Lapsesta aikuiseksi: 61-vuotiaiden elämäntilannekysely 2020-2021

No full text
Taustamuuttujana on vastaajan sukupuoli. The Life Situation Survey 2020-2021 is part of the Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Personality and Social Development (JYLS), which has followed the same individuals since 1968. This research wave explores the lives of participants, now around 61 years old, across key areas such as family, work, housing, health and leisure. Data collection for this phase included a life situation questionnaire, a psychological interview, self-assessment forms, a health examination and monitoring of physical activity. To enable comparisons, many of the survey questions in the Life Situation Questionnaire were identical to those used in previous phases. The survey also examines lifestyle, personal views and the use of information technology. First, the respondents were asked questions on their education, work situation, and retirement, as well as the time spent on paid work, household tasks and other activities. The participants were invited to describe their work situation since 2010, report any periods of unemployment and assess their job satisfaction. Housing and income were explored through general questions on living arrangements and monthly earnings, and information was gathered on the spouse's employment status and job title. Family and other relationships were mapped by asking about partnerships, children and grandchildren, and who shares the household. Questions also covered support networks, the number of close friends and satisfaction with current friendships. The level of social support was assessed by asking whether the respondent had someone with whom they could discuss personal matters and problems. Statements concerning parental responsibility for the world and future generations, as well as satisfaction with life choices, were presented for comment. Leisure activities were surveyed by asking how often, during the past six months, the respondents had read or attended concerts, exhibitions or bars. Further questions explored hobbies such as DIY, singing in a group or playing an instrument, and assessed physical activity levels. The respondents ranked work, leisure, home and friends according to the satisfaction each provided. Their relationship with technology was examined by asking which devices (computer, tablet, smartphone) they used and how much time was spent on these for work and leisure. Questions also probed attitudes towards and dependence on internet use and gaming. Alcohol consumption was explored through several questions, including the amount consumed, reasons for drinking and for reducing intake, and any problems resulting from alcohol use. Smoking habits were assessed by asking how often respondents smoked and how soon after waking they had their first cigarette. Perceived health was examined by asking respondents to evaluate their own health and functioning. They were also asked to list symptoms experienced during the past six months and illnesses diagnosed by a doctor over the past ten years, as well as their use of medication. Personal views were gathered through a series of attitude statements. The respondents were asked whether they had achieved their goals, were satisfied with themselves and believed in their ability to influence their own development. Self-image was explored through questions such as whether they felt despair, had strong willpower or approached matters with confidence. They were also presented with personality descriptions to compare with themselves, for example whether they considered themselves reliable and balanced, energetic and active, timid and tense, or quiet and withdrawn. Further questions addressed the importance and significance of various aspects of life, such as art, technology, religion or social work. The respondents were asked whether they felt able to influence changes in their lives and how they viewed the future. They were invited to reflect on how much they believed their future depended on factors such as themselves, their past, external circumstances, luck, fate or God. Finally, they were asked how much they feared future challenges such as financial difficulties, relationship problems or environmental pollution, and how important they considered different aspects for the future, such as financial success, relationships, health or cultural life. Background variable used: the respondent's gender

Quarterly National Household Survey (QNHS) Module on Equality Q4 2010

No full text
The Quarterly National Household Survey (QNHS) began in September 1997 and ran until Q2 2017 when it was replaced by the Labour Force Survey (LFS). While the main purpose of the QNHS was the production of quarterly labour force estimates, the QHNS also conducted special modules on different social topics each quarter. A module on Equality was included in the Quarterly National Household Survey (QNHS) in the three months from October to December 2010 (quarter 4). The questionnaire referred to discrimination experienced in the two years previous to that time period. An equality module was also included on the QNHS in the fourth quarter of 2004. However, it should be noted that in 2009 the QNHS moved from seasonal to calendar quarters. Therefore, the 2004 survey was conducted from September to November. Please note that due to CSO restrictions, these files cannot be matched to their associated microdata files

The Intellectual Disability Supplement to the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (IDS-TILDA) Wave 2, 2013-2014

No full text
The Intellectual Disability Supplement to the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (IDS-TILDA) is a longitudinal study researching ageing in Ireland among people with an intellectual disability aged 40 and over. This study is the first of its kind in Europe, and the only study able to directly compare the ageing of people with an intellectual disability with the general ageing population. The underpinning values of IDS-TILDA are inclusion, choice, empowerment, person centred, the promotion of people with intellectual disability, the promotion of best practice and to contribute to the lives of people with intellectual disability. The objectives of IDS-TILDA are: to understand the health characteristics of people ageing with an intellectual disability; to examine the service needs and health service utilization of people ageing with an intellectual disability; to identify disparities in the health status of adults with an intellectual disability as compared to The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing’s (TILDA) findings for the general population; and to support evidence-informed policies, practices and evaluation. IDS-TILDA Wave 2 provides much needed data on the health, social, economic and environmental circumstances of 708 people as they grow older and how their circumstances change over a period of time

GLES Rolling Cross-Section 2025

Rolling cross-sectional studies are an instrument for recording changes in the political attitudes, opinions, and behaviour of the people surveyed. The GLES Rolling Cross-Section 2025 thus makes it possible to analyze election campaign dynamics among eligible voters on a daily basis. The combination of a pre-election survey with a post-election re-interview also makes it possible to analyze intra-individual changes in the course of the campaign. In the GLES Rolling Cross-Section 2025, a supplementary wave was also conducted to record stable characteristics. The German Longitudinal Election Study (GLES) is the central infrastructure project in Germany for the continuous collection and provision of high-quality data for national and international election research. The methodologically diverse surveys of the GLES make it possible to examine the political attitudes and behavior of potential voters and candidates. The GLES has been conducted in close cooperation between the German Society for Electoral Research (DGfW) and GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences since its inception. The GLES Rolling Cross-Section 2025 is a population survey that was conducted in as a rolling cross-section design (RCS design) before and after the 2025 federal election. The principle of RCS designs consists in distributing the implementation of a cross-sectional survey based on a random sample in a strictly controlled manner over a predefined period of time in such a way that the sub-samples of people surveyed on individual days each represent a random sample of the population. For this purpose, equally sized sub-samples (replicates) are drawn from a gross sample.

