Growing Online Interest in ERNIE Bot Released Since 2022: An Analysis of Baidu Index Data
Objective: Current evidence shows that since the launch of ERNIE (Enhanced Representation through kNowledge IntEgration) Bot, the public interest in it has been growing, which may have an impact in different fields. The purpose of this study is to quantitatively analyze the Baidu index of ERNIE Bot to reveal the public's attention to this technology and the trend of online search behavior in the past two years.
Methods: We used Baidu Index, a publicly available database to access query data in systematic and quantitative fashion, to search for key terms related to ERNIE Bot. We retrieved the search volume of two AI language models, ERNIE Bot and ChatGPT, extracted data over the time range from December 26, 2022(it is the inception of the comprehensive public release of large AI language models) to December 26, 2024. Results were given in search index.
Results: We observed that, since August 14, 2023, there has been a surge in public interest towards ERNIE Bot, preceded by fluctuations in this trend. Notably, this interest primarily dipped to its lowest ebb during traditional Chinese holidays, as well as winter and summer vacations. Compared with the same type of AI language model ChatGPT, the search interest of ERNIE Bot is significantly higher after August 14,2023.
Conclusion: The opening of ERNIE Bot to the public has sparked a notable increase in its visibility among the general populace. Its complimentary access, localized functionalities, and alignment with the educational requirements of the public have collectively sustained its search interest at an elevated level for an extended period. The escalating interest in ERNIE Bot among the public suggests a concurrent rise in market attention and user base, which is poised to foster its application across diverse domains such as education and enterprises. Consequently, this will generate a more diversified array of user needs and feedback
Assessing the Demand for Skill-based Education in Pakistan: Insights from Google Trends Data
This paper looks at the demand for skills training in Pakistan and uses Google Trends to estimate public interest in vocational training. Over 60% of Pakistan's population is believed to be under the age of 30, and faced with substantial youth unemployment, there are legitimate calls for well-planned skills-building programs. Notwithstanding the demand, Pakistan’s TVET system is still in its infancy, as indicated by low participation rates. With digital platforms, and particularly search engine data, there’s a new way to “see” demand. The discoveries illustrate an increase in public interest in upskilling, particularly in the IT and healthcare sectors, following 2020, a period parallel to the global surge in digital learning and remote work. But there are regional differences in search, with urban areas and those with deeper internet penetration much more engaged than rural areas. This study finds an escalation in cyber-search interest alongside a decrease in official enrollment, suggesting a need for targeted support to gain access to and enhance vocational education, especially in poor areas. Policymakers and educators can use the findings to develop more efficient skill-based education packages that meet Pakistan's evolving labor-market needs
Personification of the attributive effects of balneotherapy at Truskavets’ spa
Background. It is generally accepted that the attributive effects of balneotherapy at the resort of Truskavets’ are diuretic, cholecystokinetic, urolitholytic, and bactericidal. However, these effects do not occur in all patients, that is, they manifest themselves only as a tendency. Standing on the positions of personification and predictability, we set ourselves the goal: first, to identify a number of options for the attributive effects of balneotherapy at the resort of Truskavets’, and secondly, to clarify the possibility of predicting one or another option. This article concerns the first stage of achieving the goal.
Materials and methods. Under an observations were 34 men and 10 women by age 24-76 years with chronic pyelonephritis and cholecystitis in the phase of remission. Testing was performed twice - on admission and after 7-10 days of standard balneotherapy (drinking of Naftussya bioactive water, applications of ozokerite, mineral pools). Daily diuresis and urine concentration of some components were determined with calculation of its lithogenicity, as well as indicators of cholecystokinetic activity and immunity with calculation of the bactericidal ability of blood neutrophils.
