The Role of Physical Activity in Asthma Outcomes: A Review of Recent Studies: Physical Activity and Asthma Outcomes - A Review
Purpose of Research
Bronchial asthma is a chronic disease with a growing global prevalence, significantly affecting public health and quality of life. This review aims to synthesize evidence on the effects of physical activity, a non-pharmacological intervention, on asthma control, pulmonary function, inflammation, and overall well-being.
Research Materials and Methods
To conduct this review, a systematic literature search was performed in the PubMed database, covering studies published within the past six years. The search was conducted using the following keywords: Asthma outcomes, Physical activity and asthma, Exercises and asthma, Asthma pathophysiology, Non-pharmacological interventions in asthma. Original clinical studies, meta-analyses, and systematic reviews assessing the impact of physical activity on asthma progression were included. The analysis encompassed studies investigating both physiological and psychosocial effects of regular physical activity in asthma patients. The final selection of publications was based on their methodological quality and relevance to the scope of this study.
Basic Results
Regular physical activity improves cardiorespiratory fitness, reduces airway inflammation, and enhances quality of life in asthma patients. Aerobic and interval training, along with breathing exercises, may reduce the need for inhaled corticosteroids, minimizing medication side effects. Despite concerns about exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, tailored exercise programs are safe and well-tolerated.
Conclusions
Physical activity should be integral to asthma management due to its positive effects on asthma control and quality of life. Future research should focus on optimizing exercise modalities and their long-term impact on disease progression
Case report of a Patient with SVC syndrome in the course of pulmonary hilar and mediastinal neoplasia
Superior vena cava syndrome (SVCS) is a serious clinical condition caused by obstruction of the superior vena cava, usually due to malignancies. We present a case of a 67-year-old woman with SVCS secondary to a tumour in the right pulmonary hilum and mediastinum. The patient exhibited facial and neck swelling, venous distention, and dyspnoea. Computed tomography confirmed a large polycystic mass causing complete occlusion of the superior vena cava and extensive venous thrombosis. The patient was treated with anticoagulation therapy and referred for oncological assessment. This case underscores the importance of prompt diagnosis and imaging in guiding SVCS management
A Review of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Treatment: The Role of Surgery in Therapy and Alternative Treatment Modalities
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common sleep disorder involving repeated upper airway obstructions during sleep, leading to hypoxia, fragmented sleep, and excessive daytime sleepiness. It is linked to significant cardiovascular and metabolic risks and affects 17-30% of individuals aged 30-69, with higher rates in the elderly. Diagnosis is typically made using polysomnography, which assesses the frequency and severity of apneic events.
Treatment mainly involves continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), although adherence can be challenging. Alternative therapies like oral appliances, positional therapy, and lifestyle modifications are helpful for milder cases. Medications such as GLP-1 receptor agonists, acetazolamide and 5-HT regulating have shown promise in reducing symptoms and improving CPAP compliance.
Surgical options, such as uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP), maxillomandibular advancement (MMA), transoral robotic surgery (TORS) and tracheostomy, are considered when other treatments fail, particularly in patients with anatomical issues. Bariatric surgery can also reduce OSA severity in severely obese patients. Emerging therapies like hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HGNS), orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT), and cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) offer solutions for patients who cannot tolerate CPAP. Advancements in AI and telemedicine are improving diagnosis and treatment personalization.
OSA treatment requires a tailored approach, considering individual factors and comorbidities. Continued research is essential to optimize long-term care
The Impact of Vitamin D and Omega-3 Fatty Acid Supplementation on Muscle Health, Physical Performance, and Sarcopenia Prevention – A Review of Studies
This review aims to assess the impact of vitamin D and omega-3 supplementation on muscle health, physical performance, and sarcopenia prevention. The analysis includes randomized controlled trials (RCTs), systematic reviews, meta-analyses, observational studies, and narrative reviews. Vitamin D regulates calcium metabolism, myocyte proliferation, and muscle regeneration, with deficiency linked to weakened strength and increased fall risk. However, the effects on physical performance are inconclusive, depending on 25(OH)D levels, dosage, and supplementation duration. Omega-3 fatty acids demonstrate anti-inflammatory effects, supporting muscle regeneration and function, particularly with resistance training. Some studies show beneficial effects on isometric strength, but their impact on muscle mass is inconsistent. Sarcopenia prevention studies suggest that supplementation, combined with physical activity, may be effective, though evidence on muscle mass remains unclear. In conclusion, vitamin D and omega-3 supplementation may support muscle function, particularly in deficient individuals, but further research is needed to assess their impact on physical performance and sarcopenia prevention. Long-term studies on optimal dosages, intervention duration, and synergistic effects with physical activity are required. 
