Reading habit during the successful aging process
No full textThe increase in the elderly population brings a reflection on successful aging. Thus, beneficial aspects during this phase are analyzed. This study aimed to analyze the forms of influence of the reading habit for the promotion of successful aging, relating the readings performed with the periods of the development process throughout life. The study presents a qualitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional design. This study sample was composed of seven women who participated in this research, aged 60 years, or over, intentionally selected through the snowball technique. The criterion for inclusion in the study was to have the habit of reading throughout the life cycle. The research instrument was a semi-structured interview script. The analysis was performed using the Bardin content analysis method. From the results, it was possible to identify the habit of reading as a great ally, working as a tool for coping with difficulties. In aging, reading occurs naturally, showing its importance throughout life. Among the interviewees, it was possible to identify, despite their unique stories, that parents have a strong influence on an individual reader\u27s formation. It comes to solidify when the school reinforces it in adolescence. The experience of aging is unique, that is, subjective, and reading can serve all people in different ways. Consequently, this habit enables learning to overcome difficulties in each phase, providing a conscious and autonomous experience of aging, retirement, and body changes, looking for ways to live healthier, taking advantage of their individual potential. 
Visualization of Archimedian and Platonic polyhedra using a web environment in Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality
Get PDFThis paper shows the development of a web environment for the construction of Archimedes and Plato polyhedra in Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). In this environment we used the geometric transformations of translation and rotation with the structure of hierarchies of HTML pages, without the use of the coordinates of each polyhedra vertex. The developed environment can be used in classroom to visualize the polyhedra in Augmented Reality, with the possibility of manipulations of the graphical representations by students in the environment created in Virtual Reality. Other studies that can be developed with the polyhedra modeled are areas, volumes and the relation of Euler. Another important content that can be developed is truncation, because seven Archimedes polyhedra are obtained by using truncation of Plato\u27s polyhedrons. With this work, it becomes possible to develop didactic materials with a simple technology, free and with great contribution to improvement of the teaching of Geometry and other areas that use representation of 3D objects
Revisiting Socio- economic impact of Villagization, In the Case Assosa Zone , Ethiopia
Get PDFThe overall objective of this study is to explore the practice and challenges of villagization; in the selected woredas of the Assosa zone Beninshangul Gumuz regional state. To achieve goals of the survey study mixed research method was employed. Generally. the Sample size of 168 sample households were determined by using S = X2NP(1-P) ÷ d2 (N-1) + X2P (1-P), The research employed exploratory research design on the challenges and implementation of the program, and it applied mainly qualitative methods. On the basis and types of data gathered and the instrument used, both quantitative and qualitative techniques of data analysis or binary logistic regression supported by SPSS was employed. The only good thing about this life was farming since people had fertile lands. But, when villagization was implemented the lives of the villagers improved because they started to have better access to social services. The study showed that villagization was implemented voluntarily and based on the consent of the local people. However, it is possible to conclude that villagization has significantly improved the lives of the villagers by bringing positive changes that did not exist before. people