Results. In 10 patients (22.7%), a pronounced diuretic effect (D2+) was accompanied by a moderate cholecystokinetic effect (C+) and a moderate increase in bactericidal activity against E. coli (E+), but not Staph. aureus (A0) with a complete absence of changes in urine lithogenicity (L0). In 9 patients (20.5%), a moderate diuretic effect (D+) was accompanied by a pronounced cholecystokinetic effect (C2+) in combination with an increase in bactericidal activity against both E. coli (E+) and, to an even greater extent, Staph. aureus (A2+), while urine lithogenicity moderately increased (L+). A characteristic feature of the third cluster (8 patients, 18.2%) is a drastic cholecystokinetic effect (C3+) in combination with a moderate diuretic effect (D+) and a slight increase in urine lithogenicity (L+) and the absence of significant changes in bactericidal activity against both types of microbes (E0&A0). The fourth cluster has only 3 patients in whom balneotherapy drastically suppressed cholekinetics (C3-), but significantly increased bactericidal activity against both types of microbes (E2+&A2+) with uncertain changes in diuresis and a slight increase in urine lithogenicity (L+). The last cluster was the most numerous (14 patients, 31.8%), characterized by slight anticholecystokinetic and antilithogenic effects and a moderate increase in bactericidal activity against Staph. aureus (A+) in the absence of changes in diuresis and bactericidal activity against E. coli.
Conclusion. Overall, the attributive effects of balneotherapy can be interpreted as physiologically favorable or at least neutral
Predicting Mental Health Among Adolescents with Risk Behaviors Based on Machine Learning
Objectives
While mental health is known to predict risk behaviors, less is understood about how specific risk behaviors contribute to mental health outcomes, particularly across genders. This study used machine learning to examine the predictive relationships between various risk behaviors and adolescent mental health, and to explore gender differences in these patterns.
Methods
We analyzed data from the nationally representative Chinese “Database of Youth Health,” including 8,670 high school students surveyed in 2020. A gradient-boosted decision tree model (XGBoost) was used to predict mental health, measured by the Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90), based on 22 risk behaviors. SHAP (Shapley Additive ExPlanations) values were calculated to interpret individual feature contributions.
Results
The model showed good performance (RMSE = 0.49, MAE = 0.35). Frequent dizziness during sports, lack of seat belt use, and alcohol consumption were identified as significant risk factors. Gender differences emerged: earlier age of first smoking was more strongly associated with poorer mental health among girls, while exercise frequency was a stronger protective factor for boys.
Conclusion
These findings underscore the need for gender-sensitive mental health interventions that address both physical and behavioral risk factors, and demonstrate the utility of machine learning in identifying nuanced predictors of adolescent mental health
‘God has decided’: Destiny, luck and uncertainty in migrant return and decisions about undocumented migration to Europe from the Gambia
Tracing the story of a Gambian migrant’s clandestine journey to Europe, his failure and return, and analysing other Gambians’ decisions about undocumented migration, I analyse the role of destiny and ‘luck’ in these processes. As much as the idea of destiny plays an important role in dealing with past failures, I argue in this paper that it also features in the background to decision-making in the present and about the future. Whereas in undocumented migration the success and even survival of the migrant is radically uncertain, a matter of chance, the idea of destiny allows people to engage with uncertainty in a specific way. It allows people to dismiss chance by viewing it as an individual quality, part of everyone’s unique destiny, as the Gambian concept of ‘luck’ illustrates. By sustaining hope and a sense of possibility, destiny also allows people to reframe uncertainty as a condition of potentiality
Istoty nie-ludzkie jako infrastruktury. Przypadek Anodonta cygnea
The article examines the role of the freshwater mussel Anodonta cygnea in drinking water biomonitoring systems, using the case of Poznań’s water infrastructure to conceptualize these organisms as infrastructural beings. It contributes to the fields of multispecies ethnography and infrastructural ecologies, engaging with the status of non-human organisms within technological systems and water resource management. As bioindicator species, Anodonta cygnea play a crucial role in water infrastructure; however, their function is reduced to the provision of ecosystem services in ways that are subordinated to human categories of utility. Their agency remains elusive, as it is contingent upon human interpretations of their behaviors and responses to environmental changes. The analysis highlights the biopolitical implications of the infrastructuralization of non-human organisms and the incorporation of their labor into the capitalist logic of extraction. At the same time, the text problematizes the possibility of capturing non-human perspectives in social research, advocating for a relational approach to water infrastructure. Drawing on infrastructural ontology, the article proposes an understanding of technological processes as entangled with biological life, thereby reconfiguring the boundaries between technology and nature.