Youth Obesity: Sport as a Solution Strategy
Purpose: This study examines organized sports as a multisectoral intervention against youth obesity, emphasizing physiological, psychosocial, and structural motivations.
Materials and Research Methods: Long term cohort analyses (e.g., Finland’s 21-year tracking [7]), randomized trials, and regional case studies (Poland’s rural-urban disparities [10], Italy’s post-pandemic park programs [15]) were included. Data spanned adiposity metrics, accelerometry, mental health outcomes, and policy evaluations.
Basic Results: Sustained sports participation reduced adulthood obesity risk by 26%, mediated by metabolic improvements and visceral fat loss [6,7]. Team sports enhanced adherence (30% higher retention) through social engagement, correlating with a 40% decline in depressive symptoms [3,9]. Rural-urban gaps (20% participation disparity) and gender-based attrition (35% female dropout by age 15) highlighted systemic inequities [9,10]. Culturally tailored initiatives, such as Poland’s folk dance revival and Verona’s community sports, boosted engagement by 32–60% [9,15].
Conclusions: Effective strategies require subsidized infrastructure in poorer regions, clinical integration of sports prescriptions, and gender-inclusive attitude. Policies must connect global evidence with local traditions, repurposing spaces like abandoned factories into activity hubs [25] and setting “exercise vital signs” into pediatric care [24]. Success depends on contextual adaptability- transforming sports from occasional leisure into a part of healthy life foundation
Auricular Hematoma in Athletes: Treatment and Risks of Neglect
Introduction: Auricular hematoma is most often caused by direct blunt trauma to the outer ear and is frequently seen in individuals who engage in full-contact sports such as boxing, wrestling, and rugby. This condition occurs when blood accumulates between the cartilage and skin, resulting in pressure that compresses the perichondrium, leading to ischemia. If untreated, it can cause infections, perichondritis, necrosis, and permanent deformity, commonly referred to as "cauliflower ear". Standard treatment includes hematoma evacuation and the application of pressure dressings or sutures. However, alternative methods and modifications of standard approaches are currently under investigation.
Aim of the Study: The aim of this study is to evaluate the current understanding of auricular hematoma and cauliflower ear in athletes, with an emphasis on new treatment approaches, prevention and the potential complications associated with untreated cases.
Materials and Methods: A review of research literature was conducted through databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and the Cochrane Library.
Conclusion: Auricular hematoma is a prevalent injury in contact sports, requiring prompt and effective treatment to prevent complications. New evidence indicates that untreated auricular hematoma may lead to complications such as hearing loss and infections. Recent advancements in drainage techniques, surgical approaches, and non-invasive approaches offer promising management options. However, current research is limited by small sample sizes, underscoring the need for larger clinical trials and long-term studies. 
