The validity of the mobile gamification in economic subject
Mobile gamification has shown growing adoption in education, demonstrating potential to enhance engagement and learning outcomes. This study addresses challenges in economics education, including moderate student achievement, reliance on teachers, and lack of student motivation. To tackle these issues, a mobile gamification tool was developed for secondary school economics. The study’s objective was to validate the content and educational relevance of this tool. Using a sequential exploratory mixed-method design, the research comprised two phases. First, focus group discussions (FGD) were conducted with seven economics and technology experts to assess the tool’s interface and educational content. In the second phase, a content validity index (CVI) assessment quantified expert agreement on five key content areas. Results indicated a high level of expert consensus, with CVI values ranging from 0.87 to 1.00. These findings demonstrate that the gamified mobile tool is a valid educational resource that aligns with curriculum standards and can enhance student engagement in economics. The study concludes that mobile gamification is an effective strategy to support Economics education, encouraging self-directed learning and classroom interaction
Effectiveness of an author’s program for psychopedagogical support in the development of metacognitive abilities
In the context of the updated educational system emphasizing autonomy and critical thinking among students, it is necessary to develop effective approaches to support and enhance students’ metacognitive abilities. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a proprietary psychological and pedagogical support program designed to develop metacognitive abilities in schoolchildren. Methods included conducting a quasi-experimental study with control and experimental groups, utilizing the metacognitive awareness assessment questionnaire (MAAQ) to assess outcomes. The study involved 184 students (grades 7-9; M=14.40; SD=0.81) from a school in Kazakhstan, where the experimental group underwent the intervention program. Statistical analysis revealed significant improvements in metacognitive abilities among students in the experimental group compared to the control group, including enhancements in self-awareness, self-regulation, critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving. These findings affirm the feasibility of integrating metacognitive approaches into educational programs and suggest further avenues for research in pedagogical support and student development
Factors influencing teacher performance in Shanghai high schools in COVID-19 pandemic
The performance of teachers in schools has become a questionable phenomenon during COVID-19 due to changing landscape of teaching. Since the performance of teachers is linked to performance of students, it is imperative to investigate the influencing factors for teachers’ performance. This study is conducted to examine the relationships between instructional leadership (IL), teaching autonomy (TA), school resources (SR), teacher self-efficacy (TSE), teacher performance (TP) and teaching workload (TW). A sample of 321 responses was collected using a Likert scale questionnaire. Partial least square–structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze the data using Smart PLS 3. The findings of the study confirmed that TA, IL, and SR are significant antecedents of TSE. The study reports that TSE is a significant predictor of TP. The study reports that TSE is a significant mediator and TW is a significant moderator. The study suggests that TP can be improved with TSE which is improved by IL, TA, and SR. The school education administration in China is required to develop policies in line with this research to contribute to knowledge. The study recommends that the policymakers and practitioners should focus on school’s resources, IL and TA which significantly will improve the performance of teachers in China
Accounting education from 1960 to 2023: a bibliometric review
Since 1960, publications in accounting education have demonstrated a high level of productivity and influence. However, few studies have attempted to use bibliometric methods to map and visualize accounting education research. This study aimed to identify global issues in accounting education through bibliometric analysis, covering the period from 1960 to 2023, by exploring publication trends, top topics, and major contributors in the field. Tools such as Microsoft Excel, VOSviewer, the bibliometric R-package, and WordSift were utilized to comprehensively analyze 717 Scopus-indexed documents. The findings underscore a continuous and recently accelerated historical evolution of accounting education publications, with primary research areas clustering around “business, management, and accounting.” Noteworthy trends include a geographic concentration in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, with RMIT University emerging as a key contributor. Hassell, from the United States, is recognized as the most influential author, and “accounting education” from Taylor & Francis stands out as the most productive journal. Works by Bui and Porter in 2020 emerge as the most frequently cited documents. The research results indicate that future research directions should focus on students, higher education, and the profession, emphasizing themes such as curriculum, learning, and skills
Readiness of Indonesian physics teachers to implement augmented reality-based learning
In the 21st century, technological development has entered all aspects of life, including education. With its global potential, technology digitizes education, requiring teachers to use technology through media such as augmented reality (AR). This study aims to determine the readiness of physics teachers in Indonesia to implement AR-based learning. More specifically, this research explores the extent to which physics teachers are prepared based on aspects of alignment, capability, and engagement (ACE) in implementing AR-based learning. This exploratory research is conducted by distributing questionnaires with ACE aspects. This study involved several junior and senior high school physics teachers. Data analysis techniques use KH coder and quantitative descriptive. The results show that teachers already know the definition, features, and benefits of AR in learning (alignment aspect). Still, only a minority of teachers have implemented AR-based learning (capability aspect). In the engagement aspect, it is known that teachers want to learn more about how to create AR and implement AR effectively. The implications of this research are recommendations to stakeholders to encourage and facilitate teachers, especially physics teachers
Principal instructional leadership practice and its relationship with teacher job performance
