    The readiness of mathematics teachers as agents of change: a recent comprehensive review

    This study scrutinizes the role of mathematics teachers as pivotal agents of change in the evolving educational landscape, focusing on their readiness to embrace pedagogical reforms. The review aims to reveal the current patterns and trends in mathematics teachers’ readiness literature discussed in recent studies. Utilizing the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) framework, this study analyzed 31 empirical articles from the Scopus and Web of Science databases in 2023. The review process for chosen articles is examined, encompassing aspects such as publication criteria, eligibility and exclusion standards, databases, and the progression of review stages. The most striking result from the analysis is that mathematics teachers’ readiness is closely related to teaching strategies and pedagogy. Moreover, inconsistencies in practice and constraints such as inadequate resources, insufficient institutional support, and teacher training program gaps hinder their ability to implement change effectively. The implications of this study extend to various stakeholders in the education ecosystem, including policymakers, educational institutions, teacher training programs, and practitioners. This review suggests strategies to enhance teachers’ professional development and serve as preliminary work toward developing a pedagogy model. In conclusion, this systematic review consolidates the existing knowledge on the readiness of mathematics teachers as agents of change

    Advancing practice-oriented education in the training of future pedagogic psychologists

    This research aims to explore the characteristics of practice-oriented training within universities and identify the psychological and pedagogical factors that influence the development of professional competencies in future specialists. A comprehensive combination of content analysis of training conditions for future professionals in higher education and an analytical review of the formation of professional competencies among teacher-psychologists in the context of educational system modernization were applied. The conclusions highlight the challenges of implementing practice-oriented training in Kazakhstan’s higher education system, detailing its forms and methods in preparing competitive and competent specialists. Additionally, the study addresses strategies for effectively organizing pedagogical conditions that foster the development of core competencies in future professionals within social and psychological fields. The findings are critical for educators educating future teacher-psychologists, as they emphasize practice-oriented methods during educational modernization

    How digital platforms improve teaching: comparing teacher performance across Peru

    This study addresses the challenge of enhancing pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) performance among primary education teachers in Peru, particularly in the context of increasing reliance on digital platforms. With significant regional and demographic disparities in access to digital resources, this research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of digital platforms in supporting teaching practices. Using a quantitative, cross-sectional design, the study analyzed data from the 2022 national unique test (PUN), which assesses cognitive and pedagogical skills among teachers, and a digital platform integration questionnaire (DPIQ) administered to 2,000 teachers. The findings revealed a positive correlation between digital platform usage and PCK performance, with younger and female teachers demonstrating higher scores. Urban teachers also outperformed their rural counterparts, highlighting regional disparities in digital access. The study concludes that integrating digital platforms into teaching practices can enhance PCK performance, but there is a need for targeted professional development and investment in digital infrastructure, particularly in underserved areas. Addressing these disparities is crucial to ensuring that all teachers can benefit from digital advancements, ultimately improving educational outcomes

    A systematic literature review of computational thinking study in physics learning

    This systematic review aims to summarize the technological resources for teaching and learning about computational thinking (CT) in physics and provide suggestions to conduct new studies in future research. A total of 22 academic articles on CT in physical learning were reviewed from 2012 to 2022. The number of research participants was 3,269, with details of 2,752 college students, 439 high school students, 32 junior high school students, 20 elementary students, 21 teachers, and five librarians. This study confirmed that research on CT in physical learning has been dominated by two countries, the United States and Indonesia. Over the past 10 years, there has been an increase in physics courses focusing on topics in kinematics, force and motion, and electricity. The common method practices are quantitative and qualitative, with some developing learning. The implications of this research can inform education experts, educators, and technologists interested in the CT environment and technological development in physics learning. Computational skills in physics have the potential to improve cognitive, affective, and psychomotor outcomes, including students’ thinking abilities. Students can benefit from their experience learning physics using the concept of CT because they can solve technology-based problems and develop various competencies needed in learning physics

    Evaluating electronic training programs in Jordanian universities in light of the Corona pandemic: a comparative study between public and private universities

    This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of e-training programs in Jordanian universities during the COVID-19 pandemic, comparing public and private institutions. A descriptive-analytical approach was employed, utilizing both interviews and a questionnaire. The researcher developed a 20-item questionnaire and conducted interviews with faculty members to identify obstacles to e-training and suggest potential improvements. The study sample comprised 1,070 faculty members, with 765 from public universities and 305 from private universities. Additionally, intentional interviews were conducted with 50 faculty members. The results indicated that the overall effectiveness of e-training programs was rated as moderate, with no significant differences observed between public and private universities. The primary obstacle identified was insufficient funding for e-training, particularly during the pandemic. This study aims to assist university administrations in considering e-learning systems as effective alternative training methods. Furthermore, it seeks to explore new dimensions and skill sets for faculty members. Based on these findings, the research proposes strategies to enhance e-training, including improved budgeting and evaluation methods

