation of the equation is first designed using a desiredframework of neighboring quadrature points for the solution and local source terms. The quadrature weights are then determined through aminimization process for the error which constitutes all local compact fluxes about each centroid within the computational domain.In utilizing a local source term distribution to account for diffusive fluxes, the right minimizing quadrature weights and collocationpoints including subgrid points for the source terms may be determined and optimized for higher accuracies as well as robust higher-ordercomputational convergence. The resulting local residuals form a more complete description of the truncation errors which are then utilizedto assess the computational performances of the resulting schemes. The effectiveness of the discretization method is demonstrated by theresults and analysis of the schemes

    Anatomical changes in Urochloa Plantaginea and Urochloa Platyphylla under different soil moisture conditions

    Urochloa plantaginea and Urochloa platyphylla are common weeds in the highland area. However, in recent years, they have been found in wetlands and poorly drained soils, but the biology and behavior of the species in these conditions are not known. Thus, the objective was to assess anatomical changes in plants of Urochloa plantaginea and Urochloa platyphylla grown under different soil moisture conditions, as well as the adaptive structures generated as a result of each environment. A completely randomized experimental design in the form of a 2x2 factorial design was used, with factor A being two species of Urochloa (U. plantaginea and U. platyphylla), and species B being three soil moisture conditions (50 and 100% FC and 5 cm water depth), with four repetitions. The assessments were performed by means of anatomical cuts, observing the number and diameter (micrometers - μm) of aerenchymas in stems, roots and leaves; total diameter and the central root cylinder (μm); diameter of the fistula medulla and cortex (μm) in stems; mesophyll thickness and leaf midrib (μm). It was found that, for the two species of Urochloa, the water depth condition induced an increase in the number and diameter of aerenchymas in roots and leaves and provided a larger diameter of the fistulous pith in stems. The diameter of the central cylinder and the thickness of the leaf mesophyll midrib were more compact at 50% FC, also, for both species. Therefore, the adaptive structures generated vary as a result of the field capacity of the soil

    Women: Discrimination, violence and struggles in contemporary Brazil

    The present paper delimited as a general objective to analyze the theme of women in relation to discrimination, violence and struggles in contemporary Brazil. This is a qualitative work, with a bibliographic nature, in which we revisit studies that deal with women and their struggles for insertion in the labor market, as well as the current conditions for the insertion of women in the commercial field. The relevance of our study lies in the current condition of women, who, according to the Brazilian Federal Constitution (1988), have the same rights as men, and it is necessary to discuss the subject. Given the degree of vulnerability of women in the context of domestic and family violence, it is of paramount importance that studies be developed that focus on ways to protect women against all forms of violence, bringing in their scope a range of possibilities for reflection. Our results pointed to a great scarcity that still exists in work opportunities for women, but despite the great discrimination, violence and struggles, in the twelfth century they have been gaining insertion and representation

    Hiv And Hepatitis B Virus Co-Infection: Frequency And Presence Of Hepatic Injuries

    The clinical importance of HBV-HIV co-infection comes from the fact that both viruses are highly transmissible and share similar routes of transmission. Co-infected individuals are more likely to develop liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. In view of the above, this manuscript is a quantitative, sectional, descriptive study with secondary data obtained from the analysis of medical records of 88 individuals with chronic hepatitis B. Thus, the purpose of this manuscript is to estimate the frequency of HBV-HIV co-infection and to identify the presence of liver damage. The results revealed an HBV-HIV co-infection rate of 9.1% (8//88), with two individuals being infected with the HIV-HBV-HCV virus concurrently. A large percentage of patients are male and heterosexual. There was a relationship between risky sexual behavior (sex without using a condom, multiple sexual partners) and the acquisition of hepatitis B and HIV. Related to the presence of liver lesions, it was observed that only one patient is diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, but there were no cases of hepatocellular carcinoma. Considering the increase in the quality of life and survival of people with HIV, the need to maintain protocols for the investigation of hepatocellular carcinoma is evident, thus seeking early detection and treatment

    Morphologic, structural, and magnetic characterization of cobalt ferrite nanoparticles synthesized at different temperatures

    In this study we report on the synthesis and characterization of cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) nanoparticles (NPs), synthesized by chemical co-precipitation in alkaline medium. Two samples were synthesized at two different temperatures, 35 and 90 oC. Both samples were characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and room-temperature (RT) magnetization. Two samples showed superparamagnetic behavior (SPM) at RT. TEM reveals morphological mean diameter increasing 5.8 nm to 10.4 nm, with the increase of the co-precipitation temperature. XRD confirm the inverse cubic spinel structure. The RT magnetization curves were analyzed by the first-order Langevin function averaged out by a lognormal distribution function of magnetic moments. This analysis showed saturation magnetization and magnetic moment increases from 60.2 to 74.8 emu/g and from 3.9 x 103 to 8.2 x 103 mB, respectively

    Trademark registration in Brazil, the United States and Portugal

    This article aims to understand, analyze and compare the procedures adopted in Brazil, the United States and Portugal to register a trademark. For this purpose, bibliographic research was carried out in the Web of Science and documentary research into the three official institutions of trademark registration, namely: INPI(Brazil), USPTO(United States) and INPI(Portugal). In order to understand the adopted procedures, a simulation of the trademark application was made in the e-Marcas (Brazil), TEAS (USA) and InpiOnline (Portugal) systems. In terms of navigability, the INPI (Portugal) InpiOnline System is the easiest to navigate and is the only one that offers the "Trademark on the Spot" service on its Portal, which allows for the immediate acquisition of a trademark without the need to go through the trademark application process. On the partnership issue, the USPTO (United States) has a support network with the Patent and Trademark Resource Centers (PTRC), which are part of the national network of public, state, and academic libraries designated to support the public with trademark and patent assistance. Among the main points in common, the following were identified: the availability of online systems for applying for trademark registration; the ease of conducting prior search in proprietary systems, and the use of the Nice classification to classify goods and services. Among the main differences are the estimated period to obtain the granting of the trademark registration; the types of trademarks allowed in each legislation; and the values of the fees to apply for a trademark registration

    Telectronic Government and Process Innovation: The perception of Municipal Public Managers

    This study aimed to identify and interpret the municipal public managers in the use of the electronic portal of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. Thus, the applied and quantitative research was carried out with 62 municipal managers from the municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul. As a result, it was observed that the electronic portal is seen as process innovation, which minimizes public administration and user spending, and enables process improvements for the citizen. It was also observed that the variables were grouped into three factors: technology, processes and interaction, with no variance between the groups by mesoregions. Finally, it was observed that there is a moderate positive correlation between Technology and Processes, Technology and Interaction, and Processes and Interaction
