Career development impact on architecture undergrads’ employment: learning motivation mediation
This study, utilizing the expectancy-value theory, examines the relationship between career development, learning motivation, and employment capabilities among Chinese architecture undergraduates. Surveying 319 students from five Chinese universities, the research reveals that career development has a positive impact on both employment capabilities and learning motivation. Learning motivation, in turn, positively affects employment capabilities and acts as a mediator between career development and employment capabilities. These findings underscore the significance of proactive career planning, goal setting, and intrinsic learning motivation in enhancing students' employment capabilities. For practical applications, educational institutions can design comprehensive career development programs to assist students in defining career goals and igniting intrinsic motivation for learning, thereby fostering career success and employability among architecture students
Mathematics education in the curricula of the preservice teacher in early childhood education in Spain
The objective of this research is to describe the situation of mathematical training in the early childhood education degree curricula in Spain through the analysis of the teaching guides of the subjects with mathematical content offered in the different Spanish universities. The aim is to identify the typology of subjects, the number of subjects offered, and the recommended bibliography. The methodology used is descriptive, exploratory, ex post facto, and census. For this purpose, the registry of universities, centers, and degrees was first consulted during the 2019-2020 academic year to obtain a list of all the Spanish universities that offer degrees in early childhood education and, therefore, to be able to download the corresponding teaching guides. Of the 91 universities in Spain, the early childhood education degree is taught in 66. Likewise, 101 subjects with mathematical content have been identified, although only 99 are available for analysis. Most are compulsory, have a study load of six European credit transfer system (ECTS) credits, and are taught in the third year of the degree. The recommended bibliography mainly concentrates on publications from 2001-2010 and mostly on book references
Online problem-based learning and 3D digital books to improve pre-service teachers’ scientific literacy
Scientific literacy skill is needed by pre-service physics teachers (PSPTs) since it involves mastering thinking and using scientific thinking in recognizing and addressing social issues. However, low scientific literacy for PSPTs is a problem that needs to be solved, resulting in effectively teaching science to their students. Therefore, to increase the scientific literacy of PSPTs, this study aims to develop an online problem-based learning assisted with digital books with 3D animation (OPBLA3DB). This study employs a quasi-experimental design for educational research with subject 72 PSPTs in one university in Indonesia. The data were collected using written tests, questionnaires, observation sheets, and validity sheets. The findings of this study demonstrate how highly valid and reliable the research tools developed are. The implementation results also show how practical learning is. This teaching model can improve PSPTs’ scientific literacy effectively, along with obtaining positive responses from them. This study implies that the OPBLA3DB model can be widely applied to enhance scientific literacy
Determining youths’ computational thinking skills using confirmatory factor analysis
As technological advancements shape the workforce, computational thinking skills (CTS) are becoming increasingly crucial. The objective of the study is to explore the potential mediating role of professional development and career planning in the association between robotic coding and software and computational thinking. The study selected 308 youths using simple random sampling and the collected data was subjected to structural equation modelling (SEM) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) using SmartPLS. Additionally, demographic data were analyzed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). The results concluded that the instrument adopted fulfilled the requirements and was valid for measuring CTS. This indicates that the instrument effectively assessed the participants’ proficiency in CTS. The findings of this study have implications for addressing the skills gaps among youths. The outcomes of this research can aid in designing educational interventions and policies that focus on developing computational thinking skills among new graduates. By fostering these skills, youths can better adapt to the demands of the rapidly evolving technological landscape and contribute effectively to the industries and job market influenced by industry 4.0. Further research on longitudinal studies may be beneficial to assess the long-term impact of CTS development initiatives on reducing skills gaps and ensuring youths are equipped for future workforce requirements
Students’ well-being development in the classroom: a mixed-method study
Students’ well-being is a fundamental goal in education. The school has a strategic role in developing students’ well-being. This study elaborates on teachers’ classroom activities to develop students’ well-being. The research employed a mixed-method sequential explanatory approach. There were 1,100 students from 11 junior high schools in East Java Province, Indonesia, provided quantitative data. Four teachers provided qualitative data. Descriptive and regression analysis techniques were used for analyzing quantitative data, while thematic analysis was used for analyzing qualitative data. The results show that the hypothesis is accepted. It means that classroom climate affects students’ well-being. The findings also showed four teacher strategies for developing students’ well-being, namely: creating harmonious relationships with students, developing student potential, helping students with difficulties, and creating rules to make students comfortable being in school. The ability of teachers to manage learning in the classroom affects the high level of students’ well-being. The results have implications for the development of students’ well-being through positive teachers teaching
Servant leadership’s impact on trust, commitment, and performance in higher education
