A systematic review on technology-based instructions to develop English pragmatic competence for non-native speakers

    Get PDF
With the rapid development of world Englishes (WEs) and multilingualism, pragmatic failure is still an unsolved matter for non-native speakers (NNSs). Although many studies have paid attention to technology application in second language acquisition (SLA), there are limited systematic reviews concerning technology-based instructions to develop English pragmatic competence for NNSs. This study gains a comprehensive overview to identify the situation and trend of technology-based instructions to develop English pragmatic competence for NNSs based on 20 articles from 2015 to 2023. Various findings indicate that based on technology instructions and technology resources, English pragmatic awareness and multidimensional development should be emphasized to foster English pragmatic competence among NNSs. Implications and suggestions are also provided for further research from this review

Education transformation in Indonesia requires the implementation of differentiated learning

    Get PDF
This study describes teachers’ perceptions of implementing education transformation after the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The research method uses a mixed-method approach: quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative data collection using questionnaires. Analysis of quantitative data using the Rasch model. Qualitative data analysis through the collection, reduction, and presentation. The respondents of this research are 389 teachers in Indonesia. The questionnaire instrument contains 21 items of statements. Before being sent to teachers via the Google form, the questionnaire had met the readability test by 10 teachers. This research found that the most effortless education transformation is related to the education ecosystem. However, implementations still challenging to implement are related to pedagogy, especially the implementation of differentiated learning. Therefore, this study implies that the educational ecosystem needs to be maintained. Meanwhile, pedagogics, especially those related to differentiated learning, must be improved with various training to recognize student learning styles, multiple intelligences, learning readiness, teacher socio-emotional, and student socio-cultural

Effectiveness of museum visits: attitude and learning of history

    Get PDF
This quasi-experimental study investigates the effectiveness of museum visit on 6th-grade students’ attitude towards and learning of history. The study engaged 120 students in the museum visit intervention. That includes, 60 students in the experimental group and 60 students in the control group. The study design included pre-test and post-test measures. The study administered an achievement test and an attitude scale toward history. The study analyzed the data using the repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistical test. The study’s result revealed that the experimental group outperformed the control group in achievement test scores of histories. The museum-visit group expressed a more positive attitude towards history learning and engagement. These findings underscore museums’ potential as experiential learning environment, offering knowledge and fostering a positive attitude towards history. The study recommends the future researchers to conduct similar empirical studies in science subjects as a venue for place-based pedagogy in the Indian context

Amalgamation evaluation model design based on modification weighted product-Provus-Alkin-Rwa Bhineda

    Get PDF
The new normal era allowed learning at IT vocational schools to be carried out directly (synchronously) through online meeting platforms and indirectly (asynchronously) through email, WhatsApp groups, and learning management system (LMS). However, the reality showed that not all synchronous and asynchronous learning implementations were effective. Based on these problems, it was necessary to evaluate and used an appropriate evaluation model. A breakthrough was used, namely the Amalgamation evaluation model based on the modification of the weighted product with the Provus and Alkin models in view of the Rwa Bhineda concept. The purpose of this research was to show the Amalgamation evaluation model design based on weighted product modification with the Provus and Alkin models in view of the Rwa Bhineda concept as the basis for determining the dominant indicators that need to be maintained for the synchronous-asynchronous learning effectiveness. This research used a development approach that focused on the design, initial trial, and initial trial revision. The analysis of this study results used a quantitative descriptive technique, namely the percentage descriptive calculation. This research results showed the evaluation model design was good categorized as evidenced by the average percentage of effectiveness was 88.67%. The emerging significance and value of this research results was the existence of innovation in the educational evaluation field, which makes it easier for evaluators to determine the dominant indicators that need to be maintained in supporting the effectiveness of synchronous-asynchronous learning implementation in IT vocational schools generally, and specifically in IT vocational schools in Bali

    Get PDF
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a significant transformation in the field of education, with a notable shift towards online learning worldwide including higher education institutions. However, one of the major concerns faced by educators is ensuring students’ active participation and engagement in the online learning environment. In maintaining the quality of education and achieve desired learning outcomes, it is crucial to understand the factors that influence students’ engagement. The main objective of this study is to investigate the impact of technology acceptance and pre-class activities on the engagement levels of higher education students in online learning platforms. To conduct the research, a cross-sectional approach was employed, and data was collected from 1,692 students at Sunway College and Sunway University through a Google survey form administered between January and March 2022. The findings of this study reveal a positive and significant correlation between students’ acceptance of technology and their level of engagement in the online learning process. Moreover, the study highlights the empirical significance of pre-class activities in fostering student engagement in online classes. These research findings provide valuable insights for educational institutions, practitioners, and policymakers, enabling them to enhance the effectiveness of online learning initiatives

    Get PDF
Self-organization theory is an interdisciplinary scientific direction to improve the quality of acquired knowledge and skills. The article aims to study the development of interdisciplinary research activities among students based on self-organization theory. The study was conducted using an integrated approach, methods of analysis and synthesis, modeling, pedagogical experiments, and mathematical statistics. An elective course, “synergetic-interdisciplinary scientific theory”, and a model for preparing students for interdisciplinary research activities were developed and implemented. The knowledge and skills of 272 physics students in the Republic of Kazakhstan universities in control and experimental groups improved after the training. The knowledge highest level is observed among the experimental group students while studying the natural experiments’ theoretical aspects necessary for researching the natural objects’ sustainability. Experimental group students demonstrated better results in completing the task based on the acquired knowledge and skills. They rated the education quality significantly better on a short educational assessment scale. The results-developed course and the students’ preparing models for interdisciplinary research can be used in advanced courses for different specialties educators. Research perspectives could potentially contribute to the development of integrated subjects and interdisciplinary programs in natural sciences and humanities
