Advancements in Alzheimer's Disease Therapy: The Role of Anti-Amyloid Monoclonal Antibodies - A Literature Review

Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive cognitive decline and neuronal damage. Anti-amyloid monoclonal antibodies such as aducanumab, lecanemab, and donanemab, represent the first disease-modifying therapies for Alzheimer’s disease, specifically targeting amyloid-β plaques, a hallmark of the disease. This review examines the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease, the mechanism of action of these anti-amyloid therapies, and their potential benefits and associated risks, particularly amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA). While these therapies have demonstrated statistically significant efficacy in reducing amyloid plaques and decelerating cognitive decline, further research is required to confirm their long-term clinical benefits and establish a precise safety profile. Nonetheless, the approval of these monoclonal antibodies constitutes a significant advancement and potentially heralds the beginning of a new era in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease

    Microecology of pyodermia pathogens

Gram-positive cocci are usually considered the leading pathogens of pyoderma. However, understanding intermicrobial interactions, as well as identifying the leading pathogens and their associates, require a more detailed study of microbial contamination of the skin other than a simple statement of the taxonomic composition of the microbial community of the biofilm. The aim of this study is to determine the microecological indicators of pyoderma pathogens. Material and methods. 97 patients with pyoderma were examined, material was taken during dressing and bacteriological examination was carried out no later than 2 hours later. A number of microecological indices were calculated (constancy index, Margalef species richness index, Whittaker species diversity index, Simpson and Berger-Parker species dominance indices, statistical processing – by the method of variation statistics. Results. In total, 197 strains of conditionally pathogenic Gram-positive (89.85%) and Gram-negative (20-10.15%) bacteria were isolated and identified in the cohort of patients. Coagulase-positive S. aureus was the main one in the microbial group according to the constancy index, frequency of occurrence, Margalef species richness index, Simpson species diversity index and Berger-Parker species dominance. In 94 (96.91%) patients, associations consisting of two different taxa were detected, and in 3 (3.09%) associations consisting of 3 conditionally pathogenic taxa. Conclusions. Pyodermas are polyetiological diseases caused by both Gram-positive and Gram-negative, facultative anaerobic and aerobic bacteria with a significant predominance of Gram-positive cocci, which are in association with other conditionally pathogenic microorganisms. According to the taxonomic composition and microecological indicators, the leading pathogens of pyodermas are S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, S. pyogenes and P. vulgaris, E. coli, E. coli Hly+ and E. Aerogenes

A Review and Breakthrough of the Development of Sports Tourism in Xinjiang under the Belt and Road Initiative

With the growing pursuit of a healthy lifestyle, sports tourism has become an integral part of people's lives. However, sports tourism in China currently accounts for only 5% of the tourism market, while in developed countries, the proportion reaches 25%. This indicates that there is still significant room for growth in China’s sports tourism market. The Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China has had a significant impact on politics, economics, culture, tourism, and other areas. As the gateway to Belt and Road construction, Xinjiang will experience a tremendous boost in its sports tourism industry due to this initiative. This paper employs methods such as literature review, statistical analysis, and SWOT analysis to examine the development of sports tourism in Xinjiang over the past decade under the Belt and Road Initiative, exploring new driving forces for the high-quality development of Xinjiang's sports tourism industry. Based on this, it proposes approaches such as driving new productive forces, multi-dimensional empowerment, adhering to the right principles while innovating, improving quality and efficiency, and promoting integrated development, in order to break through the development bottleneck of sports tourism in Xinjiang

Metabolic disorders: a prospective target in the prostate cancer treatment complex

