The impact of technology, learning style, instructional approach, and attitude on learning outcomes
The study aims to investigate the relationship between the learners’ technology experiences, cooperative learning style, student-centered instructional approach, and positive student attitude toward learning outcomes. Quantitative correlation model, a semi-structured instrument, and a cluster random sample of subjects (N=319) were decided to be employed in the research-study. The study reported a relatively low positive relation between learners’ technology experiences and learning outcomes variables (r=.328), an intermediate positive connection between cooperative learning style and learning outcomes constructs (r=.485), a relatively low positive association in the middle of student-centered instructional approach and learning outcomes (r=.394), as well as between positive student attitude and learning outcomes (r=.329). The whole variance of learning outcome levels described by cooperative learning style is 34.7%, by student-centered instructional approach is 23.9%, by positive student attitude is 10.8%, and by learners’ technology experiences is 5.6%. The results of the study are important for departments as well as for lecturers and students
Frayer model-based assessment for detecting students’ conceptual understanding in evolution
This study aimed to test the validity, reliability, and difficulty level of items developed based on the Frayer model and detect conceptual understanding of high school students in biology evolution. The test method evaluated 35 multiple-choice questions on evolution for 55 high school students. Rasch analysis was performed to assess the validity, reliability, difficulty level of items, and students’ ability level. Two experts empirically tested and analyzed the validity of the items. The assessment developed was discovered to be valid based on expert and empirical analyses. Furthermore, the construct validity test indicated that only two of the 35 questions were deemed invalid. The assessment exhibited reliability with an item reliability score of 0.92. The item difficulty levels were equally spread across the normal curve, encompassing questions ranging from very difficult to very easy categories, as depicted in the variable map. After analyzing the map, it was observed that variations in students’ proficiency levels at answering questions were evident, indicating diverse levels of ability. Students performed well in handling formal and superordinate-subordinate level questions. However, their performance differed when dealing with identity and principle-level concepts
Character learning model based on traditional songs in Indonesia
Character education is mandatory material in Indonesia. One of the character learning strategies is to use folk songs. This study describes the strategies used by teachers in implementing character learning and explores information about obstacles and supports in its application. There were 12 study participants consisting of religion teachers from six schools in the Yogyakarta and Sumatra Regions. Selection of participants using purposive sampling. Data collection through in-depth interviews using an interview guide. The analysis technique is carried out through the process of reducing, presenting and interpreting data to draw conclusions. The results of this study are very important for education, where the teacher’s strategy, the use of traditional songs can become a new model of character education. Obstacles faced in the form of diverse student abilities can increase innovation, creativity and teacher competence in designing learning. The results of this study can become a basic reference in a new character education strategy. This research has several limitations both from the location, research subjects and the type of research. Subsequent research with a more complete design will add to the strengthening of the results of this study
A validity and reliability of instrument to evaluate the principal technology leadership: a pilot study
Rapid development of the digital environment nowadays requires a line of educational leadership, especially leaders in schools who are competent in technological leadership. Therefore, this study aims to verify the technology leadership instrument among school principals. Accordingly, a pilot study has been carried out to determine and confirm the level of instruments that have been built to identify the principal’s technology leadership practices. This pilot study was conducted on 196 samples consisting of secondary school teachers. This study examines the principal’s role as a technology leader involves five specific standards which includes the dimension of supporting digital citizenship, visionary planner, empowering leader, system designer and connected learner. This study has been conducted through three levels of validity namely face validity, content validity, and construct validity. Content validation index (CVI) is used to determine reliability between experts achieved. The construct validity is measured by exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The reliability of the instrument is measured by Cronbach alpha value. The finding of this pilot study shows that the instrument is valid and reliable. Finally, out of 50 items, 49 items are retained
Fortifying learners’ self-regulation in biology through career-oriented teaching
Incorporating career-oriented teaching (COT) in technical-vocational education addresses challenges in graduates’ job readiness by emphasizing practical skills aligned with career interests. This study investigates the impact of COT on students’ self-regulation in biology, which is crucial for academic and career success. Quantitative analysis reveals that COT significantly enhances self-regulation skills, including decision-making, goal orientation, impulse control, and self-direction, compared to conventional science teaching (CST). Qualitative responses underscore the positive influence of COT on decision-making and goal orientation, with students setting positive goals and exhibiting improved impulse control. Moreover, COT fosters self-direction, promoting autonomy and responsibility for learning. These findings emphasize the importance of innovative teaching approaches like COT in developing students’ self-regulation abilities and preparing them for the demands of the modern workforce. Integrating concrete, problem-based tasks in COT and teacher training can further enhance its effectiveness in developing specialized skills and self-regulation. This research contributes valuable insights into instructional practices’ role in shaping students’ self-regulation and highlights the need to explore further innovative teaching strategies to support students’ holistic development
Evaluation of the scholarship program by the education fund management institute in Indonesia