A breath Full of Life – The Importance of Movement and Physiotherapy in the Treatment of Children with Cystic Fibrosis
Cystic fibrosis is a congenital genetic disease that cannot be acquired or passed on through contact with another person. It occurs in both boys and girls because its cause is a genetic mutation present from birth. The disease develops when a child inherits two defective genes - one from the mother and the other from the father. Parents, although not suffering from the disease themselves, are carriers of the mutation and can pass it on to their offspring. Chronic inflammation gradually destroys the lung parenchyma, causing changes such as bronchodilation, fibrosis and sometimes emphysema or atelectasis. As the disease progresses, respiratory failure occurs, leading to hypoxia and a significant reduction in physical endurance in patients with cystic fibrosis. Regular physical activity and properly selected physiotherapy are a key component of cystic fibrosis therapy. They support the functioning of the respiratory system, improving patients' quality of life. Systematic exercise and specialized drainage techniques facilitate the removal of secretions from the lungs, strengthen respiratory muscles and increase overall fitness

In a world of evolving athletic competition and scientific advancement, the pursuit of optimal supplement applications to achieve peak performance should come as no surprise. One of the most popular and extensively researched supplements is creatine, for which numerous studies over many years have supported its positive impact on athletic and strength performance, as well as muscle and strength gains. Over time, attention has also shifted toward exploring creatine’s potential applications in other areas of medicine, as well as its use across various populations and age groups. Currently, the significance and importance of creatine are being highlighted not only in the context of its use across various sports disciplines, but also for its demonstrated beneficial effects in a range of medical conditions. These include improved prognosis in osteoporosis, osteopenia, and age-related sarcopenia, as well as its neuroprotective effects- for example, in brain injuries, ischemic diseases, diabetes, and other related conditions. Creatine, a compound naturally present in the human body- both endogenously synthesized and obtained through dietary intake- can also be consumed as a supplement, exhibiting excellent bioavailability that results in tissue saturation, primarily within muscle tissue. Due to its well-documented positive effects, and being recognized as a safe supplement with virtually no significant adverse or health-compromising effects, creatine continues to grow in popularity. Given its approval for use by organizations such as the International Olympic Committee and the endorsement of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, it is well on its way to becoming a leading supplement on the market. It is increasingly used by professional and amateur athletes, but also by a wide range of other populations across various age groups. Additionally, the concept of lifelong creatine supplementation is being increasingly discussed as a potentially beneficial strategy
Optune in Glioblastoma: Revolutionizing Treatment with Tumor Treating Fields
Introduction: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is one of the most aggressive primary brain tumors in adults, known for its rapid progression and poor prognosis. Despite advancements in surgical resection, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, the median survival for GBM patients remains limited. In recent years, Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields), commercially known as Optune, have emerged as an innovative, non-invasive therapeutic approach. TTFields utilize alternating electric fields to interfere with the mitotic processes of cancer cells, thereby inhibiting tumor growth. This paper aims to provide an in-depth review of the current understanding of TTFields therapy, assess its clinical efficacy, and explore future directions in GBM management.
Materials and methods: A systematic literature review was conducted, focusing on peer-reviewed articles published between 2017 and 2025. The search was performed using databases such as PubMed, JAMA, Lancet Oncology, Neuro-Oncology etc. Keywords included “glioblastoma,” “Tumor Treating Fields,” “Optune,” “clinical trials,” and “survival outcomes”.
Summary: The integration of TTFields therapy into the standard GBM treatment regimen represents a significant advancement in neuro-oncology. Clinical evidence indicates that TTFields, particularly in combination with temozolomide, can extend survival and delay disease progression in GBM patients.
Conclusions: TTFields therapy has emerged as a promising adjunctive treatment for glioblastoma, offering new hope for patients facing this highly aggressive disease. While current data support its efficacy and safety, further large-scale studies are needed to refine treatment protocols, identify predictive biomarkers, and assess long-term benefits. As research advances, TTFields may become an integral part of multimodal glioblastoma therapy, potentially improving both survival rates and quality of life for patients
The Role of Physical Activity and Exercise in Cystic Fibrosis – A Literature Review
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is one of the most widespread genetic disorders worldwide. The disease is caused by a mutation in the CFTR gene, which impairs the transport of chloride and bicarbonate ions across the cell membrane, leading to dysfunction of multiple organ systems - primarily the respiratory and digestive systems. Over the years, the availability of new pharmacological therapies has significantly improved both the quality and length of life in CF patients. Nevertheless, non-pharmacological treatment remains an integral component of the overall therapeutic approach. Physical activity is recommended not only for the general population but is also increasingly recognized for its beneficial effects in patients with various chronic diseases. The multifaceted impact of exercise on the human body is a frequent subject of scientific investigation. With the increasing life expectancy of individuals with CF, there is a growing risk of developing comorbidities, including lifestyle-related diseases, which may lead to overlapping symptoms. In modern clinical practice, cystic fibrosis is not always the direct cause of death in these patients. Therefore, it is crucial to adopt a holistic approach to the health of CF patients. Numerous studies have investigated the role of physical activity and exercise in cystic fibrosis, highlighting both the benefits and limitations imposed by the disease. Positive outcomes have been reported, including improved physical performance parameters, which contribute to enhanced quality of life and overall functioning. Additionally, exercise has been associated with improved mental health. A key conclusion emerging from these studies is the importance of personalized treatment plans that consider disease severity, physical and economic conditions, and the need to support patient motivation and adherence to exercise regimens
