No full textThis book offers the first systematic account in English of the Spanish mass press coverage of ‘jihadist terrorist’ attacks in contemporary Spain. Drawing upon a critical analysis of the ‘Spanish Transition to Democracy’ (1975–82) and ‘War on Terror’ narratives, it examines the ideology underlying the metaphors used in the Spanish mainstream press coverage of the terrorist attacks in Madrid (2004) and Barcelona (2017). The book shows how these metaphors were systematically deployed for propagandistic purposes that sought to ‘manufacture the consent’ of the Spanish population while obstructing public deliberation apropos the attacks, strengthening Spanish ‘democracy’ by defining it in opposition to ‘jihadist terrorism.’ This book will be of interest to students of Critical Terrorism Studies, Spanish Politics, Media Studies, and Security Studies. Ecology of Avian Zoonotic Diseases
No full textThe book presents five chapters related to the ecology of avian diseases, the recently emerged branch of avian ecology, veterinary medicine, human medicine virology and parasitology. It is, therefore, a multidisciplinary book. It advances studies on the ecology of avian epizootic diseases. Two case studies are presented: one from Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the other from Tibet in China. Both studies focus on relationships between birds, humans, microbiota and environment. The avian influenza is the main object of this study. It is a viral disease mainly affecting waterbirds, but it has been transmitted to humans in recent years and has caused serious health problems. The book shows how the disease emerged from its original site in the lake in Tibet and how it spread worldwide. The study from Kinshasa focuses on the Malachite Kingfisher and a few other bird species. This is a good example of a holistic approach to the problems linked to avian diseases, the ecology of birds (site fidelity, timing of breeding, breeding success, diet), microbiota, parasites and human health. The study also turns attention to birds as good indicators of environmental quality. A separate chapter deals with these aspects of hematology, which are relevant to avian diseases. Special attention is paid to factors influencing fluctuations in hematocrit levels of birds in relation to their age, sex, season of the year, physiological indices (metabolism, energetics), breeding status, parasites, season of the year, and altitude of inhabited area. Blood elements such as erythrocytes, granulocytes (heterophils, granulocytes, eosinophils and basophils), and agranulocytes (monocytes, lymphocytes, thrombocytes) are compared between 14 selected bird species from different parts of the world. These parameters are essential for health monitoring (critical early warning markers of stress, disease, and malnourishment in bird populations). This book targets a broad audience of ecologists, ornithologists, students of zoonotic diseases, and researchers in veterinary and human medicine
The Menstrual Movement in the Media
No full textThis book investigates the impact of the mediation of menstruation and menstrual activism on young people’s knowledge, attitudes, behaviours, and interpersonal relationships. Since 2015, the menstrual movement has become increasingly visible on social media and in news media from across the globe. In Great Britain, the menstrual movement brings together a diverse group of activists who aim to reduce menstrual stigma and tackle menstrual inequities. By combining original interviews with 32 menstrual activists and focus groups with 77 young people (including women, men, and non-binary teenagers), this book offers an in-depth exploration of this movement and its impact. This book argues that menstrual stigma has decreased, awareness around related health and social issues has increased, and girls as well as other menstruating young people are feeling an increased sense of connection and solidarity with each other. Menstruation is shifting from a very private experience to one of collective concern. It is evident that social media, and, to some extent, news media, have played a key role in disseminating the discourses and aims of menstrual activists that have engendered some of these changes. Nevertheless, this book also examines how the media have negatively impacted young people and identifies further changes that are necessary for the achievement of gender equality. This book makes a significant contribution not only to the fields of health communication, feminism, social movement studies, and critical menstruation studies, but also provides evidence and recommendations that will be of interest to NGOs, advocacy groups, policymakers, schools, workplaces, and medical professionals. Combining reports on survey findings, country case studies, and crosscutting analyses, "Crime, Peoples and Places" offers empirical, theoretical, and policy-oriented contributions to the field of rural criminology, adopting the notion of a rural-urban continuum that captures the nuances of places of varied nature, spanning from remote and desolate spaces to accessible and connected environments of the urban fringe. The book examines the challenges of areas on the rural-urban continuum that are in constant transformation, given local and global influences, including the most recent developments in countries of the Global South. It identifies commonalities and disparities between different country cases, draws conclusions over global evidence, and highlights how partnerships, collaboration, and unity in crime prevention action can yield dividends for all people, regardless of age, gender, or whether they live in urban or rural areas

No full textTwo years after the first edition of this volume, which is intended as a support to educational activities and a tool for approaching the main topics of customs law, the adoption of new regulatory provisions at national level, as well as the rapid evolution of the procedures and scenarios that characterise the international trade in goods, have suggested the opportunity to partially revise and update some of the topics covered.
In this regard, of particular importance are the new National Complementary Provisions to the Union Customs Code, approved by Legislative Decree No. 141 of 26 September 2024, which have made significant changes to the national regulatory framework, particularly with regard to the penalty system.
Moreover, at the Union level, the Commission's proposal for the reform of the Customs Code prefigures a digital and integrated data management and risk analysis environment, within which the strategic role of reliable operators, to whom access to ever greater simplifications is reserved, is in any case strengthened.PublishedA due anni dalla prima edizione del volume, che si propone quale supporto alle attività didattiche e strumento di approccio alle principali tematiche del diritto doganale, l’intervenuta adozione di nuovi provvedimenti normativi a livello nazionale, nonché la rapida evoluzione delle procedure e degli scenari che caratterizzano gli scambi internazionali di merci, hanno suggerito l’opportunità di procedere a una parziale revisione e all’aggiornamento di alcuni degli argomenti trattati.
In tal senso, un particolare rilievo assumono le nuove Disposizioni nazionali complementari al codice doganale dell’Unione, approvate con il d. lgs. n. 141/24, le quali hanno apportato significative modifiche al quadro normativo nazionale, in particolare per quanto riguarda il sistema sanzionatorio.
Inoltre, a livello unionale, la proposta di riforma del codice doganale elaborata dalla Commissione prefigura un ambiente digitale e integrato di gestione dei dati e di analisi dei rischi, all’interno del quale viene comunque a rafforzarsi il ruolo strategico degli operatori affidabili, ai quali viene riservato l’accesso a sempre maggiori semplificazioni

No full textThis research seeks to examine the internal politics of the Chilean Single Workers' Union (CUT) based on the meanings and practices perceived by its protagonists. The bulk of the fieldwork was conducted during 2017, when the organization was undergoing a turbulent period, following the public exposure of various accusations of fraud during the August 2016 electoral process. Following this event, the CUT was under scrutiny by the press, Congress (with the appointment of an investigative commission in the Chamber of Deputies), and its own leaders. Internally, numerous meetings were held, a Congress was held, the statutes were amended, and elections were repeated. In this sense, the study is marked by a powerful situation whose repercussions will have to be evaluated in retrospect

Il sera devenu un des moyens de conjurer leur liberté.Alliance des hommes libres et égaux sous le regard de Dieu, il est progressivement encadré par les puissances politiques et ecclésiales, puis capté par l’État moderne à partir du xviie siècle.