The primary objective of this investigation is to conduct a comparative analysis between the target formulation and outcomes of the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) scholarship program and the targeting outcomes of program model. The research paradigm employed is post-positivism, utilizing qualitative methods to explore program development and assess its effectiveness. Two key conclusions emerge from this study: i) the prescribed structure of the LPDP scholarship program is considered insufficient, marked by a focus on outcomes and activities and ii) the LPDP scholarship program's performance has fallen short of anticipated standards, primarily attributable to a significant disparity between scholarship recipients and program graduates. In light of these findings, five recommendations are proposed for future enhancements to the LPDP scholarship program: i) undertake a comprehensive study to develop a vision for addressing the human resource needs in Indonesia, taking into account regional variations, industries, professions, and scientific disciplines; ii) incorporate scholarship initiatives targeting the foundational stratum; iii) foster collaboration with ministries and institutions engaged in comparable program management and industry sectors; iv) adjust the standard of living and payment mechanisms accordingly; and v) implement stringent consequences within the LPDP framework for scholarship recipients who fail to graduate within the stipulated timeframe
Academic achievements of medical student related to interactive problem-based learning in blended learning context
The purpose of the current study is to prove the effectiveness of using interactive elements in problem-based learning (PBL) for medical students. The simultaneous use of interactivity and a problem-solving approach makes it possible to improve the pedagogy of distance learning and improve the training of medical specialties. In the study, 120 medical students of 4-5 university courses were enrolled, who were divided into 3 groups, a control group and two experimental ones, who received intervention one in the form of PBL, the second - PBL and also interactive elements in blended learning. Participants in the groups were randomly selected but with an equal representation of men and women aged 21 to 23 years. The results were measured using the university 12-point system and the presence of statistically significant differences was established using the student’s t-test. It was found that in experimental groups, the results of the post-test of academic achievement were statistically significantly higher than the pre-test. At the same time, the best changes were recorded in the group with PLB and interactive training at the same time. There were no statistically significant differences between genders within each group or between groups; however, females performed slightly better on average than males. Practically, the results of the study can be used to improve the academic training of physicians during distance learning and to improve practical problem-solving skills. The current study can be used in further analysis of PBL of medical students subject to the global integration of digital technologies in educational systems
Validity of instrument to measure mathematics teachers’ perceptions towards 4C skills in problem solving
In the contemporary education 4.0 landscape, teachers are urged to prioritize the communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity (4C) skills during teaching and learning, recognized as crucial skills for the 4.0 industrial revolution (I.R 4.0). This research aimed to develop and validate an instrument assessing mathematics teachers' perceptions of the 4C skills through problem-solving teaching method. Employing a quantitative research design, the study utilized a questionnaire for data collection, involving four experts and 120 participants. Descriptive analysis using Cronbach's alpha and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) revealed a high reliability (Cronbach's alpha=0.934) and factor eigenvalue exceeding 1. The KMO values (Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin) for each construct were 0.50, and Bartlett's Test was significant (<0.5). Additionally, each item demonstrated a factor loading value above 0.50 and a variance percentage of ≥60%. The instrument comprised 4 sub-constructs and 16 fitting items. In summary, the study affirms the utility of this instrument in investigating mathematics teachers' perceptions of 4C skills through problem-solving teaching methods
Using nominal group technique to investigate the factors of child sexual abuse in Malaysia
This study aims to study the factors contributing to sexual abuse of children in Malaysia. This study uses the nominal group technique (NGT) approach in determining the list of factors for victims and predators, involving six experts from six different institutions that are directly involved with the issue of child sexual abuse (CSA). The findings of the study show that there are four factors that reach the highest value (86.7%) for the victims, which are naivety and lack of knowledge, family problems, unsafe environment, and social media. As for predator factors, two factors were rejected because they reached a low value, namely the factor of “wanting to try” (60%), and mental health issues (66.67%). Finally, the highest predator factors found are family crisis and upbringing style, with each reaching a value of 83.33%. The findings of the study show that several factors in the occurrence of sexual abuse against children can be identified. This matter needs attention so that this problem can be controlled and prevented from spreading in the community. The NGT method shows an effective and acceptable methodology for solving the problems of this study
The impact of continuous professional development activities on student learning outcomes and employability
The fast development of engineering technologies forces a wide range of students to choose the technological path for their careers. Universities focus on theoretical study with limited practical exposure. To ensure students are prepared for the industry requirements, engineering universities set a core industrial experience for all students. This industrial experience aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry and to ensure students have gained the required industrial. The work in this paper highlights the importance of continuous professional development (CPD) hours for engineering students. The paper studies the impact of CPD hours on the critical skills of the student learning outcomes. A descriptive analytical methodology is applied to examine this impact. Thus, a survey of 34 questions was created and distributed to students at engineering schools in different universities across the MENA and Gulf Region. A sample of 234 answers is collected and analyzed using a statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS). The results show that students agree that CPD activities can enhance their learning outcomes, teamwork skills, public speaking, and technical competencies. The results show that student believes that CPD activity may enhance their chance of securing employment within a short timeline after graduation