Profile of peach palm fruit consumers in the Metropolitan Region of Belém, Pará, Brazilian Amazon
Get PDFPeople in the Amazon highly value the fruit of the peach palm (Bactris gasipaes Kunth), but its commercialization is hampered because of consumers’ difficulty in identifying fruit of good quality. This study seeks to evaluate the behavior of peach palm fruit consumers in municipalities in the Belém Region in Pará State by conducting a survey of 200 consumers. Peach palm consumption frequency is low, and it has not grown over the past five years in the largest proportion of consumers. The attributes most consumers looked for when purchasing peach palm were its external aspects, displaying a preference for red, oily pulp, medium-sized fruits that were pitted. Consumers enjoy purchasing peach palm as bunches of raw fruit, and while they believe that the price is too high, they are willing to pay more for fruit of proven quality
Student Performance Prediction Based on a Framework of Teacher’s Features
Get PDFTeachers teaching skills are essential to motivate students’ engagement in online educational environments, where students and teachers interact with each other, generating a large amount of educational data. However, to the best of our knowledge, there is no previous study that takes advantage of the huge quantity of teachers’ behavioral data to predict students’ performance. To fill this research gap, we elaborated a theoretically based framework of teacher’s characteristics, that guided an automatic data collection of teachers’ behaviors to predict students’ performance. The implementation of a computational prediction system applied the Random Forest classifying algorithm, which achieved better performance, according to AUC metric, when compared to other algorithms. Two exploratory case studies were conducted to investigate the efficiency and efficacy of the framework of teacher’s features in Goiás Judicial School EJUG teachers in Brazil. The results from the case studies shown that the framework is effective to predict students’ performance. This work contributes to distant education, enabling monitoring teachers’ actions aiming students’ academic best achievements
L. S. Vygotsky and His Theory as an Inspiration for Innovations in Education
Get PDFIn recent years, preschool education has become an important topic in the Czech Republic. Since 1990, the system of preschool education has undergone a number of qualitative changes. A modern preschool curriculum has been created and is constantly being reviewed in line with the needs of society and educational policy objectives.One of the problems of the past decade concerns the high number of pupils with postponed compulsory attendance. This has become a challenge for both teachers and researchers. One of the steps that could help was the enactment of compulsory preschool education in 2017. More attention should therefore be given to systematic preparation of children for starting compulsory education on the basis of individualization in education. However, this requires teachers to use high-quality educational diagnostics in order to ensure children’s development with respect to their capabilities, interests and needs. A team of experts at the Faculty of Education at Palacký University is currently developing and validating an online application as an educational diagnostic instrument that should systematically monitor children’s progress as well as highlight potential problems and eliminate them in time. In the development of the instrument, the team builds on the current trends in preschool education, a number of educational theories and the work of renowned authors (Rogers, Piaget, Bandura, etc.) An interesting and inspiring view of the development and education of preschool children is presented by social constructivism and its main proponent Lev Semyonovich Vygotsky, whose ideas and legacy are outlined in the present study

Get PDFThis research analyzes the conceptual aspects and the state of the art of evaluation methodologies within government policies and programs, based on theoretical and empirical evidence on the subject. This article aims to map the evaluation study and discuss evaluation practices in Brazil, the United States and Europe. It is, therefore, an exploratory and bibliographic research, with a qualitative approach, based on studies indicated in the selected literature. Although the evaluation practices in Brazil are recent and not fully established, the results point out a similarity in the evaluation activities, when compared with the American and European countries. On the other hand, these evaluation practices are still little used in Brazil, which still faces contextual and methodological challenges in the evaluation of public policies and programs, as well as the implementation of continued evaluation policies

On the other hand, some areas of science have contributed substantially to a better understanding of this subject, such as genetics and epigenetics. Today, although the scientific community still offers some points of resistance, especially in more conservative countries, it is a consensus that since the implementation of the genome project there has been a considerable methodological expansion that has opened new possibilities of studies that have allowed this advance
The Performance assessment and sustainability of Civil Society Organizations: quanti-qualitative theoretical contributions
No full textThis article presents the results of a quanti-qualitative research process that introduces a theoretical model of sustainability assessment of non-profit Civil Society Organizations (CSO) within the tertiary sector. The theoretical model, in the quantitative approach, is composed of performance assessment indicators, efficiency and efficacy metrics, and a cash flow generation matrix (CGM) by applying basic matrix algebra. In the qualitative approach, the model encompasses indicators of satisfaction and social integration. In both approaches, the evaluation is separated by project, both individual and joint, taking into consideration each project’s independence and autonomy. The evaluation process is executed within the context of a governance commitment that uses voluntary service and offers non-state public services. The answers of the model, tested with academic data, anchor robust and meaningful contributions to the literature of sustainability assessment of tertiary sector organizations. Lastly, considering that the results obtained with standardized financial and accounting statements may hinder the model’s potential, it is encouraged that empirical research is conducted with managerial data