I present the history and experiences of Polish-Ukrainian research conducted by employees of the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology of the University of Warsaw in Ukraine and Ukrainian minorities in Poland in the years 1996-2016 from the perspective of a researcher and research organizer. I recall the cooperation with Ukrainian researchers and institutions, the problems it addressed, the main topics of grant projects, as well as a related educational project: an Ethnographic Laboratory, which enabled the involvement of many student groups in the research and the establishment of close, sometimes lasting contacts between Polish and Ukrainian students. I present my interpretation of the ethnographic method rooted in phenomenology. I show changes in research issues, embedded in research experiences and the changing political and cultural situation. I refer to my anticipatory experiences regarding the fate of the Ukrainian minority in the period of the Polish People's Republic. I provide examples of inspiration from historical and anthropological literature, as well as my own experiences and discoveries regarding identity on borderlands and in diasporas, perceived primarily from the perspective of religious culture.
Tracing Tangible Borderscapes Between the First and the Second Nile Cataracts Ceramics in the Ninth–Tenth Centuries CE
This paper examines perspectives on ceramic production between the First and Second Nile Cataracts during the ninth and tenth centuries CE, by analysing how pottery reflects socio-cultural interactions across political frontiers. By focusing on ledged vases produced in Aswān and Faras, the study investigates differences in stylistic choices as adaptations shaped by interactions and experiences of potters working in the Egyptian-Nubian borderland. The theoretical framework draws on the concept of borderscapes, which emphasises complexity and fluidity of border landscapes as dynamic cultural zones. This paper examines perspectives on ceramic production between the First and Second Nile Cataracts during the ninth and tenth centuries CE, by analysing how pottery reflects socio-cultural interactions across political frontiers. The neuroinflammation origin of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) – the literature review
Introduction and state of the knowledge: The origin of neuroinflammation in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) remains unknown. The presence of immunological dysregulation in ASD is observed as abnormalities in lymphocytes subpopulations and alterations in pro-inflammatory cytokines' levels. Also kynurenine and histaminergic pathways are dysregulated, causing additional changes in the brain's structure and physiology. Inflammatory status include intestines as well the gut microbiota present characteristic features in ASD. Materials and methods: The literature search was done using PubMed database up, focusing on the newest knowledge concerning ASD.
Aim: The aim of this review is to summarise the newest knowledge about molecular basis of neuroinflammation in ASD, to distinguish target molecules, that can predict autism's onset and to find dietary solutions, that can alleviate autistic behavioral features by tackling histaminergic and tryptophan pathways. Conclusion: Concerning chronic inflammatory state's presence in ASD, exact target molecules' levels can be checked in order to proove changes in immune system. To allieviate symptoms such as social cognition, meditherian diet, probiotics, magnesium, B vitamins and physical excercises are highly recommended
The Assessment of the impact of sanatorium treatment on patients with hip joint endoprosthesis
Background: As the years go by, hip replacement procedures, also known as hip endoprosthesis, are becoming more common. As life expectancy increases, it can be assumed that this number will continue to rise, with some sources reporting that it will increase as much as sevenfold by 2030.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of a 21-day sanatorium treatment on physical fitness and quality of life after hip replacement surgery.
Methodology: selected measurements and tests were performed on the first and last day of the sanatorium stay. A questionnaire on subjective assessment of quality of life was completed on the first day of stay and one month after the end of the sanatorium by telephone. The tools used were, measurement of range of motion with goniometer, strength with Lovett scale, TUG, NRS and SF-36
Conclusions: The range of motion of flexion and abduction in the hip joint subjected to endoprosthesis increased statistically significantly. The time required to walk a distance of 6 meters in the “Stand Up and Walk” test as well as pain complaints on the NRS scale decreased significantly statistically. There was a favorable statistically significant change in all aspects examined by the SF-36 questionnaire
