What SMEs Can Learn from Hidden Champions: An Empirical Analysis of the Importance of Strategic Success Factors for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises

The strategic implementation of success factors has gained growing attention among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Given the above-average performance of so-called Hidden Champions (HCs), the question arises to what extent SMEs recognize and adopt the key success factors identified by Hermann Simon for HCs. This empirical study examines the perceived importance of these success factors within the SME sector and explores whether significant differences exist between more and less successful companies. Furthermore, an exploratory multivariate data analysis revealed two distinct clusters within the dataset – “International Innovators” and “National Traditionalists” – which exhibit clear differences in how they assess the relevance of these success factors

In its decision on assisted dying, the Federal Constitutional Court assumes a broad concept of autonomy. Dignity is understood as the subject’s freedom to decide for themselves. An objective content of human dignity that develops dignity protection against the subject itself is not compatible with the concept of freedom. The prerequisite for a self-determined decision is free responsibility, which the BVerfG denies in the case of psychiatric illnesses and in the case of dangers to autonomy that are based on current and foreseeable real life circumstances. On the basis of a knowledge-based overall assessment and contextualization, the court comes to the conclusion that a freely responsible suicide decision must have been made “on the basis of a reality-based assessment of the pro’s and contra’s aligned with one’s own self-image”; in doing so, it is guided by the high requirements for informed consent in medical law. The Federal Constitutional Court affirms that the state has a duty to prevent suicide. It does not recognize a state obligation to advise those who wish to die

A fair attribution of criminal responsibility for the consequences of an (alleged) act of negligence requires a detailed reconstruction of the crime situation. Only then can it be assessed whether the outcome that violated the legal interest was ultimately the result of a forgivable momentary lapse (e. g. forgetting) or is attributable to a planning or execution error (‘breach of duty of care’). Cases from the context of medical care for patients are a multifaceted illustration of this
