Since the late 1990s, the growing framing of migration in terms of security risks in destination countries has been the subject of extensive literature, particularly in the fields of political science and critical geography. Surprisingly, however, the social sciences have paid very little attention to migrants’ perceptions of migration risks, unlike migration economics, which quickly addressed this question, making risk and its management by migrant populations a crucial component of migratory rationalities. The topical collection “On the Roads of Migration: Circulations, Risk, and the Managing of Uncertainty” aims to address this gap within the field of social sciences. The contributions acknowledge the predominant role of risks in the migratory experience and seek to initiate a structured reflection on this hyper-central yet neglected aspect of mobility trials. In response to this observation, they lay down an initial series of empirical and theoretical foundations to chart this research field, relying on case studies rooted in diverse geographical areas—French Guiana, the northern French coastline, the Île-de-France region, and Southeast Asia—and focusing on various populations, including asylum seekers, Roma populations, and migrant workers.
Voter Autrement 2012 - Dataset of the In Situ Experiments: In April 2012, a voting experiment was conducted during the French presidential election. During this experiment, participants were asked to test alternative voting methods to elect the French president, more precisely approval voting and evaluative voting. The experiment took place in situ in polling stations during the first round of the presidential election (using paper ballots). A total of 2 340 participants took part in this experiment. This paper provides a description of the dataset.

Self-perceived Action Competence for Sustainability and Environmental Attitudes
International audienceWithin environmental education research, there is an ongoing interest in trying to understand what factors might lead to pro-environmental action and pro-environmental behaviours. This study explores the relationship between environmental attitudes and self-perceived action competence for sustainability by combining a questionnaire measuring self-perceived action competence for sustainability (SPACS-Q) with a questionnaire measuring environmental attitudes, the 2 factor Model of Environmental Values (2-MEV-Q), among 236 primary school student teachers in France. Our results show that the SPACS-Q adapted to the French context is largely valid within this sample and that the factor Preservation in the 2-MEV model is a predictor for SPACS. This connection is strongest for the factor Willingness to act. Likewise, we conclude that age impacts the SPACS factor Confidence in one’s own influence, whereas other variables such as training in sustainable development issues do not impact any of the SPACS factors. The study provides some insights into how self-perceived action competence and pro-environmental attitudes might be promoted through education
“I Am the Minority of the Minority of the Minority, I Can’t Help Thinking About My Brothers”: An Intersectional Approach to Self-Care Strategies Developed by LGBTQIA+ Adolescents and Young People During COVID-19 Quarantine in Brazil
International audienceWe aimed to understand how COVID-19 impacted LGBTQIA+ adolescents’ and young people’s well-being and to explore self-care strategies developed by them to address such effects. A qualitative investigation was conducted with adolescents and young people including 39 men who have sex with men and transgender women aged 15–22 years in Brazil. Data collection comprised digital-based diaries and semi-structured interviews and occurred during physical distancing measures. We adopted an iterative thematic analysis from an intersectional lens to examine how participants’ multiple social identities—such as gender, sexuality, race, and class—influenced their self-care practices. The process of reflecting on and adapting to COVID-19-related restrictions prompted participants to recognize experiences that impacted their well-being throughout their lives, such as stigma, discrimination, and violence. Social class emerged as the primary factor in social differentiation, rather than race, leading to varied effects of the pandemic on participants’ lives. In their quest for a sense of wholeness, participants became more critical of their relationships, often choosing to end toxic and abusive connections while seeking new sources of social support as a key strategy for protecting their well-being. Transgender participants noted that certain aesthetics within the transgender community could be oppressive rather than emancipatory. Engaging with new social media circles and participating in volunteer work were important forms of community engagement, particularly among Black participants. Future research on the long-term effects of COVID-19 on the well-being of adolescents should prioritize articulating structural drivers of inequality in qualitative health research
