Path-Based Explanations for Knowledge Graph-Driven Course Recommendation
No full textInternational audienceRecommendation systems (RS) play a key role in e-learning by guiding learners toward relevant educational resources. Yet, the integration of domain knowledge to enhance both accuracy and explainability remains underexplored. This paper presents an explainable e-learning RS grounded in an educational Knowledge Graph (KG). The KG is constructed by extracting and linking key course concepts, and leveraged through embedding techniques to improve recommendation quality. To ensure transparency, we propose a path-based explanation mechanism that identifies and ranks user-course connections using a scoring function combining similarity measures and random walk probabilities. A case study demonstrates that the approach not only improves recommendation accuracy but also generates diverse, interpretable explanations, contributing to more transparent and trustworthy systems.</div

The Public Water Services in France : between public and private management
No full textInternational audienceSince the early 2000s, France has witnessed a marked shift towards the remunicipalisa- tion of public water services. The model of private management is currently undergoing a period of crisis, as public sentiment strongly favours the reappropriation of these essen- tial services by local authorities. This study sets out to identify the historical context of public water services management in France. It offers a number of explanations for the observed reversion to public management, chief among them being the growing demand for transparency within public services and the desire to take account a social dimension in the management of public services, particularly in light of the formal acknowledge- ment of access to water as a fundamental human right. The movement towards the remunicipalisation of public water services is propelled by a vigorous social demand, reflecting the citizenry’s aspiration to participate more effectively in the governance of water. It signals, moreover, the emergence of a civic counterbalance to both State author- ity and private sector interests
Epistemic Violence Against Female Artists and Scientists in Latin America on Wikipedia: Unveiling the Imbalance Between Minority and Majority Worlds using Graphs
No full textInternational audienceThe democratization of the Internet and the perceived "universal" access to online content have long given the impression of progress and inclusion. However, digital content overwhelmingly represents knowledge produced in English and within the majority world, reflecting only a fraction of the knowledge created throughout history across diverse cultures. Epistemic violence remains pervasive in much of the moderated content online, yet its extent is challenging to measure. This paper introduces a novel approach to address this gap by proposing an Epistemic Violence Index applied to Wikipedia biographies of Latin American women scientists and writers. Our study involves constructing a graph representation of the Wikipedia network connections for leading female figures in science and literature from the 19th and 20th centuries. The analysis highlights their connections with influential voices both within the region and in the majority world, evaluating the reciprocity and imbalance of these relationships. By leveraging these graphs, we compute an Epistemic Violence Index based on an intersectional set of variables, including gender identity, socio-economic status, and race, providing an initial step toward quantifying and addressing this persistent issue.</div