This project develops a novel procedure for proxying economic activity with daytime satellite imagery across time periods and spatial units, for which reliable data on economic activity are otherwise not available. In developing this unique proxy, we apply machine-learning techniques to a historical time series of daytime satellite imagery from the Landsat program dating back to 1984. Compared to satellite data on night light intensity, another common economic proxy, our proxy more precisely predicts economic activity at smaller regional levels and over longer time horizons. Our procedure is generalizable to any region in the world, and it has great potential for analyzing historical economic developments, evaluating local policy reforms, and controlling for economic activity at highly disaggregated regional levels in econometric applications. Therefore, we produce our proxy for any region in the world and publish the data as georeferend TIF files in this repository. In our paper, we demonstrate our measure’s usefulness for the example of Germany, where East German data on economic activity are unavailable for detailed regional levels and historical time series

Rhineland-Palatinate Monitor 2023

No full text
The first Rhineland-Palatinate Monitor of 2023 not only expands the steadily growing series of state-level monitors and provides an independent analytical instrument for examining the political culture of the federal state, but also aims to enhance comparability across the federal states through their respective monitors. In doing so, the political culture of Rhineland-Palatinate can be contrasted in particularly meaningful ways, allowing region-specific issues and attitudinal patterns to be addressed more precisely. The inaugural Rhineland-Palatinate Monitor is aligned with other existing monitors in order to maximize these possibilities for comparison. The representative survey was conducted around four thematic areas: (1) democracy and society, (2) state politics, (3) political participation, and (4) social participation. In total, 67 items were administered to assess attitudes toward democracy, to examine key issues in Rhineland-Palatinate, and to explore societal tensions.

Health Survey for England, 2022: Special Licence

Abstract copyright UK Data Service and data collection copyright owner. The Health Survey for England (HSE) is a series of surveys designed to monitor trends in the nation's health. It was commissioned by NHS Digital and carried out by the Joint Health Surveys Unit of the National Centre for Social Research and the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at University College London. The aims of the HSE series are:to provide annual data about the nation's health;to estimate the proportion of people in England with specified health conditions;to estimate the prevalence of certain risk factors associated with these conditions;to examine differences between population subgroups in their likelihood of having specific conditions or risk factors;to assess the frequency with which particular combinations of risk factors are found, and which groups these combinations most commonly occur;to monitor progress towards selected health targetssince 1995, to measure the height of children at different ages, replacing the National Study of Health and Growth;since 1995, monitor the prevalence of overweight and obesity in children. The survey includes a number of core questions every year but also focuses on different health issues at each wave. Topics are revisited at appropriate intervals in order to monitor change.Further information about the series may be found on the NHS Digital Health Survey for England; health, social care and lifestyles webpage, the NatCen Social Research NatCen Health Survey for England webpage and the University College London Health and Social Surveys Research Group UCL Health Survey for England webpage.Changes to the HSE from 2015:Users should note that from 2015 survey onwards, only the individual data file is available under standard End User Licence (EUL). The household data file is now only included in the Special Licence (SL) version, released from 2015 onwards. In addition, the SL individual file contains all the variables included in the HSE EUL dataset, plus others, including variables removed from the EUL version after the NHS England disclosure review. The SL version of the dataset contains variables with a higher disclosure risk or are more sensitive than those included in the EUL version and is subject to more restrictive access conditions (see Access information). Users are advised to obtain the EUL version to see if it meets their needs before considering an application for the SL version.COVID-19 and the HSE:Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the HSE 2020 survey was stopped in March 2020 and never re-started. There was no publication that year. The survey resumed in 2021, albeit with an amended methodology. The full HSE resumed in 2022, with an extended fieldwork period. Due to this, the decision was taken not to progress with the 2023 survey, to maximise the 2022 survey response and enable more robust reporting of data. See the NHS Digital Health Survey for England - Health, social care and lifestyles webpage for more details. The Safeguarded (also known as EUL) Access version of the HSE 2022 is available under SN 9469.Main Topics:Core topics General healthLongstanding illnessSmokingAverage weekly alcohol consumptionDrinking (heaviest day in last week)Consent to data linkage (NHS central register, HES)Socio-economic information: sex, age, income, education, employment etcPrescribed medications (health visit) Additional topics Doctor diagnosed hypertension and diabetesSocial care receipt and provisionFruit and vegetable consumptionPhysical activityEating disordersLoneliness Measurements Height and weightBlood pressure (health visit)Waist and hip circumference (health visit)Saliva sample (health visit)Urine sample (health visit)Blood sample for cholesterol, glycated haemoglobin (health visit)Blood sample for environmental chemical exposure (human biomonitoring)</ul
