Study of Ground Water Quality Analysis in Industrial Zone of Visakhapatnam
The Physicochemical characteristics of the groundwater in Visakhapatnam city and its surrounding area are analysed. There is a wide variation in the quality of water from point, which is reflected by the related parameters. Hydrogeochemical studies were carried out in industrial area to assess the groundwater quality groundwater samples from 10 bore wells. Industries consume large quantities to water for their process and then discharge their effluents on to the adjoining areas without pretreatment. This leads to the deterioration of groundwater quality significantly besides impoverishing the environment
Diatom Assemblage in the Lake of Gaberoun, Southern Libya
The lake of Gaberoun in the southern district of Libya was studied to assess the diatom community composition in the littoral zone. Planktic and attached diatoms were listed and information on the constituent species made known (images are shown). Some criteria of the water characteristics are also given such as the pH, which is an average of 8.3, electrical conductivity which accounted for 1.4 µSim/cm1- and total dissolved salts (TDS) of 189.0mg/L1-
Total Serum Cholesterol Level in Cases of Carcinoma Breast – A Correlative Study
Aims and Objective: Correlation between serum cholesterol level and risk of breast cancer.
Material and Methods: Fifty histologically diagnosed breast cancer patients were included in the study. Patients were grouped according to the size, histological type of the tumor and lymph node involvement. Patient’s total serum cholesterol levels were measured a week prior to the operation and on the 14th day postoperatively. Fifty age-matched non-cancer females were treated as a control.
Observations: The pre and postoperative mean total serum cholesterol (MTSC) was found to be 272.3 ± 43.4mg/dl and 210.54 ± 31.5mg/dl respectively. An MTSC level in fifty control cases was found to be 183.42 ± 34.4mg/dl. Patients with tumor size less than 5cms showed preoperative mean serum cholesterol levels of 261.6 ± 36.5mg/dl and a postoperative value of 201.9 ± 16.9mg/dl while those with tumor size more than 10cms showed a mean serum cholesterol level of 282.36 ± 64.8mg/dl preoperatively and 211.82 ± 53.15mg/dl postoperatively. Thirty patients with scirrhous type of carcinoma had a preoperative mean serum cholesterol level as 237.36mg/dL, and twelve patients with a colloid type of carcinoma showed a preoperative level of 294.9 ± 18.4mg/dL whereas eight patients with medullary type of carcinoma showed the highest preoperative level of 324.3 ± 19.8mg/dL, whereas the corresponding postoperative values were 202.9 ± 30.0mg, 216.8 ± 27.8mg and 229.4 ± 29.8mg respectively.
Conclusions: The present study helps us to conclude that dietary habits affect the association of cholesterol in breast cancer and size, histology with tumor metastasis effects such relationship
First Observations on the Mushroom in Mountain Area of Iraqi Kurdistan Region
Based on the collections made for mushroom between 1996-2010 in mountain areas in Sulaimani and Erbil Governorate especially in Soran, Joman, Sedakan districts Qandil and Zalm areas upto more than 3000 m.a.s.l. A total of 34 species in 23 genera, 17 families and 7 orders belong to woody and fleshy species were identified at the first time in Iraq
Influence of Glomus Species and Soil Phosphorous on Verticillium Wilt in Bt Cotton
Amendment of single superphosphate to the soil was done at 20mg /kg and 300mg /kg. After that soil was treated with different treatments like a) Verticillium dahliae, b) Glomus species, c) both Verticillium and Glomus species d) None of Glomus species and Verticillium. The Verticillium wilt was more severe in plants infected with Glomus species than non-mycorrhizal plants fertigated at 20mg P / kg of soil. However, in plants fertigated with 300mg P / kg of soil, Verticillium wilt was equally severe in mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal plants. More propagules of V. dahliae were found in the plants fertigated with 20mg P / kg of soil, in petioles of mycorrhizal plants than that of non-mycorrhizal plants.
