Aineisto on kerätty alun perin pro gradu -tutkimukseen, jossa selvitettiin, millaisia kokemuksia peruskoulun opettajilla on esihenkilöltä saadusta tuesta väkivaltaisiin tilanteisiin liittyen. The data consists of writings in which elementary school teachers and special education teachers describe situations of mental or physical violence they have encountered in their work, as well as any support they may have received from their superiors after the incident. The data was originally collected for a master's thesis that examined the experiences of elementary school teachers regarding the support they received from their superiors in situations involving violence. The original target group for the collection was special education teachers in primary schools, but as the collection was in progress, the target group was expanded in order to obtain a sufficient number of writings. As a result, writings were ultimately collected from all primary school teachers. Background information was asked about gender, age group, education, and work experience in years

European Union Survey of Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC), 2004

    No full text
The Survey on Income and Living Conditions (SILC) in Ireland is a household survey covering a broad range of issues in relation to income and living conditions. It is the official source of data on household and individual income and also provides a number of key national poverty indicators, such as the ‘at risk of poverty’ rate, the consistent poverty rate and rates of enforced deprivation. The primary focus of the Survey on Income and Living Conditions (SILC) is the collection of information on the income and living conditions of different types of households in Ireland, in order to derive indicators on poverty, deprivation and social exclusion. It is a voluntary survey of private households. The SILC Anonymised Microdata File (AMF) contains both personal and household level data. Household data is at present duplicated for each member of the household. If performing household level analysis, please be aware of this and subset the data to include a single entry per household (interview_hh = 1). Please note: In 2020 AMF was revised to be more in line with the SILC RMF. Variables were renamed in accordance with Eurostats Doc65, which provides methodological guidelines and description of EU-SILC target variables. The target variables within the AMF are data on household and individual income as well as a number of key national poverty indicators, therefore variables identified as being not relevant to SILC were removed from the AMF. Furthermore, additional statistical disclosure controls were also implemented in the revisions so as to adhere to updates of the Legislation, Governance & Data Policies of the CSO. Please note: SILC AMF data is cross-sectional microdata in which household and/or individuals cannot be tracked over time. The household id variables in each cross sectional file are randomly generated and cannot be linked between yearly datasets

CUPID COVID-19 Survey: parents’ experience of seeking healthcare for their children during COVID-19, March to May 2020.

    No full text
The CUPID COVID-19 National Parents Survey, with a sample of 1,044 parents living throughout Ireland, was conducted from 5th June to 10th June 2020 to assess parents’ experience of seeking healthcare for their children during the restrictive public health measures or “lockdown” introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey asked if parents needed to access healthcare for their child since the schools closed on 12th March and the lockdown was announced, and if they decided not to access the healthcare needed. They we also asked their level of hesitancy on accessing such healthcare during lockdown and as the country entered Phase One of reopening, the public health stage at the time of the survey. Respondents were asked if they had one or more of the following concerns on accessing healthcare for their child: contracting Covid-19, services would be too busy, the Government advice was to stay away, the service was needed by others, worried about being judged for using a service if it wasn’t an emergency, not having a car and didn’t want to use public transport, or some other reason. Those who did access healthcare for their child indicated the type of healthcare accessed including face-to-face consultation with a GP, video or telephone consultation, attendance at the emergency department, or accessing another service. Further questions included where respondents sought information about healthcare during the public health restrictions, the health status of members of their household, their experience of contracting and isolating due to COVID-19, and usual accessibility of healthcare. The stress scale from the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21) (Lovibond & Lovibond, 1995) was also included in the survey. Demographic information was captured on gender, age, marital status, medical card/GP card ownership, county of resident, level of education, age and number of children, and if the respondent was a healthcare worker

    Healthy Ireland Survey 2024

    No full text
The annual Healthy Ireland Survey is a repeated cross-sectional annual study that provides an up-to-date picture of the nation’s health along with a robust and credible baseline set of data on a range of health behaviours which have significant impact on individual health outcomes. These data are being used by the Department of Health to inform current and future policy direction and programme development and implementation. The Survey reports on many lifestyle behaviours such as smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, active travel, weight management, diet and nutrition, health service utilization patterns, dental health, chronic disease incidence, mental health, sleep patterns, dementia awareness, caring responsibilities, women’s health and sexual health. Since 2014, the Healthy Ireland Survey has been administered on an annual basis by Ipsos on behalf of the Department of Health. The first 5 Waves, 2015-2019, were conducted via computer aided personal interview (CAPI). Since 2021, the Survey has been conducted by computer aided telephone interview (CATI). There is no survey for 2020 as the in-person field collection was abandoned due to the onset of the pandemic. The Survey Reports are available online at the following link and contain additional details regarding content, results and methodology: <a href="https://www.gov.ie/en/policy-information/706608-healthy-ireland-policies/#the-healthy-ireland-survey"</a

Survey of Lifestyle, Attitudes and Nutrition (SLÁN), 1998

    No full text
The 1998 SLÁN survey was conducted by the Centre for Health Promotion Studies at NUI Galway on behalf of the Health Promotion Unit of the Department of Health. One of the main purposes of the survey was to produce baseline information for the ongoing surveillance of health and lifestyle related behaviours in the Irish adult population. A self-administered questionnaire, an adapted version of the semi- quantitative food frequency questionnaire (SQFFQ) used in the British arm of the European Prospective Investigation of Cancer (EPIC) study (Riboli, 1997) was developed for use in SLAN. The EPIC food frequency instrument has been validated extensively in several populations (Bingham et al., 1997) and used in a survey of diet and lifestyle of Irish women (NNSC, 1998) and validated using food diaries and a protein biomarker in volunteers of the National University of Ireland, Galway (Harrington, 1997 Thesis). There were eight sections in the questionnaire which covered general health (including self-reported height and weight), exercise, tobacco, illegal substances, accidents, household details and dietary habits

National Survey of Public Attitudes to Disability in Ireland, 2017

    No full text
The National Disability Authority (NDA) commissioned Behaviour & Attitudes (B&A) to conduct a nationally representative survey on public attitudes to disability in Ireland in 2017. The NDA previously conducted national surveys on attitudes to disability in 2001, 2006 and 2011. The survey used quota sampling and was conducted using computer assisted personal interviews (CAPI) during January and February 2017. Data were weighted on gender, age, region, socio-economic status and disability status. Data from 2017 were compared to 2011 and 2006 data and these datasets were also weighted to their respective census year. Multivariate analysis was carried out to determine what factors influenced the key findings. The survey covered a range of topics on attitudes relating to disability. These included awareness of disability and attitudes towards particular types of disability. Survey questions explored attitudes towards children with disabilities in mainstream education, the employment of people with disabilities as well as relationships, neighbourhood, and the social wellbeing of people with and without disabilities. It also compared people with and without disabilities. A total sample of 1294 respondents aged 18 years and older participated in the survey. The sample was comprised of an initial sample of 1,021 respondents, of whom 166 had a disability, and a booster sample of 273 people with disabilities, giving a total of 439 people with a disability and 855 without. The 2017 NDA national survey data suggests that positive attitudes towards every kind of disability including mental health difficulties are increasing when compared to the 2011 findings, which have largely returned to, or exceeded the 2006 findings. Despite the apparent improvement in positive attitudes it is essential to continue increasing employment opportunities, promoting inclusive education and reducing stigma associated with mental illness
