Estimates of the Bergman kernel on a hyperbolic
Riemann surface of finite volume-II (∗)

ABSTRACT. — In this article, we derive off-diagonal estimates of the Bergman ker-
nel associated to the tensor-powers of the cotangent bundle defined on a hyperbolic
Riemann surface of finite volume, when the distance between the points is less than
injectivity radius. We then use these estimates to derive estimates of the Bergman
kernel along the diagonal.
RÉSUMÉ. — Dans cet article, nous dérivons des estimations non-diagonales du
noyau de Bergman associé aux puissances tensorielles du faisceau cotangent défini
sur une surface de Riemann hyperbolique de volume fini, lorsque la distance entre
les points est inférieure au rayon d’injectivité. Nous utilisons ensuite ces estimations
pour dériver des estimations du noyau de Bergman le long de la diagonale.
1. Introduction
In [1], using elementary methods from complex analysis, we derive off-
diagonal estimates of the Bergman kernel associated to tensor-powers of the
cotangent bundle defined on a hyperbolic Riemann surface of finite volume,
when the distance between the points is greater than injectivity radius, in
both the compact and noncompact setting. In this article, refining the ar-
guments from [1], we derive off-diagonal estimates of the Bergman kernel,

when the distance between the points is less than injectivity radius. This
article complements the results from [1].
Several mathematicians including the likes of Tian, Zelditch, Catlin, Ma,
Marinsecu et al. have derived estimates of Bergman kernels associated to
high tensor-powers of line bundles defined over complex manifolds. We refer
the reader to the introduction in [1], for an elaborate discussion on similar
results from literature. However, we mention the results from [2], [3], and [1],
which have led to the culmination of this article.
Let X be a noncompact Riemann surface, whose natural metric has sin-
gularities of Poincaré type at a finite set. Let L be a holomorphic line bundle
whose curvature form is a scalar multiple of the hyperbolic metric outside a
compact subset of X. In [2], Auvray, Ma, and Marinescu have derived opti-
mal estimates of Cn-norms of the Bergman kernel associated to tensor-powers
of L, along the diagonal.
Furthermore, in [3], Auvray, Ma, and Marinescu have derived optimal
estimates of Cn-norms of the Bergman kernel associated to tensor-powers
of L, both along the diagonal, and away from the diagonal. The estimates
derived in [2] and [3] also remain stable in covers of Riemann surfaces.
We now state the main results from [1]. Let X be a hyperbolic Riemann
surface of finite volume, and let be the cotangent bundle of X, and let

For δ  0, the above estimate is stronger than the estimate derived in [6],
which was derived in a more general context. We refer the reader to Re-
mark 3.1 in [1], for further discussion on the above estimate.
We then extend the above estimate to the noncompact setting, and show
that the estimates remain stable in covers of Riemann surfaces.

Estimate (3.18) has already been proved in [4] and [3]. In [4], the estimate
is shown to be optimal up to an additive term in the exponent of the form –ε,
while the estimate from [3], gives the precise coefficient of the term O(k3/2),
and is sharp by killing the –ε from below, from [4].
Remark 3.3. — From arguments similar to the ones employed in Re-
mark 3.3 in [1], it is easy to show that estimates (3.12), (3.13), (3.14),
and (3.18) remain stable in covers of Riemann surfaces.

RÉSUMÉ. — Nous montrons qu’il existe une permutation f des entiers positifs
telle que pour tout n > 2, ppcm(f(n), f(n + 1)) 6 cn(log n)2, où c est une constante
positive. Cela améliore des résultats d’Erdős, Freud et Hegyvári (1983), et de Chen
et Ji (2011).
ABSTRACT. — We show that there exists a permutation f of the positive integers
such that for all n > 2, lcm(f(n), f(n + 1)) 6 cn(log n)2, where c is a positive
constant. It improves previous results of Erdős, Freud and Hegyvári (1983), and of
Chen and Ji (2011).
1. Introduction
Appelons chaîne-permutation du graphe divisoriel de N∗ (ou plus simple-
ment chaîne-permutation) toute application bijective f : N∗ → N∗ telle que
f(n) est un diviseur ou un multiple de f(n + 1) pour tout entier n > 1. Il
est facile de construire des chaînes-permutations. Voici les premières valeurs
de l’une d’entre elles :
1− 2− (2× 3)− 3− (3× 4)− 4− (4× 5)− 5− (5× 7)− 7− (7× 8)− 8 · · ·
On a ici lim supn→+∞ f(n)/n2 = 1/4. Le résultat principal de cet article,
énoncé ci-dessous, montre que la convergence vers l’infini de f(n) peut être
beaucoup plus lente.
Théorème 1.1. — Il existe une constante c1 et une chaîne-permutation
f telles que pour tout n > 2, on a

Intéressons-nous maintenant à des permutations de N∗ qui ne sont pas
nécessairement des chaînes-permutations. Notons [a, b] le plus petit commun
multiple des entiers a et b. En 1981, Erdős, Freud et Hegyvári ont montré
qu’il existe une constante c2 et une permutation f de N∗ telles que pour tout

Signalons que Tenenbaum [6] conjecture que l’on peut remplacer l’ex-
pression à droite du signe 6 dans cette dernière formule par n(log n)1+o(1).

Pour établir le théorème, on utilise une construction de chaîne finie due
à Tenenbaum (voir [6, paragraphe 4]) et un résultat relatif aux entiers à
diviseurs denses ([3, théorème 1]) (pour la définition de ces termes, voir
le paragraphe suivant). Même si cela ne nous est pas utile ici, signalons
au passage que le récent travail de Weingartner [7] fournit un équivalent
asymptotique de la fonction de comptage des entiers à diviseurs y-denses,
uniforme en y.
2. Notations
Appelons chaîne toute application injective f : N∗ → N∗ telle que f(n)
est un diviseur ou un multiple de f(n + 1) pour tout entier n > 1. Appelons
aussi chaîne finie de longueur l tout l-uplet C = a1, a2, . . . , al d’entiers positifs
deux à deux distincts et tels que ai est un diviseur ou un multiple de ai+1
pour tout entier i de l’intervalle [1, l − 1]. On notera longueur(C) := l.

Au paragraphe 4 de [6], Tenenbaum construit une famille de chaînes finies

pour lequel on a les quatre propriétés suivantes.

• Pour tout p > 3, Γ(2p2, p) = 1− p− · · · − 2.
• Pour tout p, Γ(2p2, p) est constituée d’entiers m sans facteur carré

Cette dernière propriété combinée avec le théorème 1 de [3] entraîne l’exis-
