The Evaluation of Twisted Pair Cable Performance in Circuits with DS18B20 Temperature Sensors

    Get PDF
The transmission of data and energy has been widely used over the past few centuries, but in a complex manner and at high cost. Gradually in order to simplify this process and reduce costs, important network cables have appeared, namely: twisted pair cables, coaxial cables, and fiberoptic cables. Thus, instead of various wires, a single cable has become necessary. Within this context, this study seeks to evaluate data transmission performance using two types of Ethernet cables, CAT E5 and CAT E6, in circuits with DS18B20 temperature sensors. The evaluation of the two cables was made by reducing their lengths by 10 meters every two weeks to find the length of cable which would ensure a reliable reading of the sensors for use in the research project entitled “The Evaluation of the Potential Use of Surface Geothermal Energy in the City of Dourados, MS”. The obtained data indicates that CAT E5 cables with lengths less than 70 meters ensure reliable readings close to the real value, while for CAT E6 Ethernet cables this takes place at lengths of less than 80 meters

Analysis of the mechanical properties of the concrete with partial substitution of the kind’s aggregate glass powder

    Get PDF
In this study, the influence of partial introduction as glass as fine aggregate on the composition of simple concrete is analyzed, considering that sand (fine aggregate currently used) has been used on a large scale in civil construction over the years and has been affecting the environment. The main objective of this research was to analyze the mechanical properties of concrete, partially replacing the natural sand with another fine aggregate made from glass residues, evaluating the behavior presented at the end of each test using different percentages of this material as fine aggregate in the concrete composition. From an experimental methodology that consisted of determining an object of study (concrete), selecting the variable that would possibly be able to influence it (glass powder) and defining the ways of controlling and observing the effects that the variable would produce on the object, an interpretation of how the mechanical properties of the glass powder that affect the performance of structural concrete is presented. The granulometry was subsequently analyzed, the tests carried out both in the fresh and hardened state of the concrete, and identified that the glass in a certain percentage proves to be viable. Finally, it can be concluded that the partial inclusion of glass affects the mechanical properties of structural concrete, and can present quite satisfactory results, both related to the environment, since the sand would not be used entirely as fine aggregate or in reaching a resistance suitable for its final use

    Get PDF
Breast cancer is a disease of epidemiological concern worldwide, being considered a serious public health problem. Although it is well established that early diagnosis and adequate treatment interfere with mortality rates and the prevalence of cancer, few data are available regarding the descriptive epidemiology of breast cancer in Brazil, as well as in the various states of the federation, as is the State of Amapá. The general objective was to characterize the risk factors of breast cancer patients treated at Hospital de Clínicas Dr. Alberto Lima (HCAL) from January 2012 to December 2017 in the city of Macapá, Amapá. Cases of breast cancer were reviewed, with an analysis of 194 medical records, and the following variables were studied: age, education level, histological type of the neoplasia, age at first delivery, menarche and menopause, breastfeeding time, alcohol intake, smoking, family history of breast cancer in first-degree relatives. It was noted that the age group most affected was between 41-50 years old and with an education level of elementary education. In these women, the most frequent characteristics were: age at first delivery between 13-20 years, menarche between 10-13 years, menopause from 41-50 years with a significant number of patients at menace (outside menopause), breastfeeding time between 2-22 and 23-42 months, both intervals with the same number of records; most did not drink alcohol, were not smokers and had no family history of first-degree relatives of breast cancer. In the cases studied, the most frequently diagnosed histological type was invasive ductal carcinoma

    Get PDF
The Coronavirus Pandemic has brought about vast changes in the lives of people, from daily routines to social interactions. These abrupt changes hugely affected the education system, bringing about initiatives such as online classrooms and asynchronous activities. This scenario is tough for everyone, but it is more challenging to people with special needs and disabilities, particularly those who have Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families. Some mitigating factors that the government has imposed to curb the spread of the virus include social distancing and health protocols, contributing to the struggles faced by the children and their families. With the use of technology, E- Learning has been made possible.  Schools help lighten up the load by creating learning management system which acts as a replacement of traditional learning. Aside from children with disabilities, their parents or guardians should also be taught how to use the e-learning platforms for them to be effective partners of the teachers in guiding and nurturing these students. Through the literature review, this paper seeks to analyze the role of the school and the educators in promoting and fostering a culture of inclusivity for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder during the COVID-19 Pandemic outbreak, and to analyze how the Universal Design for Learning success model as an intervention that can support learners with special needs. The paper gives future directions for educators and researchers.   Keywords: E-learning, Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Inclusion during COVID-1

    Get PDF
Congenital oropharyngeal teratoma is a rare tumor subtype with cells from the three germ layers, majorly being benign. Whereas teratoma develops early in intrauterine life, thus affecting the growth and development of adjacent structures, the purpose of this case report is to present the sequelae of this tumor in a child\u27s oral cavity. Female child, 2 years and 3 months old referred by the otorhinolaryngologist for dental evaluation. The mother´s main complaint was the the child could not close her mouth. According to the child\u27s medical record, at 34th week of gestation, during the routine ultrasound examination, the presence of the anechoic tumor mass was observed without Doppler signal, presenting a 3.2cm x 2.4cm diameter outside through the oral cavity. At 17 and 32 days of life, respectively, the excision of the largest and residual tumor located on the floor of the mouth was performed. Upon anatomopathological examination, the tumor with was classified as a mature teratoma. In the intraoral examination, a deep and atresia palate incomplete cleft palate, bone growth in the region of the posterior alveolar ridge of the maxilla, and in the posterior region of the mandible on the left side, "V" shaped mandible and microglossia, crowding were observed dental agenesis of the lower lateral incisors, absence of caries lesions, gingivitis and enamel development defects. The child will remain under the regular dental pediatric follow-up. Several sequelae were observed in the child\u27s oral cavity and the need for multi-professional follow-up after excision of congenital oropharyngeal teratoma

Project-Based Learning: a strategy for teaching integral differential calculus for engineering students in a school in Brazil

    Get PDF
One of the problems that concerns engineering courses in Brazil is the students low level of motivation in regarding the type of teaching and, as a consequence, low academic performance. This article encourages the introduction of active methods in Engineering teaching, emphasizing the methodologies of Project Based Learning. The approach used was proposing a project for students to analyze important aspects in the production of cylindrical cans. The students applied calculus concepts and developed a model for the optimal dimensions of the cylinder and the utilization of the plates used. Characteristics of two materials used in the manufacture of these cans (tinplate and aluminum) were also gotten. Such aspects are relevant for both environmental sustainability and production costs. Concepts of application of derivatives and Fermat\u27s theorem were used, learned in the discipline of Differential and Integral Calculus, in order to obtain the maximum and minimum values of an established function which relates the dimensions of the can and the amount of material needed. The dimensions obtained theoretically proved to be close to the real values found in cans available on the market. After analyzing the resistance to corrosion, the cost, the decomposition time and the mechanical resistance, it was concluded that the most appropriate material for the production of cans was the tinplate. In this context, teaching with Project Based Learning methodologies may contribute to innovative teaching practices in the training of engineering professionals, overcoming the limitations of traditional teaching methods