This research examined the relationship between servant leadership (SL), organizational trust (OT), organizational commitment (OC), and task performance (TP). It employed a quantitative research design with partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and bootstrap estimation. Data were collected through a survey of 111 lecturers from 12 universities in Eastern Indonesia. It found that SL does not affect TP and OC. Meanwhile, OT affects OC but not TP. Further, OC does not affect TP. Therefore, OT does not affect TP through OC. Likewise, SL does not affect TP through OC. It practically implies that universities should be concerned the selection and placement of professional leaders. Successful professional leaders support and enhance the OC and TP of lecturers with SL. This study enriches leadership literature empirically examining SL, TP, OT, and OC in religious higher education. Besides, it provides evidence that SL in tertiary institutions does not exhibit a positive impact on lecturer performance. Institutional limitations lead to difficult situations and allow lecturers to accept reality. Furthermore, it uncovers challenges and demands the need for in-depth investigation of SL studies, which are paradoxical and contradictory to the previous SL theories and findings
Communication barriers in learning during pandemic and its pedagogical approaches
Communication is an essential element of life. It is crucial when it comes to education which is a tool for the welfare of society. People socialize via communication and thus perform desired behaviors. Because of these reasons, preventing communication barriers will provide a more specific field of experience between the sender and the receiver. The study sought to determine the communication barriers among students of Capiz State University, Mambusao Satellite College, Philippines, learning during the pandemic. The study used descriptive and qualitative methods. An in-depth interview using a semi-structured questionnaire was the researcher’s data-gathering instrument. Eight students were the study participants chosen based on the criteria. The study shows that communication between students and teachers has shifted to the digital realm using cell phones and social media. The primary focus of these conversations is module-related matters, and the students initiate the conversation due to module-related problems. Different pedagogical approaches highlight the need to improve communication and effective teaching and learning in the new normal. Despite the pandemic, it is recommended that students and teachers continue to communicate and collaborate. Teachers must also promote creativity in their classes and conduct intervention activities to help students overcome communication barriers
The construct validity of self-regulated learning questionnaire for senior high school students: a Rasch model analysis
Self-regulated learning (SLR) is a condition in which students actively participate in the process of acquiring knowledge, and it closely relates to students’ metacognitive, motivational, and behavioral aspects. In order to measure this variable, an instrument was developed by referring to the Zimmerman cycle in the form of a questionnaire. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the construct validity of SLR questionnaires designed for high school students through Rasch model analysis. The method employed was descriptive quantitative research. The analyzed questionnaire consists of 50 positive statements, rated on 4-point Likert scale, and arranged of forethought, performance, and self-reflection phases. Furthermore, the construct validity was conducted on 235 third grade (XII) high school students in Gunungsitoli City (Indonesia), with a gender distribution of 58.29% female and 41.70% male. The results showed that the questionnaire with 4-rating scales satisfied the criteria for validity, gender inclusiveness, and unidimensionality based on Rasch model analysis for 25 statements. The implication of this research shows that the SLR questionnaire developed is valid and can be used in wider field research, especially in mathematics learning
Awareness, acceptability, congruency, and attainability of an academic institution’s vision, mission, goals, and objectives
The mandate of Isabela State University is to deliver higher learning in the arts, agriculture, natural sciences, technology, and specialized disciplines. Hence, the institution executes a strategic vision, mission, goals, and objectives (VMGO) to meet the expectations of its stakeholders. This research examined the degree of stakeholders’ awareness, acceptance and understanding of the Isabela State University, College of Business, Accountancy, and Public Administration’s (ISU-CBAPA) VMGO; its congruence with the educational approaches of the faculty and resources of the institution in delivering quality education; and whether the program goals and objectives of the business programs were attained. A quantitative descriptive research method was used. The results indicate that the respondents are generally highly aware of the ISU-CBAPA VMGO and its dissemination. The respondents perfectly understand and accept the ISU-CBAPA VMGO and highly perceive the extent of its congruence with academic strategies, practices, and activities. In addition, all respondents perceived that the ISU-CBAPA VMGO is being realized and favorably attained, despite the significant differences found. Recommendations include intensifying VMGO dissemination to external stakeholders, emphasizing VMGO commitments toward its realization, and emphasizing improvement on the students’ development of professional skills, research capabilities, and competencies, and their readiness for employment and/or managing a business
Developing a growth mindset in education: a bibliometric analysis and its challenge during pandemic
The growth mindset is essential for learning because students encounter numerous obstacles during the pandemic. However, only a few studies have examined research trends in growth mindset pedagogy. In filling this gap, this study aims to conduct a bibliometric study using the growth mindset pedagogy during the pandemic. Data from 81 Scopus-sourced scholarly articles on growth mindset in education from 2020–2022 was used. VOSviewer qualitatively analyzed the data. Results showed that the research cluster’s growth mindset is diverse and adaptive to learning dynamics, notably during the COVID-19 pandemic. Several research clusters examined instructors, students, and parents’ roles in learning. Another cluster focuses on academic achievement and teacher efforts to improve student performance. The research addresses student issues like depression, academic fatigue, and suicide ideation. Research on a growth mindset in education has grown quantitatively since 2021. Clusters 1, 2, and 4, 5 have the most research on active learning design to improve student academic performance and accomplishment through teachers and other supporting elements. Even though academic fatigue can lead to depression and suicidal ideation, research on academic achievement-related student issues is scarce. In conclusion, a growth mindset can significantly enhance academic performance and solve learning problems
