How to conduct paired-t-test SPSS: comprehension in adsorption with bibliometric
The purpose of this study was to provide an example of how to calculate, measure, and interpret a paired t-test analysis using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). This study explained a step-by-step process to understand how t-test analysis can be used. To support this study, bibliometric research was added for showing the research trend in the use of t-test in a wide range of applications in the medical and educational fields. The analysis was carried out in two stages, namely prerequisite testing and hypothesis testing. In the prerequisite test, we did the normality (the Shapiro-Wilk) and the homogeneity test (Levene). Both tests were used for understanding what a significant impact happens on student learning outcomes from the statistical data gained during the teaching and learning process. Since this study provided step by step on conducting the t-test using SPSS and also how to interpret the results, this study is applicable for users to use in various research fields
Academic researchers, come on! Integrate social media in pedagogy
Teaching and learning have changed tremendously from traditional teaching to teaching integrating social media (SM) because of immense educational technological advancements and pedagogical innovation. Teachers, thus far, use conventional teaching as a seasoning tool and meet adaptability issues to the new learning environment. In this paper, we define SM, its related aspects, the vitality of social media networks (SMN), and how SM facilitates teaching and learning in tertiary education. It also contends with the benefits of their integration into pedagogy by teachers and students and answers a few fundamental questions on integrating SMN in teaching and learning. Accordingly, a few challenges do appear at different stages that scare us to reflect on SM as a distractor to pedagogy. To integrate and identify challenges in learning and teaching, we claim that a curriculum should be designed incorporating SMN as catalysts and managed as a learning community. The resources needed to operate SMN are also illustrated for both stakeholders to utilize and work together to collaborate for the learner-centered approach to teaching where learners use SMN to share, discuss course materials, post their assignments, get feedback, and interact beyond time, place, and location without any restrictions
Factors that influence global literacy: what is the most dominant?
Global literacy is a crucial ability to maintain the world’s peace. Several studies show that demographic factors influence the development of a person’s competence. However, the influence of demographic factors on global literacy has not yet been explored, especially in high school students. This research was conducted to determine the factors that most influence students’ global literacy in biology learning. The factors used in this research are gender, school profile (public or private school), and interest in learning biology. This study used a cross-sectional survey design with 2,759 students participating. Students’ global literacy was analyzed from a questionnaire of four aspects: exploration, communication, using the internet, and act for society. This study found that all the proposed factors influence students’ global literacy, but the factor that has the most dominant influence is the school profile. This research provides a new view regarding the influence of demographic factors on students’ global literacy. The government and related parties can use these results to design effective learning innovations to develop students’ global literacy
Variable frequency drive trainer kits for electronic control system subjects in vocational secondary schools
The objective of this study is to create a variable frequency drive (VFD) trainer kit, assess the practicality of the developed VFD educational tool, and evaluate its impact on the academic performance of industrial electronic engineering students, particularly in the area of electronic control systems. The study utilizes the ADDIE model and customized to meet the requirements and consists of the following phases: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. There were 130 respondents consisting of 122 vocational students, 1 industry expert/practitioner in the field of VFD, 1 vocational training center instructor, 4 vocational teachers, and 2 lecturers. Data were collected using questionnaires with 4 Likert scales from strongly agree to strongly disagree, feasibility assessment sheets from media experts and material experts, interviews, and electronic control system learning outcomes tests. The learning media receives a “highly feasible” and the job sheet obtains 67 “highly feasible”. Moreover, the level of effectiveness of the learning media receives a score of 0.724, indicating high effectiveness. Therefore, they have proven to be effective in enhancing student learning outcomes and developing their proficiency in controlling the speed of electric motors. This will help bridge the gap between the industry's skill requirements and the skills taught in schools
International class curriculum development model: a case study in Indonesia and Malaysia universities
Internationalization of the curriculum in holding international classes is an important topic in efforts to internationalize universities. This research aims to investigate the concept of curriculum design, implementation, and review of international class curricula. A qualitative approach with a case study design is applied to examine the best practices of one of the universities in Indonesia and Malaysia included in the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS-WUR) ranking. Data collection is carried out using documentation techniques by searching the university website, observing, and interviewing informants such as: program managers, students, lecturers, and academic support staffs. The research results show that: i) the curriculum design adopts the national curriculum by adding an introduction to local culture and language, as well as developing an international experience program; ii) curriculum implementation is carried out by opening special classes in Indonesia and regular classes in Malaysia, international experience is mandatory in Indonesia and optional in Malaysia; and iii) curriculum reviews are carried out periodically by the study program with support from the internal quality assurance unit involving stakeholders, to be further assessed through national and international accreditation. The research results become an initial reference for universities in the context of campus internationalization by opening international classes through curriculum internationalization
Student career centers measurement scale in higher education: exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis
Previous research shows that measuring the quality of student career centers in higher education is not yet fully standardized and is often limited to qualitative approaches. The lack of valid and reliable measuring tools regarding the student career center can hamper efforts to improve and develop this service. The aim of the research is to develop and test a scale for measuring the quality of student career centers in the context of higher education. A quantitative approach with exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used in this study, with respondents as many as 562 students from three different universities. Analysis and interpretation of the measurement scale evaluation was carried out in two stages, namely exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and continued with CFA. The research results identified that the dimensions of the role of career centers, utilization of career centers, management of workforce information, and fostering entrepreneurship are key elements that influence the effectiveness and impact of career centers in higher education. This scale can practically be used by each institution to evaluate the quality of the career centers they run, and can also be used by other researchers for further research
Challenges in engaging students with learning disabilities in food industry
Students with learning disabilities (SLD) with potential for independent living and economic contribution can thrive by participating in technical and vocational programs tailored to the food industry. To ensure that SLDs do not lag behind a thorough comprehension of the challenges they confront is imperative for all stakeholders, including parents, instructors, and the government. Thus, the study investigated the challenges of engaging in vocational education for SLD. This study utilized systematic literature review (SLR) methodology, which synthesizes research findings to generate new insights and understandings. This study identified six challenges that students with learning disabilities must overcome before entering the workforce. The challenges are i) employment difficulties; ii) lack of resilience; iii) mismatch between special educational institution and industry needs; iv) curriculum deficiency for students with learning disabilities; v) lack of parental involvement and employer support; and vi) insufficient understanding of job descriptions in the food industry. Findings from this study provide valuable insights into the challenges faced by SLDs seeking to be part of the food industry. This knowledge can facilitate further research to develop job profiles that align with their unique abilities, ultimately fostering their success in careers and enriching their lives
Reshaping physical education curricula through the outcomebased education philosophy
In the contemporary educational landscape, the outcome-based education (OBE) philosophy has emerged as a pivotal approach, emphasizing the achievement of specific outcomes in the learning process. This study delves into the intricate relationship between physical education assessment methodologies for university students under the OBE framework and their subsequent social adaptability. This study used a sample of 100 physical education elective students from Qilu Normal University. It employed experimental and questionnaire methods to measure the effects of OBEdriven physical education assessment. Preliminary findings suggest a positive correlation between holistic assessment techniques, which consider physical prowess and cognitive understanding, and enhanced social adaptability among students. This adaptability was measured in teamwork, conflict resolution, and interpersonal communication. The study underscores the potential of the OBE philosophy in reshaping physical education curricula, making it more aligned with the broader objective of holistic student development. Further research is recommended to explore the longterm impacts of such assessment methods on students’ post-university life and career trajectories
Concept of circular economy in technical and vocational education: a systematic literature review
Circular economy emphasizes the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle. By adopting circular economy concepts in the food system, we can ensure a more resilient and sustainable food supply. Aligned with this, technical and vocational education (TVET) plays an important role in bridging environmental education and the circular economy. Within the realm of TVET, students receive comprehensive training and skill development encompassing subjects related to food preparation and production. Additionally, TVET extends its purview to cover essential areas, including sustainable resource management, renewable energy technology, waste management, and the implementation of environmentally friendly production processes. However, the lack of clear understanding of the circular economy in the education sector requires this to be explored more deeply. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify the nature of published scientific literature on this topic and what are the emerging themes of circular economy of food system in TVET education. A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted using Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) and Dimensions databases. The result from this analysis revealed that four themes emerged: i) skills and competency; ii) implementation in food system; iii) economy, social, and environmental (ESE) impact; and iv) delivery of content. Based on the derived theme, the concept of circular economy is discussed consisting of four pillars in order to provide a clear understanding about the relation of circular economy in TVET education. The findings of this study expand knowledge and the literature on the circular economy within the context of TVET
Guided inquiry with Moodle to improve students’ science process skills and conceptual understanding
This study aims to improve and describe science process skills (SPS) and conceptual understanding (CU) college students through guided inquiry learning with Moodle (GI-Moodle). This quasi-experimental study used a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design. College students taking general biology courses at Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering (FSTT), Universitas Pendidikan Mandalika (UNDIKMA) participated in this study. They were divided into three classes: the experiment, control 1, and control 2. Their SPS was measured using an essay test instrument containing 18 items, while the CU was examined using 50 items multiple choice test and 5 items essay test. The obtained data were analyzed using the analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) test. The analysis results identified different average students’ SPS and CU before and after they attended the learning processes using GI-Moodle, guided inquiry with WhatsApp group (GI-WAG), and structured inquiry with WhatsApp group (SI-WAG). The experiment class attended learning using GI-Moodle presented a more significant increase of SPS and CU than the students attending the other two learning with GI-WAG and SI-WAG. Therefore, the GI with Moodle learning can be used to improve students’ SPS and CU during post COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, further studies are suggested to use a more number and broader participants and identify the influence of GI-Moodle on other variables