    The effectiveness of edutainment in teaching cell cycle and transport mechanisms

    Traditional lecture-based teaching methods prevalent in Philippine schools often lead to passive learning. By contrast, this study investigates the active engagement and enhanced conceptual comprehension facilitated by edutainment through Classcraft v.4.2.6, focusing on the least learned competencies of cell cycle and transport mechanisms. Expert evaluation of edutainment content affirmed its potential as a valuable educational tool. Students exposed to the edutainment method showed significantly improved learning outcomes compared to those taught via traditional lecture method, as validated by statistical analyses. However, challenges such as technological barriers and distractions were acknowledged. To optimize edutainment’s benefits, strategic design considerations and support mechanisms are recommended, including purposeful design, progressive complexity, and educator training. This study significantly updates knowledge in educational practices by highlighting edutainment’s efficacy. By challenging lecture-based teaching, it advocates for more engaging instructional approaches in Philippine secondary education, promising enhanced learning experiences and outcomes

    Experiential learning using Google Classroom on students’ academic performance and motivation in language subject

    This study investigates the effectiveness of experiential learning using Google Classroom on year 2 students’ academic performance and motivation in Malay language. This study also highlighted the elements in Google Classroom’s experiential learning that motivate students to achieve academic performance. The study conducted with 32 students at Chinese primary school in Johor Bahru; utilized online pre-tests, post-tests, and 5-point Likert scale online questionnaire to identify students’ motivation level. Results revealed significant improvements in students’ Malay language post-test scores, indicating the effectiveness of experiential learning using Google Classroom. Descriptive statistics showed a high level of student motivation, significantly motivated by the experiential learning treatment using Google Classroom, with the materials provided by the teacher being the most preferred by students and effective element in motivating them to achieve academic success. The study suggests that implementing experiential learning with Google Classroom positively influences academic performance in Malay language. Teachers, schools, and communities are suggested to review current learning methods and platforms; and strive to incorporate experiential learning through Google Classroom to enhance students’ academic performance in Malay language. Future studies are encouraged to provide more reliable data, particularly within the context of Chinese primary schools in Malaysia, to further enrich educational practices

    Exploring ICT competency and communication preferences in higher education: insights from Croatia

    The digital transformation of education underscores the need for effective integration of information and communication technologies (ICT) in higher education. This study examines differences in ICT usage between teaching staff and students across various types of higher education institutions in Croatia, focusing on the impact of institution type and academic programs on ICT usage levels, digital competencies, and communication preferences. A quantitative research approach was employed, with data collected via a survey distributed to 70 teaching staff and 472 students using random sampling from public universities, public polytechnics, and private higher education institutions. The results reveal significant disparities in digital competencies, with students in private institutions demonstrating higher ICT usage compared to public institutions. Additionally, both groups favor synchronous communication (SC), although students display a stronger preference. These findings highlight a digital divide within academia and the need for targeted ICT training, particularly in public institutions. The study proposes measures to enhance ICT infrastructure and develop digital competencies through systematic workshops and training sessions. This research emphasizes the importance of addressing digital inequalities and improving the quality of education by integrating advanced technological solutions in higher education

    GE-APROAch: an OBEdized survey instrument on GenEd outcomes achievement based on student personal reports

    The Philippine commission on higher education (CHED) requires colleges and universities to align with its triad goals of individual, social, and global development, through the new general education curriculum (NGEC). Since its implementation, numerous studies have evaluated outcomes, often reporting positive results. However, these studies exhibit methodological inconsistencies due to varying assessment measures. While two studies from the same college employed robust self-developed instruments based on CHED standards to evaluate general education (GE) outcomes, questions about their reliability led to the creation of the GE-assessment of personal reports of outcomes achievement (GE-APROAch) instrument. Using a mixed-method descriptive-evaluation design, the research constructed and validated the instrument. Results indicated that the GE-APROAch effectively measures GE outcomes through: i) a solid conceptual framework of targeted competencies; ii) high interrater agreement from expert judges; iii) strong internal reliability to differentiate and consistently report scores; and iv) superior efficacy compared to existing tools. Establishing the validity of self-made instruments is crucial, particularly for evaluating curriculum learning outcomes. Statistical analysis confirms that the GE-APROAch is a reliable and valid tool, offering improvements over previously used instruments

    Increasing learning innovation through developing teachers’ basic abilities in professional development supervision

    Learning innovation is always related to teacher abilities, emphasizing the design and implementation of innovative teaching and learning. This study aimed to assess the effects of professional development-supervised teacher basic abilities on learning innovation. A total of 409 teachers were engaged as participants. In this case, supervision experience was obtained with a teacher basic ability development approach (commitment and abstraction), as data were analyzed using the partial least square structural equation model (PLS-SEM). The results showed that teacher basic abilities significantly affected the success of professional development supervision and learning innovation. This indicated that the influential levels of the basic abilities on learning innovation and professional development supervision emphasized the t-statistics/p-values of 37.535≥1.96/0.000 and 39.492≥1.96/0.000, respectively. The effects of professional development supervision on learning innovation were also characterized by the t-statistics and p-value of 39.492≥1.96 and 0.000, respectively. Meanwhile, the teacher basic abilities significantly impacted the combined activities of professional development supervision and learning innovation through the t-statistic and p-value of 8.283≥1.96 and 0.000, respectively. These results recommended that principals and supervisors should consider teachers basic abilities as a target in the supervision of professional development, to realize sustainable learning innovations
