The Labour Force Survey (LFS) is a large-scale, nationwide survey of households in Ireland conducted by the Central Statistics Office. It is designed to produce quarterly labour force estimates that include the official measure of employment and unemployment in the state (ILO basis). This survey replaced the Quarterly National Household Survey (QNHS) from Q3 2017. The QNHS began in September 1997, replacing the annual April Labour Force Survey (LFS). Each quarter the LFS produces data among others on: Numbers unemployed Persons in employment Labour force participation rates Inactive population (not in the labour force) Sectoral breakdown (Nace Rev. 2) of those in employment Breakdown of headline data by age, sex and region Persons in employment classified by occupation Seasonally adjusted headline series Data on family composition

    No full text
The Intellectual Disability Supplement to the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (IDS-TILDA) is a longitudinal study researching ageing in Ireland among people with an intellectual disability aged 40 and over. This study is the first of its kind in Europe, and the only study able to directly compare the ageing of people with an intellectual disability with the general ageing population. The underpinning values of IDS-TILDA are inclusion, choice, empowerment, person centred, the promotion of people with intellectual disability, the promotion of best practice and to contribute to the lives of people with intellectual disability. The objectives of IDS-TILDA are: to understand the health characteristics of people ageing with an intellectual disability; to examine the service needs and health service utilization of people ageing with an intellectual disability; to identify disparities in the health status of adults with an intellectual disability as compared to The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing’s (TILDA) findings for the general population; and to support evidence-informed policies, practices and evaluation. IDS-TILDA Wave 3 provides much needed data on the health, social, economic and environmental circumstances of 609 people as they grow older and how their circumstances change over a period of time

The data is a follow-up study consisting of two different questionnaires designed to find out how family, friends and the school environment influence young people's social attitudes and participation. The data was collected as part of the project "Education, Political Efficacy and Informed Citizenship (EPIC)", funded by the Academy of Finland and The Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland. The first wave of the survey asked, for example, respondents' opinions and thoughts about their schools, classes and teachers, and the teaching methods used in civic education classes. In addition, respondents were asked about their sense of belonging to different groups of people. They were then asked to assess their own skills in different social and political areas and to rate the skills they had acquired in civic education classes in these areas. Interest in and understanding of politics was also asked, as well as their own perceived level of influence. This was followed by a series of questions relating to the respondent's own life and social issues, and questions about participation in various groups or organizations and other efforts to influence social issues were asked. Further questions were asked about the things respondents see as important to do as an adult and about future voting activity after the age of 18. The question also asked where respondents get information on political and social issues and asked about their thoughts on climate change. Finally, respondents were asked to assess the political views of their own caregivers and the extent to which their perceptions of politics and society have been influenced by different parties. The second wave was collected two years after the first wave to see how respondents' attitudes had evolved over the two years. The second wave survey consisted of similar questions and statements as the first wave survey. The questionnaire asked, among other things, about respondents' thoughts and opinions on various social and political statements, thoughts about school and teachers, statements about respondents' carers and friends, the extent to which respondents' perceptions of politics and society were influenced by different parties and also about their attempts to influence social issues. Background variables included, among others, gender, year of birth (categorized), language used at home, how long they have lived in Finland, type of place of residence, parents' education, membership of a church or other religious community, parents' occupation (categorized by ISCO), and degree studied

The study CCSA ("Cross-Cutting Skills Assessment In Secondary School Practice") is a research project at the University of Bern. The primary objective of CCSA is to contribute to educational research in Switzerland and Ukraine, with a focus on reforming education goals and teaching methods at the secondary school level. CCSA's first aim is to investigate the practice of cross-cutting skills assessment in secondary schools in Switzerland and Ukraine (on the ISCED level 2) to develop a better understanding of the success factors and teachers’ needs in cross-cutting skills assessment activities. For this purpose, the CCSA field trial is designed to answer the following questions: How do teachers in Switzerland and Ukraine perceive the importance of specific cross-cutting skills for their students' future life in society? Which cross-cutting skills are currently fostered by teachers in the classroom in the countries surveyed? What strategies do teachers in Switzerland and Ukraine use for assessing students’ cross-cutting skills, and how do they document these assessments? What are the needs of teachers in Switzerland and Ukraine regarding the promotion and assessment of cross-cutting skills? What school- and country-specific differences and similarities can be recognized concerning future requirements, current teaching practices, and the needs of teachers? The study of the project's issues from the perspective of schoolteachers and experts (scientists and didactics specialists) enables a comprehensive analysis within the respective educational environments. The summarization of existing experience and pedagogical knowledge can be beneficial to Ukrainian and Swiss teachers, as well as students in both countries studying at pedagogical institutions. CCSA, therefore, aims to provide a data source for researchers and educational policymakers to support the development of practical materials for teachers based on the analysis of current practices for assessing cross-cutting skills in the learning process of secondary school students

