    Of People, Land and Bonds

    No full text
Via three exemplary chapters the authors present the results of the DFG-funded research project entitled ‚Man Rent or Land Rent? Significance and function of land transfer for the practice of lordship of kings, lay lords and ecclesiastics in north-east Scotland in the later Middle Ages‘. This volume tried to offer a modified perspective on the organisation of the political society in late Medieval Scotland, formed through the bottom-up view of regional lordship and its respective sources. Scottish history should not only be told from the perspective of crown, magnates and the sources produced by and for them but bottom-up: There are large enough quantities of mostly underused sources stemming from clerical institutions, nobility and the burghs, which can further enhance our knowledge of the political structure and the socio-economic composition of the kingdom

    Taxation in the Digital Era

    No full text
This open access edited volume discusses the impact of digitalization on taxation, using the Swedish welfare state model as a lens through which to examine the disruptive effect of new technologies on traditional tax models. Taking a multidisciplinary approach, it integrates perspectives from economics, law, audit, and public policy to shed light on contemporary challenges in taxation. With Sweden as a central case study, the chapters in this book address broader concerns surrounding the impact of digital transformation on how states calculate and enforce tax, as well as the role of international coordination in reforming tax policy. The book covers many important topics such as financing public welfare, international attempts to combat issues concerning multinationals and consumption taxation, legitimacy and democratic implications, as well as how digitalization impacts firms’ and tax authorities’ tax administration. The effects of AI, automation and remote work are all considered, as well as how greater labor mobility is decreasing the emphasis on a geographical nexus for taxability and creating a need for urgent tax reform. Providing a diverse set of theoretical and policy considerations, this book will be essential reading for scholars, students and policymakers working in the spheres of tax law, the welfare state and public economics

Corporate Social Responsibility in Football Associations

    No full text
This Open Access book examines how football’s governing bodies translate their public CSR commitments into everyday practice. Focusing on UEFA, the German Football Association (DFB) and a representative regional federation, it traces CSR from continental headquarters to local grassroots, revealing where lofty pledges of sustainability, diversity and community engagement prosper—and where they falter. Drawing on fourteen semi-structured interviews with senior officials and practitioners, the study exposes a persistent gap between externally promoted initiatives and the internal processes that should sustain them. It shows that CSR only achieves lasting impact when it is embedded in strategic planning, aligned with core football operations and subjected to rigorous monitoring. By presenting a grounded framework and practical guideline for associations at every tier, the author offers both scholars and decision-makers a roadmap for moving beyond performative gestures towards genuinely responsible governance in the world’s most influential sport

Innovative Social Practice and Community-Based Approach to the Ocean

    No full text
This book stands as a pioneering work, illustrating a community-based and people-centered approach to the ocean. It meticulously outlines methodologies, procedures, and evaluations of social practices initiated by universities and think tanks, rooted in the actualization of social responsibility. Its outcomes extend towards implications for blue impact finance, highlighting a dedicated commitment to fostering positive change in oceanic environments. Universities play a vital role in bridging research and education to create innovative solutions for communities as partnerships. Japan and Taiwan share similar concerns as maritime states and recognize that collaboration is the linchpin for strengthening relationships among faculty, students, and local residents, ensuring sustainability with a positive societal impact. To address this issue, the Ocean Policy Research Institute (OPRI) of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation collaborates with the Taiwan–Japan Alliance of Local Revitalization and Social Practice and the National Taiwan Ocean University. Through this joint effort, thematic case studies are selected to illuminate the methodology of impact assessment and evaluation for ocean-link initiatives within the framework of think tank–university social responsibility. This book contains four key parts: I. Methodology of Problem-solving Structure for Coastal Region; II. Challenges and Opportunities of Ocean-link Industries; III. Innovative Forms of Blue Impact; and IV. Evaluating Blue Impact from Social and Environmental Perspective. Successful experiences have been shown to rely on problem identification, assessment, and endeavor, driven by shared motivations and the establishment of trust among research institutes, universities, and communities.