The plants fertigated with 300mg P / kg of soil reported maximum number of propagules of V. dahliae were not significantly different in mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal plants. It was found that infection of V. dahliae in Bt cotton by Glomus species was not affected in plants fertigated with 20mg P / kg of soil. The infection was inhibited by phosphorous and further by V. dahliae in plants fertigated with 300mg P / kg of soil. The concentrations of phosphorous in the leaves of the treated plants were found similar to the treated mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal plants fertigated with 20mg P / kg of soil. The plants infected with V. dahliae alone were found lower than the plants infected with both V. dahliae and Glomus species
Induction of Carbendazim Resistance in Aspergillus niger through Mutagens
The sample of Ziziphus fruits infected with different pathogens was collected from the market at different places in Maharashtra. Aspergillus niger was found to be dominant all maximum fruits. Development of Carbendazim resistance in Aspergillus niger due to spontaneous mutation. Ultraviolet rays and chemical mutagens such as like bromyl uracil (BU), ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) and UV rays, same isolates were highly resistance, some were moderately resistance while few were resistance, highly resistance mutant were more pathogenic. Most sensitive isolates of Aspergillus niger A-9 was selected for this study. The spores of this isolate were treated with UV rays, bromyl uracil & ethyl methanesulfonate, it was seen that EMS treatment gave higher mutants followed by UV, Bu and spontaneous treatment in decreasing manner
Adsorption of Dyes from Aqueous Solution Using Orange Peels: Kinetics and Equilibrium
The adsorption of dyes from aqueous solution has been investigated on Orange Peels (OP). The influence of pH, contact time, adsorbent dosage, dye concentration, agitation speed, temperature and particle size of biosorbent on the biosorption has been investigated. The biosorptive capacities of the biosorbents were dependent on the pH of the dye solution, with pH 2 and 4 being optimal. From the analysis of isotherm data obtained from the fittings of the Freundlich model fits better than the Langmuir model in case of acid blue MTR dye and in case of red 3BLS disperse dye Langmuir model fits better than Freundlich model. The adsorption capacities were found to be 19.48, 36.67, 16.69mg/g for FOP, IOP, DOP in case of Acid Blue MTR Dye and similarly 23.35, 29.36, 27.30mg/g respectively in the case of Red 3BLS Disperse Dye
Algal Flora on some springs within Sherwan Mazn Subdistrict, Erbil–Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Iraq
This paper describes the first study of algal assemblages at 6 spring sites within Sherwan Mazn subdistrict between October 2011 to March 2012, with particular reference to abundance, distribution and periodicity were investigated in the samples collected. A total of 42 species was identified in 3 divisions, among them, 24 taxa was belonged of Bacillariophyta, 13 taxa was Chlorophyta and 5 taxa was Cyanophyta. The seasonality of algal flora was decreased at all springs in December and January. The dominant species among non-diatoms were, Oscillatoria, Lyngbya, Tribonema, Vaucheria and Spirogyra whereas among the diatoms were Navicula, Syndra, Gomphonema, and Nitzschia
Effect of Passage on the Development of Carbendazim Resistance
Effect of passage in the development of carbendazim resistance in the sensitive isolate indicated that culturing of the isolate continuously for 4 successive passages increased resistance. But culturing of the isolate alternately with dithane Z-78 and mancozeb the resistance was decreased. Moreover, use of carbendazim in mixture with these fungicides reduced the resistance. The spray programme of carbendazim may influence on the development of resistance in pathogens. Therefore, the effect of passage on agar medium containing carbendazim alone, alternately or in mixture with other fungicides like benomyl, dithane Z-78 and mancozeb was evaluated
Study the Response of Cucumber Plant to Different Magnetic Fields
Magnetic fields (MF) are widely distributed in the environment and their effects are increasing due to various instruments that are used in industry and medicine. In the present experiment, the growth and productivity of cucumber plants of seeds in which affected by different magnetic fields was investigated. The soaked seed samples of cucumber were exposed to a 20μT AC magnetic field for 30 minutes. Similar seed samples also were treated with DC magnetic fields of 5μT for 30 min. To compare the effect of different magnetic fields, control samples with three replications were placed in gape out of magnetic field for 30 min. Results of study showed that the germination of seeds was significantly influenced by different magnetic fields depending on the days after treatment application. The first germinated seeds were observed two days after beginning of test in DC magnetic field (0.7 seed) treatment. In the last days of experiments (day ninth), no difference was observed among treatments. The growth behavior of seedling of cucumber affected by different magnetic field in comparison with control plants in greenhouse showed that seeds in which treated with AC magnetic field have better growth rate. The results of evaluation of plants in the field showed that parameters like fruit length (FL), the diameter of fruit (FMD), Fruit weight (FW), number of side stem (NSS), flower number (NF) and the number of flower per main stem were not significantly different at different times of experiment. Contrary to that, parameters such as the number of fruits per plant (NF) and the length of main stem (LMS) were significantly increased by time. Based on the obtained results of the germination, greenhouse and field trials it can be concluded that direct magnetic field stimulates seed germination and increases the growth rate and vigor of seedling especially at the beginning of germination. Generally, it can be indicated that the initial effect of magnetic field on the germination rate and the growth of seedling is very positive since it induces an improved capacity for nutrient and water uptake, providing greater physical support to the developing shoot
