    Social work students’ perception towards online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic

    As a result of the pandemic, Universities in Albania faced this challenge for the first time during the COVID-19 pandemic. This transition created difficulties for both teachers and students. By studying students’ perceptions towards online learning, it is possible to identify their specific challenges and needs. It can provide a valuable perspective for improving the online learning experience in the future. The objective of this study is to examine the perceptions of social work students regarding the effectiveness and interaction experiences associated with their online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic at the University of Shkodra “Luigj Gurakuqi”, Albania, compared to classroom learning. This is descriptive research and includes quantitative and qualitative data. A structural questionnaire was distributed and followed by descriptive and thematic analysis. The sample included 84 students in a bachelor's program in social work. Students favored online courses for improving technical skills, dedicating more time to homework, and preferring email for queries. However, social interaction did not rise compared to classrooms.     Using multimedia language lab to develop linguo-cultural competence

    The article is devoted to the problem of developing students’ linguo-cultural competence by means of a multimedia language laboratory. The multimedia language laboratory is used to create an artificial linguo-cultural environment in a regular classroom with the help of authentic audio and video materials carefully selected and methodically prepared by the teacher. The research is based on the methods of analysis and synthesis, comparison and generalization, theoretical methods related to the study of scientific literature, and experiment. In the course of the experiment, which involved 185 students, the researchers proved that the integrated use of multimedia language lab capabilities allows improving the performance and quality of students’ linguo-cultural competence, promotes the activation of educational and cognitive activities, and helps teachers in motivating their students to learn languages. The reliability of the experimental data was confirmed by the method of mathematical statistics. On the basis of the research results it is concluded that the use of the multimedia language lab makes the process of learning a foreign language more effective and dynamic and contributes to the development of students’ linguo-cultural competence

    Optimizing prospective teachers’ representational abilities through didactical design-based lesson study

    This research aimed to optimize the representational abilities of prospective mathematics teachers through the implementation of hypothetical lecture designs. The research design used was didactical design research combined with lesson study activities. Participants in this research were 29 prospective mathematics teacher students (18–21 years old) at a private university in Mataram, Indonesia. The researcher was the main instrument, with several additional instruments, one of which was the hypothetical lecture design. After conducting qualitative data analysis, it was concluded that there was an increase in the percentage of students’ representation abilities through the implementation of hypothetical lecture designs. This was because the course design facilitated students to solve problems by exploring, using, and presenting ideas in various forms of representation. Apart from that, the lecture design integrated QR codes, Quizizz, and inspirational YouTube videos to attract students’ interest or motivation during lectures, especially when solving problems

    Comprehension of linear systems with two unknowns in secondary education

    Over the past few years, teachers and researchers in mathematics education have emphasized the importance of students acquiring a comprehensive understanding of mathematics. However, during the process of learning mathematics in secondary education, some students encounter difficulties with various algebraic concepts. This article presents the key aspects of a descriptive and exploratory study conducted with two groups of Spanish students in the 4th year of secondary education, using a local model to interpret and evaluate their comprehension of linear systems of two equations with two unknowns. This research offers insights into the phenomenological, epistemological, and cognitive aspects exhibited by the students. In particular, the analysis focuses on the conceptual content of the students’ productions. Consistent with similar studies, the results indicate that the students’ comprehension of this algebraic knowledge is mainly technical, rote-based and non-meaningful, although some differences exist between the two groups under consideration. Furthermore, the article discusses how these findings may impact the design and implementation of educational proposals focused on improving students’ comprehension of this knowledge

    Instrument model to evaluate children-friendly school program at elementary school in Indonesia

    This study aims to develop an instrument to evaluate Indonesia’s children-friendly school program (CFSP). This development research is then used to evaluate CFSP in Indonesia. Instrument development using the context, input, process, product (CIPP) approach and outcome evaluation. The population of this study was all students in the provinces of Riau and Yogyakarta. The research sample is of the students taken randomly from 108 schools that run CFSP. Data analysis used content validity, construct analysis, construct reliability, and descriptive statistics to evaluate the current CFSP. The content validity result shows that only 50 can be used of 56 of the developed items. The construct validity analysis result shows that all indicators obtained from theoretical exploration are valid and reliable. The model fit test shows that the instruments and data obtained from the respondents fit statistically. The results of the evaluation analysis show that the CFSP has been running well, but three indicators are still at a poor level and need to be improved so that the CFSP can run optimally. Indicators needing improvement are the completeness of documents and indicators of student participation, parental participation, community institutions, and the business world. This instrument became the new product to evaluate completely CFSP program because this instrument evaluates not only the process or implementation program but also every process until the program's outcome. Recommendations that need to be considered by stakeholders are to improve CFSP performance so that CFSP can maximally develop student character

    Online lectures with local wisdom context: efforts to develop students’ higher-order thinking skills