Excellent principal leadership actions will be guidance for teachers’ high-quality teaching performance. However, the role of instructional principal is not fully utilized, and principals lack the highly effective leadership qualities necessary to promote teachers in improving teacher job performance. This study was conducted in Shenzhen, China to investigate the effect of principal instructional leadership practices on teachers’ job performance. This study employed a quantitative approach. The sample of the study was all private secondary school teachers in Shenzhen China, consisting of 297 teachers selected from 1,300 populations. To figure out the research questions, SPSS software was used with the help of descriptive and inferential analysis. The findings of this study show that both principal instructional leadership practice and teachers’ job performance are at a high level. Moreover, there was a very strong positive relationship between two variables (r=0.974). In conclusion, the findings underscore the significance of principals’ instructional leadership attributes on teacher job performance and provide implications for the government and the school principals regarding the implementation of principal training system or the improvement of educational management policy in private schools throughout Shenzhen, China
Adult education in Greek municipalities during COVID-19 pandemic
State and local governments’ primary purpose is to provide services to their populations by shaping their social and economic life. Adult education is a good example of a public service that extends deeply into people’s everyday lives. It helps adults increase their social roles as employees, parents, and retiree, gain more fulfilment in their personal lives, and solve personal and community problems. The main research purpose of this paper is to investigate and describe adult education in Greek Municipalities during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically in the Municipality of Piraeus. For this purpose, the research was conducted using the focus group research method. Two groups participated, the first consisting of four employees of the Center for Lifelong Learning of the Municipality of Piraeus and the second group of four adult learners representing the four courses held. The results of the survey show that the unprecedented situation of COVID-19, particularly affected adult education which had stopped for a while and then many courses were discontinued. The imperative to strengthen digital skills, the uncertainty of continuing education and the change of education as a result of the changing world were also identified
International atmosphere impact on faculty engagement in internationalization: international attitudes mediation
Globalization continues to reshape higher education, driving increased international exchanges and collaboration. This study investigates the impact of the international atmosphere on faculty engagement in internationalization (FEI), with a focus on local applied universities in China. Despite the recognized importance of faculty in facilitating internationalization efforts, limited research exists on their involvement. Utilizing surveys and structural equation modeling, data was collected from faculty members in local applied universities in China. The survey instrument covered demographics, perceptions of the international environment, engagement in international activities, and attitudes towards internationalization results indicate significant positive correlations between the international atmosphere, faculty international attitudes (FIA), and engagement in international activities. Specifically, the international atmosphere positively influences FIA and subsequent engagement in internationalization. Furthermore, FIA were found to partially mediate the relationship between the international atmosphere and engagement. This study contributes to the understanding of faculty involvement in internationalization efforts, addressing a gap in the literature. By identifying the factors influencing faculty engagement, institutions can develop targeted strategies to promote global engagement in higher education, ultimately enhancing the internationalization process
Development of a remote physics laboratory to support equitable access to education
Economic disparities and variations in geographical conditions in Indonesia exacerbate access to physics laboratories. Therefore, innovative solutions such as remote physics laboratories are needed to bridge this gap and provide more equitable access to students across the region, regardless of economic or geographical conditions. To overcome this, this research aims to develop a remote physics laboratory for equitable access to quality physics experiments. This research includes 4D model development research. The research subjects involved five students for the functionality test, 84 people for the user test, and ten media experts to assess the feasibility of the product. The instruments used include functionality test instruments, media expert assessments, and usefulness, satisfaction, and ease of use (USE) questionnaires. Tool functionality data and media expert validation were analyzed using the Aiken V technique. At the same time, the level of user acceptance was examined through a combination of Wright maps and logit item values. This development resulted in a remote physics experiment architecture and device with a good functionality assessment index. The assessment by media experts showed high validity. The level of user acceptance is classified in the medium to high category. Thus, the developed R-PhyLab has the potential to be an effective medium in equalizing access to quality physics laboratories in educational institutions that face economic limitations and unfavorable geographical conditions
Examining the research and academic writing needs of preservice elementary teachers: a mixed-methods study
In teacher education, research plays a central role in the preparation and professional development of preservice teachers. Preservice teachers’ knowledge of research and their academic writing skills serve as a pathway for successfully completing a research project. This sequential-explanatory mixed methods study was conducted to provide an in-depth understanding of the preservice elementary teachers’ needs on research and academic writing. A total of 80 preservice elementary teachers participated in the study. Data were collected online using a structured questionnaire and an interview guide. Drawing from both the quantitative and qualitative analyses, a multitude of the participants’ research and academic writing needs were uncovered. On the research component, the participants’ needs encompassed a wide range of areas, including knowledge of research methodology, access to quality data, expert support, among others. As for the academic writing, the participants’ needs varied from language use, structure and mechanics to the writing process. Based on the findings, the study outlines practical implications useful for teaching research writing within the context of teacher education
