No full textMany forms of entertainment that we enjoy here in Indonesia such as movies. books, music, and even video games, often come from abroad, more specifically the U.S. Although movies and books are often officially translated and localized, this is not the case for video games. With the increasingly growing market of video games and number of gamers in Indonesia, very few games have started to be “localized” and translated into Indonesian. One such game is the Playstation 2 game Bully.\ud

All in all, the translation of the game Bully is a decent attempt to localize western video games. Seeing as the translation was not done by professional translators, the overall translation of the game was fairly good, with some problems here and there. It fulfilled its communicative purpose in the sense that the translation was comprehensible enough to play the game and understand the main story. The biggest problem lies in the translation of the dialogues that basically tells the whole story of the game. Some of the dialogues were poorly translated, especially those containing sensitive cultural materials that were difficult to translate. Even though the main story can be fairly understood in general, some of the dialogues were translated rather badly, making the flow from one utterance to the next not very smooth and disjointed at times.\u
EDWARD SAPIR’s PERSPECTIVE ON LANGUAGE, CULTURE, AND COGNITION
No full textLanguage is a sign system which is used by society to cooperate, interact, and identify. Culture, Society, and Cognition is built based on human perception in their world. It is reflected through linguistics element used by language users for communication purposes. The idea about inter-relation of language and those three elements (Culture, Society, and Cognition) is conducted by an anthropologist and linguist, Edward Sapir. Sapir’s perspective on culture is highly influenced by some western linguist and philosopher (like Boas, Morris, and Saussure). Sapir believes that language is cultural product. The linguistic constructions in particular language are built from influence mechanisms. Each language related to immeasurable variety of experiences and a limited array of formal categories (both lexical and grammatical). These categories coherently related to the interpretation of experience in the world. Whorf believes that the system of categories in each language provides an unusual system to certain language. Together with Whorf, Sapir conducted a hypothesis. The hypothesis conducted is an idea of differentiating the way of language is encoded cognition category and culture. Their existence in society influences the way of thinking. It influences human thought and action. Language determines thought and linguistics category determine cognitive category. Hypothesis which was conducted by them is named Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis

No full textThis research attempted to analyze the leverage between EVA, ROA, ROE, EPS with stock return of the 12 sample companies. The 12 sample companies are the companies that included in LQ-45 at the Indonesia Stock Exchange within period of 2005 to 2007. First, this research computes the score of EVA, ROA, ROE, EPS from each of the companies. To analyze the leverage using linear regression method with stock return as a dependent variable and EVA, ROA, ROE, EPS each as a independent variable. And then comparing the results from the linear regression which method has the greater number of R Square. Also using regression method with stock return as a dependent variable and EVA, ROA, ROE, EPS together as independent variable, then analyzing the result from the regression such as multi collinierity, autocorellation, heteroscedasticity, and normality

No full textThe following study is intended to find out which is the highest use metacognitive reading strategies among the academic learners majored in English Language and Culture, Bunda Mulia University Jakarta. First of all metacognition discusses about the process of an individual in planning and managing oneself in order to achieve his or her goal. In the other words, metacognitive strategies are steps that learners take for improving their language performances. Based on SORS (Survey of Reading Strategies) questionnaire, there are four categories being scored in the reading metacogntive strategies, those are global reading strategies, problem-solving strategies,, and support reading strategies. The result showed that academic learners mostly apply the problem-solving strategies, followed by global reading strategies, and support reading strategies

Pendeteksian Fraud dengan Hukum Benford
No full textThe objectives of this research is to find the answers of whether Benford’s Law can be effectively used as one of the measurement of the audit planning instrument for determining whether the customs value of the sample company is acceptable or not. To answers this question the first thing to do is to find out the custom value of the sample company. To assess whether a particular custom value is acceptable or not and then a digital analysis vehicle called Benford’s Law as well as number of statistical test is used. Assessment is done to detect fraudulent data as part of risk management in audit planning in order to choose company. The result of the research shows that Benford’s law can neither be used effectively to assess whether customs of the sample company is acceptable or not, nor can it be used effectively as one of the audit planning instrument for these company. However this result applies only to sample tested and can not be generalize