    Indonesian students have low higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), so efforts are needed to improve these skills. This research aims to examine the effect of online learning with local wisdom context on students’ HOTS. The online learning in question is a lecture using Zoom Cloud Meeting (ZCM), Google Meet (GM), and a combination of GM and learning management system (LMS) SPADA Universitas Mataram. This study took a sample of 77 5th-semester students who took the 2021/2022 Physics Curriculum Study course at Universitas Mataram, Indonesia. This quantitative research method uses a posttest-only group design. The student HOTS data were obtained based on the essay test after the treatment. The data analysis used to test the research hypothesis is one-way ANOVA with calculations using the SPSS 25 application. The research results showed that the class combining GM and SPADA UNRAM with local wisdom context significantly affects students’ HOTS scores. The average score of HOTS with the lecture model is the highest compared to the other two classes. Thus, online lectures with local wisdom context using a combination of GM and SPADA UNRAM can be an effort to develop HOTS for prospective physics teacher students

    Lesson plan analysis protocol in assessing mathematics and science lessons

    Lesson planning is important in an educational setting. This study assessed how Rwandan tutors and teachers prepare lesson plans (LPs) before implementing them in a classroom. We employed a current and standard lesson plan analysis protocol (LPAP) developed by researchers from Rwanda to code data. We collected a representative sample of 119 mathematics and science subject lesson plans from teacher training college tutors and secondary school teachers for analysis to serve its usability. The study results revealed that only 11% of collected LPs were teachable as they were rated in both a good (70-79% scores) and very good (80-89% scores) range of LPAP interpretation. It was also found that the special education needs, lesson approaches, and lesson evaluation components got low mean scores (below 50%). These components were not given appropriate attention in developed LPs. Therefore, this study suggests that tutors and teachers build a quality lesson plan based on the standard LPAP

    Elementary teachers’ understanding of pedagogical content knowledge analysis disaster mitigation: stories from Indonesia

    The notion of pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) analysis disaster mitigation often been overlooked in the field of elementary school, because many teachers think that it is too early to practice the concept to student. This article attempts to explore elementary teachers’ understanding on PCK analysis. The method adopted in this research is case study. There were 16 elementary school teachers from six different schools in three different cities in province Riau, Indonesia, selected as participants. Data are collected through rubric the observations and interview using a grounded approach. Findings of this study highlight the extent to which elementary teachers are not yet ready to teach disaster mitigation due to their limited content knowledge and understanding of disaster mitigation. The findings also illuminate complexities faced by teachers in PCK in their teaching. The findings need school authorities must incorporate disaster mitigation materials into their teaching curriculum. Schools need to prepare teachers for teaching disaster mitigation by inviting first responders, such as firefighters, emergency service, or officials from National Board for Disaster Management. Finally, the teachers need to improve their understanding of disaster mitigation and their teaching technique to deliver the mitigation materials relevant to the students

    A scoping review on mapping the digital leadership constructs for educational settings: what we can learn?

    Another style of leadership utilized in the field of education, notably digital leadership, has become more prevalent. Studies on digital leadership are receiving more attention, but there has not been much focus on scoping reviews. To determine the constructs of digital leadership, this study undertakes a scoping review. Accordingly, a scoping review on human-influenced and non-human-influenced constructs in measuring digital leadership was carried out in this study. This scoping review follows six processes: i) identification of the research question; ii) literature research; iii) selection of relevant studies; iv) charting the information; v) collating, summarizing, and reporting of study results; vi) discussion of the results and implications for future research. A scoping review was conducted via the Web of Science, Scopus, and Google databases to identify empirical studies on constructs in digital leadership since 2014. Next, the titles and abstracts for selected full-text articles were screened manually. Data from the included articles were charted and summarized. To develop specific and empirical data for measuring digital leadership, the study found that 22 constructs were influenced by humans and three constructs were non-human-influenced. Interpersonal and intrapersonal skills were separated from the constructs that were influenced by humans, with 15 constructs constituting intrapersonal skills and seven constructs constituting interpersonal skills. The results will help identify the crucial components of successful digital leadership. Future research is warranted in creating programs such as workshops, training, and conferences to promote digital leadership and further improve the study

    Sustainable entrepreneurial culture in promoting innovation: a higher education perspective

    This research aimed to build a quadruple-helix partnership model between universities, government, industry, and community from the higher education (HE) perspective in creating various innovations to support sustainable regional socio-economic development. This study used exploratory quantitative research to develop, predict the model, and explain the empirical evidence. In addition to the model, this study found that institutional sustainable entrepreneurial culture (SEC) could be developed by transforming the university into an entrepreneurial university (EU) and applying sustainable development goals (SDGs) principles to teaching-researching-community service activities, management and governance, and institutional leadership. This study also confirmed that universities with an SEC cannot directly affect the emergence of various innovations sourced from knowledge and research results but must be mediated by internal consensus within academia and external consensus among partnership actors. The research contributions are aimed at: i) HE policymakers who will transform their institutions into EU as a first step in carrying out the university’s third mission; ii) HE will build quadruple helix partnerships; and iii) Micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) which will take advantage of the innovations offered in the quadruple-helix. In addition, this research deepens the Etzkowitz partnership path model in which HE, a source of knowledge for innovation, becomes more focused in the form of SDGs-based EU