Prostate cancer (PC) is currently one of the most socially significant world oncological diseases. In many regions PC ranks first in the structure of oncological diseases and leading position in elderly men mortality structure. Taking into account the great importance of metabolic disorders in the carcinogenesis and the aggressive course of PC, the diseases with metabolic component (cardio-vascular, obesity, diabetes mellitus) are activiely studied. Their common feature is metabolic dyslipidemia. While the feasibility and effectiveness of metabolic disorders correction in PC is the object of close attention of many researchers the results of studies are very contradictory - from a negative impact or complete absence of any effect to a significant improvement in survival rates. Correction of metabolic disorders is currently achieved by metabolic drugs, in particular, statins and metformin. Some studies have established a positive effect of this therapy on the course of PC. This indicates its prospects as an additional method in the complex therapy of PC

Monitoring Activities and Non Performing Loans of Financial Institutions in Nigeria

    No full text
Recent complexities in the Nigerian financial sector underscore the critical need for effective monitoring activities to mitigate the risks associated with Non-Performing Loans (NPLs). This study investigates how monitoring activities, particularly focusing on board independence and audit quality, affect NPLs in Nigerian financial institutions. Data were obtained from the annual reports of selected financial institutions covering the period from 2010 to 2022. The population includes all eleven categories of financial institutions in Nigeria as of December 31, 2022. However, a purposive sampling approach was employed, focusing on four specific categories, totaling 38 financial institutions. The feasible generalized least squares regression method was used for data analysis to ensure a robust and reliable result. The findings reveal that while board independence negatively impacts NPLs, the effect is not statistically significant. Conversely, audit quality shows a negative and significant effect on NPLs. The findings suggest that both board independence and audit quality have the potential to mitigate the incidence of non-performing loans in Nigerian financial institutions. However, the significance of their effects varies. Recommendations include enhancing board members training and development, mandating high-quality audits, and strengthening regulatory oversight to improve monitoring capabilities

„Dać radę swojej osobie”. Zeszyty Janiny Łempickiej-Kozarzewskiej w świetle badań nad egodokumentem

    No full text
The article presents the figure of Janina Łempicka-Kozarzewska, who was the mother of Jerzy Kozarzewski – a poet and soldier, an activist of the independence underground. The author presents the content of unpublished letters written by her to son in the years 1947–1952, when he was serving a ten-year sentence. The study indicates the key context in which the letters were created and reconstructs the issues raised in them. The conclusions contained in the article from reading the manuscripts of Janina Łempicka, an educated intellectual, related to Cyprian Norwid (she was the daughter of Ksawery Norwid – brother of the author of Vade-mecum) place the collection of this correspondence, which was never sent to the addressee, in the trend of research on personal document literature. At the same time, they allow us to define new perspectives on this non-obvious genre form and point to the diary category (in Philippe Lejeune’s approach) which is useful for research in relation to the correspondence preserved in notebooks.Artykuł przybliża postać Janiny Łempickiej-Kozarzewskiej, która była matką Jerzego Kozarzewskiego – poety i żołnierza, działacza podziemia niepodległościowego. Autorka prezentuje zawartość niepublikowanych listów pisanych do syna w latach 1947–1952, gdy ten odbywał karę dziesięciu lat pozbawienia wolności.

The University of Jena was the place where Kant’s philosophy began as a new intellectual movement, and from there spread throughout Germany. Goethe was in charge of state supervision of the university on behalf of his Weimar Duke Carl August and was one of the first to recognize the importance of Kant and to try to assimilate the results of his thinking. This applied above all to Goethe’s Natural Sciences and his teachings on the Metamorphosis of Plants. In his natural philosophy, the concept of primal polarity (Urpolarität) plays a key role, which Goethe finds again as the force of attraction and repulsion as conditions of material existence in Kant’s work Metaphysical Foundations of Natural Science. It is interesting that Goethe’s first reading of the Critique of Pure Reason and the Critique of Judgment took place without the influence of Schiller, who was an expert of Kant’s philosophy. In conclusion, it should be emphasized that Goethe did not feel influenced by his studies of Kant, which at times outweighed his poetic work; he rather wanted it to confirm his scientific way of thinking. The University of Jena was the place where Kant’s philosophy began as a new intellectual movement, and from there spread throughout Germany.