The Swiss Job Market Monitor (SJMM, www.stellenmarktmonitor.uzh.ch) is devoted to a systematic monitoring and analysis of the Swiss labor market. For this purpose, SJMM has compiled a dataset of job openings in the Swiss economy dating back to 1950. The dataset is based on representative samples of job advertisements drawn from all advertising channels that are relevant at the given time. In 2001, the project switched from its original retrospective survey design to a fully compatible prospective monitoring of the job market that also covers online advertising media. In addition, the initial limitation of the ad survey to German-speaking Switzerland was expanded to cover all of Switzerland from 2001 on. In the course of the ad survey, the complete ad text is first recorded to enable text-based as well as qualitative analyses of the development of job openings. Second, the information provided in the job ads on the requirements and characteristics of the job openings, the person wanted, and the business placing the job ad are recorded and prepared for quantitative statistical analyses. Third, newly developed NLP-based models are used to extract fine-grained information from the ad texts. These extractions are processed for further analysis and linked to international labor market ontologies such as ESCO and O*NET. The database created in this manner thus opens a multitude of new opportunities for qualitative and quantitative social scientific analyses of both long-term and current trends in the Swiss labor market. This obviously applies to developments in the volume and structure of job openings and the skills demand in the Swiss economy. Yet its potential goes far beyond by offering a much wider range of opportunities for research once the SJMM data are combined with data from other sources (TREE, SAKE, and others more)

Discourses on Islam play a central role in Switzerland and many other countries, as they are used to renegotiate society's self-conception and also serve as a projection screen for various topics. On one hand, Muslims are the object of conflict here, but in their role as subjects of conflict they can among other things draw on their particular religious thought patterns. Content and aim of the research project Conflicts represent a form of socialisation that is used to negotiate self-understandings, boundaries and belonging. Currently, such conflictual negotiation processes are particularly evident in Europe when it comes to Islam, whereby central issues of conflict are often personalised in the figure of the imam. On one hand, the project uses media reports, political initiatives and self-positioning to analyse the public discourse on imams in Switzerland on the basis of conflict sociological considerations. On the other hand, religiously influenced interpretations of conflict are analysed on the basis of four selected contemporary thinkers from the Christian and four from the Muslim tradition. The combination of a sociological and a theological-social ethical approach serves not only to assess the content, structure, function and integrative power of conflicts, but also to identify potential religious resources for conflict resolution. Scientific and social context The project makes a contribution to the discourse on imams and their role in Switzerland, as well as to the way society deals with Islam-related conflicts in general. The theological interpretations of conflict are also suitable as a point of reference for counter-discourses on Salafist and anti-Muslim conflict identities

Plus d'info ici https://wp.unil.ch/medicaments-sous-controle/ et la https://data.snf.ch/grants/grant/182477When hearing the word “narcotic”, we usually first think of illicit drugs. However, many so-called narcotics are medications that have been duly tested and authorized in Switzerland. The current regulations regarding controlled substances must strike a balance between two opposing imperatives: to control illegal and dangerous substance trafficking and at the same time ensure that the necessary substances are available to people with health problems. Finding the “right balance” between these two objectives is the subject of lively debate and the aim of our project. Specifically, this project aims to analyse how products that meet both the definition of a narcotic (controlled substance) and the definition of a medicinal product are regulated in Switzerland. This project develops a novel procedure for proxying economic activity with daytime satellite imagery across time periods and spatial units, for which reliable data on economic activity are otherwise not available. In developing this unique proxy, we apply machine-learning techniques to a historical time series of daytime satellite imagery from the Landsat program dating back to 1984. Compared to satellite data on night light intensity, another common economic proxy, our proxy more precisely predicts economic activity at smaller regional levels and over longer time horizons. Our procedure is generalizable to any region in the world, and it has great potential for analyzing historical economic developments, evaluating local policy reforms, and controlling for economic activity at highly disaggregated regional levels in econometric applications. Therefore, we produce our proxy for any region in the world and publish the data as georeferend TIF files in this repository. In our paper, we demonstrate our measure’s usefulness for the example of Germany, where East German data on economic activity are unavailable for detailed regional levels and historical time series
